I think there should be five romanceable characters in the game. One straight girl, one straight male, one gay male, one gay female, and one bi female. :)

If such romance is possible, I hope normal gamers are not subjected to it like in first DA. Now I always kill Zevran because it's sickening that he makes passes at my male character when I am straight in real life.

So apparently gay gamers are not "normal" now. Maybe you didn't mean any offense in what you're trying to say, but seriously, you're not coming off well with the phrasing. (The fact that you actually needed to kill someone for hitting on you isn't helping much either.)

Back on the topic of Zevran, I found the romance satisfying. The first time I heard him speak though, I had a serious migraine. Didn't respond well to the idea that he basically humped anything with an orfice.

But beggers can't really be choosers eh. I just went with the romance anyway, and found out that his ending was actually pretty sweet.

Still, it seemed like him being bi was just tacked on to prevent backlash from the gay community. It was strange that the only guy he seemed to hit on was the PC, if my memory is not failing me. He pretty much screwed the whole of Ferelden and he only had one story with a guy.

It wasn't a great romance, it could have been better. But hey, it's satisfying to a degree.

I think the male character should have to both not flirt with the females and make a pass at him in order for the gay romance to be triggered.  And the gay male should be somewhat obviously gay in that he gossips with the girls in the party and stuff like that.  So a hetero Hawke would never accidentally romance him.

You're leaving out bisexual Hawkes.

Personally, as a gaymer, I hated Zevran because his gay romance seemed much weaker than his straight one. All of his serious past romances were females and he only mentions his male romances in passing or as a joke, which just made Zevran seemed catered more towards the straight gamers rather than the gaymers. However, I found Leliana's gay romance to be beautifully written and much more fulfilling than Zevran's. Of course, this is just my personal opinion since a lot of other gaymers actually did like Zevran.

Eh. Zevran is a female-leaning bisexual. He states as much when you ask. As such, it makes sense that he's been with more women than men. And he's only had one 'serious' romance before you, and by the end of your romance it's pretty clear that he loves the Warden way more than he ever loved Rinna.

By serious romances, I was talking moreso about romances that affected his character deeply such as the one with Rinna, like you stated,  and the one he had with a princess/whomever on his first assassination mission, which showed him the realities of life and whatnot.

It wasn't just you, I felt much the same. I mean a blond, long-haired pretty boy rogue elf with a south European accent and a leather/bootfetish? Bioware, seriously? *shudders*
Well, to give him some credit, if you got past a certain point in his relationship he was bearable. I guess I had more of an issue with his overall character than with the romance itself, if that makes any sense. But that’s all personal opinion, so make of that what you want.

Oh well, to get on topic again, all I hope for is a gay or bi LI who doesn’t scream “I'm full of gay clichés” the first second you see him.
Never heard of Straight Gay?

what?  Bi Hawkes can have a male partner or a female partner.  I omitted a bi male on purpose.

There's really no such thing as "Straight Gay". It's moreso that some gay males try to be effeminate/flamboyant to feel more in touch with the gay culture.

I don't like the idea. Simply have the dialog options for flirting to be obvious in general and people won't run into any problems.

I think the male character should have to actively turn down the same-sex option before he can flirt with the women, and if he did so in a rude or offensive way, they should refuse to be romanced by him because he's clearly just a jerk.

See how unreasonable that is?

I don't care about being fair and reasonable, just about being able to get a gay party member in the game without offending a large chunk of the player base.  That's a device which might allow that.  And I'm not set on the idea or anything; it's just a brainstorm more or less.

A better idea would be if the gay or bisexual love interest does not flirt with the player unless the player flirts first.

I guess the question would be: how do you insert gay characters into the game without offending the homophobic? Not that I care about them, but they have money and spend it, so obviously the marketing team does.

Frankly, if people are so homophobic that the mere possibility of a fake video game man making a pass at another fake video game man that they insist on all sorts of unreasonable hoops be jumped through first then, really, they kind of deserve to be offended.

yeah I guess the simple ideas are usually best

I also want a way for a gay character to be in the party so you can talk to them and know they're gay without trying to romance them.  Like so they're less of a "secret" and can actually be significant in party conversation.

Clearly the only solution is to do away with all subtlety and instead have the companions hand you pieces of paper reading: "Do you like me? Y/N?" If you pick Y, congrats! You may now have a fully fledged romance, complete with awkward sex scene that is guaranteed to make you feel faintly uncomfortable no matter your sexuality. If N, it is never mentioned again, while your potential love interest fades into the background as you exchange pieces of paper with your other companions. I feel it would bring a lot to the franchise.

Well I'm not concerned about homosexuality as much as romances in general. I want the game to be about building trust and cutting off heads, if you see what I'm saying.

Fair enough - just said that in the context of people supposedly being offended by being hit on by the same sex.
