Hello all! I wanted to run some new things I've been working on by you guys. I've been trying to expand upon the Outsider selection available, at least for my own needs. I do intend to share them with everybody. I'd love to get some feedback on what I've got done so far. It's starting to become a project in itself. I'm planning on a few celestial/good creatures too.

Bhaal Spawn, aka "The Slayer" (made from Devils_Hitman's Abishai, and skull by Six)

Custom Pit Fiend inspired by BG2 (Abishai again, w/Goat Beastman head)

Posted Image

Custom summonable demon "Eibon" (made with Magma's Cornugon and Bioware Gorgon)

Posted Image

Posted Image

"Powered-up" version

Posted Image

Babylonian She-Devil (made with Magma's Erinyes and (CODI?) Kocrachon)

Posted Image

I think I'm going to revert back to the Erinyes thighs on that one.

Any feedback, criticism or comments welcomed and appreciated. -Izk

PS: Next up, the horrors of HP Lovecraft!

Very nice. I think you're right about the thighs.

These creatures make good Daemons for WH40K, especially the first and second ones (which reminds me of a Keeper of Secrets), I'm certainly going to use them.
Great job again ^^

Look great! I'm working on a demon infested module where these would be nice!

@Heatmiser, demon infested is always good in my book, and that's a great name btw, or should I call you "Mr. Hundred And One"? Posted Image

Thanks everybody! I still have to do some tweaking on the Pit Fiend. I cloned his arms to make the smaller pair, and there's some clipping issues with the original arms during the conjure animations. I've been researching how to fix that. I'll have to either remove those animations from the small arms, or try to fine tune them, which is a bit beyond me, at the moment. I also have to merge his tail into the model. It's currently applied in the toolset.

I've been considering trying to make "Diablo" with a combination of the first two. The back spikes got me thinking about the way he looked in Diablo 1. Give it a muscle texture on the body. It just might work.

There's more to come. I'd really like to make some good outsiders/celestials, and I've recently discovered the KoToR heads Este put together. There's a few that would be superb for that. I want to do some of the Angelic Ranks, like Cherubim and Seraphim, and I don't mean cute little baby cherubs. I've had Valkyries on my mind too.

Thanks again for the encouragement!

Great-looking work, Izk. :-) I particularly like the slayer and the custom pit fiend. They evoke classic fiendish looks without depending too much on the standard models.

I'll be very interested to see what you do with the KotOR heads! If you have either of the KotOR games and there's a head that you want converted that isn't yet in my pack, please let me know.

Thanks so much, Este! And I just love those heads, especially the hooded female one with the eyes covered. That's one I definitely plan on using.

Many thanks to you too, Drewskie!

I'm happy to hear feedback on the Bhaal Spawn/Slayer. I'm especially fond of that one. I originally made it for a custom polymorph for a henchman in my module, inspired by fond memories of Baldur's Gate 2.

Decided to add some new pics today. Having a lazy and unproductive streak at the moment.

A while back on the old forums, I had posted about whether there were any creatures based on HP Lovecraft's works available. I could almost feel the blank stares, and got a few comments that you can't really do Lovecraft in NWN. I think I've come up with some reasonable substitutes, though I have to say, my mental picture of what they should really look like is beyond the capabilities of NWN, I think. I'd love to hear your thoughts on these.

Dream Avatar of Cthulhu (Half-Orc w/Mindflayer bits and anims):

Spawn of Dagon (something I made up):

Yithian-inspired "Scholar" (made from CODI Secundus):

Nyarlathotep (one several different "forms", made with Six's Morg skull and z217 beholder):

Mi-Go (made from Bacar model):

This last one really has nothing to do with HPL or outsiders, but I've been wanting to share it, because I know how much this community loves rats! Posted Image

What do you think? Any suggestions welcomed and appreciated!

Thanks Invisig0th. Your praise was just enough to spur some productivity today. Something I started a while ago I finally finished today!

Nyarlathotep form (Halaster body with CODI Parai mask)

I ought to start making up numbers for these "forms" as I make them, 52, 712, 11...
"Pray you never meet me in my thousand other forms, for I am Nyarlathotep, the Crawling Chaos"

Thought I'd stick a few more "outsider" pics in here, too, though they're not traditional demons or celestial types. More like strange Planar things, inspired by creatures in Half-Life:

Man, loving that Mi-go

My only commentary is that the Cthulu could maybe have a bigger head? I'd also maybe switch his wings out for Dragon ones, although this may just be because I'm not as much of a fan of the bat ones

If you're into making other things, some of the critters from Dominion's 3 Atlantis race might make suitable minions for the Dagon

That 3rd pic in the last post by Izk The Mad would make a good Atropal.

*Izk Googles "Atropal", then adds to idea list!*

Whoa! I like that. My kind of creature. Undead god-flesh things. Posted Image

@420, thanks for sharing that! If you should happen to read this, I could really a use a CEP team member's input on something else: http://social.biowar...1/index/4598806 Just need some input on 2da #s. That same info would be handy for when I release these, too.

@Mecheon, thanks. That Mi-Go was my third attempt. I agree about Cthulhu's head. I had some problems trying to resize it though, because it uses a skinmesh, and it seemed to get screwed up when I tried to reset the x-forms on it. Still playing with that. The bat wings were originally made for something else, but the color matched Cthulu's hands nicely. The Mi-Go's bat wings are semi-transparent, btw, with a honeycomb cell structure on them. It's hard to see in the pic, but I really like how they turned out.

I made some other Lovecraft critters recently I had to share, using Six's ghouls. Pale grey and pink versions are in the works. Sometimes, my own stuff creeps me out a little, lol. Here's some of "Pickman's models":

Izk, these are awesome. Anyone that say Lovecraft can't be done in NWN better go get a copy of Deities and Demigods, and not that crap version WotC put out - get the original AD&D version.

They yanked the Cthulhu mythos in later printings of the 1E Deities and Demigods for copyright reasons. So you'd need to get an early printing. But to your point -- yes, Lovecraft definitely inspired the people who created D&D, and anyone who says that isn't so is incorrect.

Unfortunately, tentacled monsters generally look awful in NWN. My understanding is that they can be done, but the modeling is much harder to do, has to do with skeletons and skinmeshes I think. Take a look at the Roper in CEP for an example of how NOT to do tentacles. The only halfway decent example I can think of is the mindflayer mouth tentacles. So for anyone interested in Cthulhu, that's going to be a challenge.

Oops! I forgot to reply to this!

@pstemarie, thanks!

I still have my copy of that Deities & Demigods. It's "a timeless classic". I used to hate that Erol Otus artwork, but I love it now. I've been working on "Shub N'Grath" based on his image from that, using giant eyeballs and a bunch of placeables, which spawns all sorts of little creature oddities, like flying eyes and partial torsos. Posted Image

I came on here today to share a new Cthulhu experiment, using CODI's Maelephant and Bioware's Alhoon head. It's still a work in progress:

The bigger head definitely looks better. I made it especially big on this one. The body texture needs a lot of work to match it up with the head better, though the striping effect they both share is going to work in my favor, I think. I just might keep the hairy beer-belly and the purple nipples. That cracks me up. It definitely adds a grotesque look to it. Also, the head isn't animated, in fact I had to remove the bones and convert it from a skin into a trimesh for now. The tentacles seem more like tusks when it moves its head, which may actually be worth keeping, after seeing it in game. If anything, it might be cool to convert them into a danglymesh. HPL's creatures are always open to a little interpretation, so I think it would work either way.

The wings are blue dragon wings from CEP btw. I'm currently having an issue with model type/animation compatibility, I think, because they don't animate in game. That's usually the cause of that IIRC, isn't it?

As always, all feedback welcome!

That roper is definitely BUFU. However, I'd beg to differ on the tentacles looking awful in NWN. The trick is to use several joints - like the dragon tail - then lay a skin over it all. You can get a fairly decent effect this way. Another thing to consider is the animation cycle - the more frames defining movement, the better the whole effect will look when animated.

Izk - I like the combination of the Maelphant and Flayer Head. You are definitely on the right track in capturing the whole feel of the Cthulu mythos with this latest round of creations. I look forward to seeing more.

@pstemarie, thanks. Hehe, it's probably not in your best interest to encourage me to make weird multi-tentacled things, since it looks like you'll be my go-to guy for animation assistance in the future for Enhanced. I've been especially intent on making something that could pass for a Shoggoth, just to warn you. Posted Image Any chance you'd consider Lovecraftian additions to Enhanced?

Oh, and it's official. I'm going to nickname that "Beer Belly Cthulhu", and keep the hairy chest. Sounds like a seafood dish.

There's something very "Frankenstein's Monster" about this thread. Taking body parts from various other creatures and fusing them together into abominations. I like it.

Fun stuff, Izk! I like the pot-bellied Cthulhu in particular; it sort of reminds me of my own attempt at an old school Orcus I did a while back. I used the Maelephant torso, Mephistopheles's limbs and the head of the CEP Orcus, if I remember correctly.

Posted Image

I never could get the animations to work properly, but it was fun splicing different creatures together.

@Jez, your continuing support of my madness is always appreciated. I think they call that being an "enabler". Posted Image

@Eradrain, thanks, and the Frankenstein notion occured to me too, hehe. I do wish I could make new stuff from scratch, but this method has been a lot less time consuming, and probably just as much fun. I think there's a little of my own weird artistic philosophy at work there too, about taking the familiar and presenting it in new and twisted ways. It can be a little unsettling, if done right.

@Elphim, love that Orcus idea. I think Meph's limbs really add something to it. You could probably make that work by just using the Maelephant anims as a supermodel. You might have to start over, but you could align the Meph parts to match the positioning of the Maelephant limbs and their pivot points, and then remove those Maelephant limbs. I was able to do that with a couple of my critters. I don't know what your skill level is, but feel free to ask if you want any advice. I'm no expert, but I've learned a few useful things making this stuff. FYI, the Maelephant has a nice head-butt attack animation that would work great with that goat head!

I have to admit, I was a little undecided about "Beer Belly Cthulhu" at first, but now I want to follow through on it and improve the texture. I think the default Alhoon head texture looks fine as-is, so I just need to carry some of its elements onto the body, like making the Maelephant's stripes look more like the tentacles'. How about some texture elements from the CODI Manes, like skin pock marks? Make that beer belly as grotesque as possible! Posted Image

Anyway, thanks for the encouragement everybody!

As I've said in other threads, Izk, its a small thing to justify adding Cthulu themed monsters to NwnE - just got to add a custom section to the standard palette (or maybe Extraplanar) for such stuff.
