I also approve of your monster-stitching madness.

I've mentioned it before on this forum, but if you're looking for further inspiration for really vile-looking creatures, you should check out some of the Warhammer Online concept art, particularly the Nurgle-related pieces.

What I think might help with Cthulu there is maybe give him a wing node, so the wings aren't part of his geometry? That way they'll animate. The issue is the Maelephant doesn't have the wing animations in his model, so they won't animate, but the wing nodes are a separate model stuck on the back so they'll use the default animations per dragon disciples and whatnot

And if you're gonna go with Warhammer, Harrison, you gotta post some Skaven. Them and Lizardmen are the best races in the whole thing :P

That roper is definitely BUFU. However, I'd beg to differ on the tentacles looking awful in NWN.

Agreed.  I actually meant to say that tentacled (or "tentacled") creatures have historically tended to look awful in NWN. I didn't mean to insinuate that it can't be done, only that is generally hasn't been done. I have no doubt that a talented individual who is willing to put some work into it can indeed make a great tentacled creature.

@Mecheon, those are wing node applied wings, and it turns out they're part of the 1.69 patch. After testing them a bit more, there seems to be an issue with using them on creature models.

@Ben, those Warhammer pics are great. Thanks for sharing. The Nurgles remind me of something I've been working on. I'm making a set of Mutants using Quantiko's Resident Evil Nemesis as a starting point. I call them the InHumans. Thought I'd share a few samples. See if you can spot the Dark Future placeable I, um, borrowed, hehe. I've also been considering crazier versions of them, with weapons for hands, much like that first Nurgle:

Soldier (reskin w/long coat)
Soldier (reskin w/armor)
RE4 style Garrador
Garrador
Cremator 1
Cremator 2
Power Armor
Power Armor
Cyborg
"El Matador"

Here's another Quantiko reskin and mutant monster stitching effort I've been working on. Anyone familiar with the Centaur mutant in Fallout 2? I made a "Cerberus" inspired by it, using CODI's two-headed hound, a Hellhound, and the Tyrant:

Mutant Cerberus

How about a change of pace? I've been working on horses, and I want to run a couple new ones by the gang here. The first one is a new version of my Minogon/Horse hybrid, with an improved alpha channel for a nice subtle shiny metal effect. It looks quite Terminator-ish, IMO, and is meant to go with the guys in Power Armor in the links above:

Bonus Minogon reskin I needed for the horse's legs:

A very normal Clydesdale-ish horse, using parts from Hardpoints' Cauchemar and Unicorn models:

That last one was so simple I'm surprised I never tried it before, and it would be easy to make more variations of it.

Looking really horrible (in a good way), Izk! I like the horses as well.

Heh, I see it. You're welcome to use any of my stuff freely, of course.

Looking at that Minogon, I bet you could do a mean clockwork horror or even a clockwork swordsman.

Izk, that robotic horse would actually be a fantastic addition for a certain golem-crazed orc tinker boss in my module I am making. I hope you plan on releasing this great stuff to the community and not simply taunting us with it! :)

@Ben, thanks, and thanks for the permission too. I was planning on asking eventually. I was thinking about making a few reskinned variations of some of the DF structures, using textures from some of the tilesets I'm using in my module. I've gotten a lot of use out of those via d20 placeables, and they add a great sci-fi/industrial feel without looking too "Earthy". Oh, and I found this interesting Warhammer pic today: inevitablecity02.jpg I was browsing for pics of Silent Hill creatures and that came up, as someone on a WH forum compared it to Pyramid Head. More cool ideas for mutant monster madness!

@TR, that's an excellent suggestion. I want to do more robotic style creatures, especially with that same look. You just gave me an idea to use most of that Minogon for a humanoid, btw. Remove and swap out a few parts, make it use the a_ba anims. Maug parts maybe? The Minogon's neck/shoulder area would create a "hooded" effect, with just the face showing. Hmm, I like that idea. Stay tuned...

@Hi Kalindor! How are you? Golem crazed orc tinker boss, you say? Sounds like fun! And no taunting on my part, I hope. I always did feel a little guilty about showing pics in the past and not releasing any of it. I would've liked to have released stuff a lot sooner, but real life gets in the way sometimes, and a lot of it needed some more work. I'm working on releasing my horses soon, but I'm making a lot of small improvements, as well as a few new additions. Hopefully the new stuff will make it worth the wait. I have a bit of a short attention span, so I end up getting distracted and making other weird creatures once in a while too, so bear with me. Doing well, thanks. I too just arrived at a point where RL matters allow me to dabble once more in NWN. I love the artistic style of your work, as usual, and will take your word for it that someday I will be able to thrash my players with these creatures. :)

Where can I get all these monsters? The vault has just the most useless search feature.

Thanks for any help

True, Izk is very good with these mods. I've seen also your retexturing of Halaster (1.69) on the vault. Really cool, but i was wondering... Which program could open the 1.69 models? I wanted to decrease the height of halaster, since like wizard human it's... a little to tall.. I tried with gmax with the nwn plugin but it tolds me unsupported mdl extension.. And ObsidianSS same, doesn't support the 1.69 models.

You could just scale him in the toolset, Using the "Invisible_Human_Male_050" appearance he is still an imposing figure (at 040 he's a bit weedy). Just add his appearance as a tail.

My appologies if I'm stating the obvious.

Ok, i have updated my version to 1.69 (using the eng tlk) and i found the scaling models... But i'm sorry if i'm not that good at, (or i'm simply stupid) but i don't understand what you mean tyndrel with "add on the tail"...

Nicotine - the scaling effects tail models. Using the toolset: Create a creature with appearance type invisible creature 200. Then go to the appearance part of the edit palette, then find the tail drop down, and select a tail that is a creature. The creature (tail model) will be twice its normal size.

Now, if you want to scale other creatures than are available in the tail appearance menu you need to add them to the tailmodel 2da and include that modified tailmodel.2da in a HAK with your module.

Here is a link to Proleric's excellent guide to "1.69 Horses and Creature Scaling".  It is also included in the Lexicon.

@Lazycat_1984, if you're still around, thank you for your interest, and stay tuned.

@lordofworms, thank you for the compliments. As a fan of your creations, I consider it high praise, indeed!

@henesua, thanks for the enthusiastic compliment! I wish I still had time for my module, because those AI packs in your signature sound like something I would enjoy using. If "Light Shy creatures" works the way it sounds, I'd definitely recommend it for some of my critters!

A hearty hello to everybody else. Looks like I'm back, yet again. You'll have to excuse the extended absence. (Stuff) happens, priorities change, you know how it is. Last year got a little "challenging" for a while. At one point I had even decided I should just walk away from my NWN stuff, because I kept worrying about getting back to it when I really needed to be focused on other tasks. Bah!

I've had a change of heart over the past couple months, about many things. On a personal note, I've decided I need to pursue my "real life" art career again -aggressively, before I get any older, and before my current job crushes my spirit completely. I'm going to have to set up a website and online gallery, among other things. In the process of planning what I'd need to do for all that, I suddenly realized how valuable the time I've spent on NWN really was. I seemed to have acquired a lot of skills here, including shameless self-promotion, and showing my work for public critique, two things I was never very good at in the past. I've also made some interesting friends here, other creative people from around the world, even corresponded with total strangers about wildly imaginative projects, and developed a lot of interesting computer skills involving digital media, especially Photoshop. Not a bad start, really. I've left a lot of unfinished business here that I feel the need to get back to. I gotta finish this stuff for my own sake, and to show my appreciation to those of you who've helped and encouraged me over the years. I'm surprised at how many of you are still around. That's probably one of the reasons I keep coming back. It's like a never ending party.

I'll most likely be asking for some real help this time around. I won't have a lot of free time to devote to this stuff in the future, so I intend to make whatever time I do have count. I still have to go through things again and figure out what really needs to be finished, and what's good enough as-is. I know there were a few things beyond my skill level that could use an expert's touch, like a couple animation issues, for example.

Well that's more than enough personal revelations and ranting from me for now, hehe. I'll post more on here once I get a better handle on things. I now feel the need to browse and lurk, and see what everybody else has been up to!

Thanks for the warm welcome back, guys!

@henesua, I did see your comments on my skybox Vault page sometime last year. Sorry I couldn't take the time to respond. Once I get some other things out of the way, I'll have to get some feedback from you about the issues you encountered. Skyboxes are a low priority right now, but I still have a couple unfinished ones I'd like to add to that set someday. If there is something that needs fixing, I can do it then.

@Pstemarie, glad to see you're still around too!

@Izk: it may be that most of my issues are videocard related. So don't worry about it too much. I'm more interested in seeing new skyboxes than having you fiddle around with the old ones.
