Now... to start off this topic i want to say that i hate asking a question that's already been answered in the exact way it needs to be fixed......
http://nwn.bioware.c...7&forum=49&sp=0

I'm having problems with the FRESH install ( New computer everything works fine without the update... etc.)
It just wont let me update, i have followed the directions over and over, re read them and tried again. For some reason i get the same answer everytime..

Get the critical rebuild.

The critical re-build on the Diamond dvd does nothing but tell me to un-install and re-install, i've ran the included (NWNEnglish1.66HotUUpdate) update to 1.66.8074 English.. It ran great, i was also able to update by the auto patcher once..

I do exactly that, try to update again and it gives me the error as i've posted above..

Can anyone tell me..Am I missing a BIG piece to this puzzle? Because i'm confused on what else to do:crying::crying::crying:

Thanks, Jay

Download the critical rebuild, version 1.69, from the nwn website. I use diamond and that is what I use from a fresh install.

Skip trying the updater. It almost never works anyway.

Your DVD should have patched the Critical Rebuild for v1.66 when you originally installed the game.

You will need to DL the v1.69 Critical Rebuild for Windows English version here.

It is a much smaller file than the updater would have provided if it were actually working so should be faster for you.

Good luck, mate!

okay this is crazy! Why in the heck spend money on a game that you cant even play on the dang lastest version of windows it almost seems pointless to even upgrade cause to be honest I love this game more then I could ever love vista

First of all, thanks for the link to the patcher to 1.69. I couldn't find it on bioware's webpage. Game seems to be running properly now.

As for lunakitte26, I wholeheartedly agree. I have to have a dual boot between windows xp and windows 7 just to play a few choice games. Wish nwn1 would be updated to work on windows 7 as I enjoy it a lot more than nwn2. :crying:

I have installed the game on xp,vista, and win7 and it works.

It works best on xp.

Vista you have to update it to 1.69 before it will play.Turn user account off.Only quork I found is when you try to shrink window sometimes you have to hit it twice.I think Vista ran toolset the best.
I dont think Vista was that bad.

Win7 has to be updated to 1.69 to play.Turn user account off.Set nwn and nwn.exe to compatibility mode xp sp3 . Since last update of win7 when I try to shrink window game crashes.

EDIT: btw I turned off win7 Aero mode ,it seems to get confused alot when shrinking window.Vista didnt have a problem with the game in Aero mode but I usually turn that stuff off anyways.

I for one didn't have a single problem when it came to running it on Win7. Simply installed it and it ran like a charm, no workarounds needed. :/

Really relieved that was the case too, this game is timeless. ^^

Indeed, I installed it, applied both critical rebuilds, and didn't have to check any compatibility/administrator options. No need for dual boots or XP.

Does anyone know why the critical rebuild is so hard to find on BioWare's site? Or anything NWN related for that matter. Can they honestly not see the need for a general site search bar on their homepage or do they just want to discourage us all from playing older classic games like this?

I don't know why Biowarre (or EA) makes it so hard to find, but it is on this page:

BioWare belongs to EA now.  NWN is an Atari game.

What you want is like expecting Activision maintaining a Battlefield 3 site when it is another companies game.
