Ok, so I have Mass Effect for 2 years and everytime I installed it I played it with video settings at MAX, and now I want to start the game again to import character to ME2. The problem is that no matter  what settings I run the game at, it's very sluggish, I mean I can't even shoot properly. So my question is can I do something about it (I installed latest patch, I reinstalled the game and I updated my drivers to MAX still the same problem)

It will probably go away but just in case I want some answers. So please help.

Within the past week or two, Microsoft has been releaseing some Hotfix patches to its Direct3D graphics system, and your complaint is becoming common.  If you have left yourself (your PC) wide open to allow MS to update whatever it want to, whenever it chooses to, that's what happened to you.  Many older model Mainline game cards that had still been hanging in pretty well at three years old (Geforce 8600 GT, for instance), now have been forced downward into a much lower performance area, at the borderline between Mainline and Businesws Grade!

This goes double for anyone running a borderline card, of course, such as an HD 4550 or a 9400 GT.

If you have a Geforce 8n00 card, in particular, I think that I would start testing older drivers than what you have now, to find out if you can recapture some of the lost performance, although I can't guess how doing so may affect some other games you also want to continue running.

Considering that almost all of the 9n00 cards are just 8n00s with new names, and corrected cooling fan controls in the firmware, and the 9400 was already barely into the Borderline Range, yes. (It's just an 8500 GT on a thinner die wafer.)
