I'm not too sure about Ao. After all, he didn't care when Cyric went to backstab Mystra. :shakefist: I'd think the Bhaalspawn saga would seem a pretty trivial matter to him.

No matter what Cyric claims, I think the prime reason why he didn't snuff the Bhaalspawn is because foremost he feared Kelemvor's & Mystra's retaliations... which would probably trigger another Godswar & him possibly losing his godhood.

Also, don't forget Rillifane interferes directly in Suldanesselar if he is awakaned by .

I spent months meditating and thinking about this problem (hence no posts lately) and now I believe that what Rillifane did was actually according to the limitations set by Ao.

if that's not dedication I don't know what is.

The thing is, Lolth only bothers to send a yochlol if Viconia is in the romance with the Bhaalspawn. So it seems Lolth must fear that the Bhaalspawn will eventually be able to free Viconia from her influence on her life and that's why she acts.

If Viconia is not romanced, it seems Lolth is content with the continuous anguish & fear she inspires in Viconia, whereever she goes.

(but then of course, there's the issue of a level 30+ cleric being able to be poisoned by a lowly yochlol, not to mention Shar not protecting what would be one of her most powerful followers)

Rillifane gets to intervene because he gets woken up. If the elves had been able to do it, there would be no injunction against it. No reason why someone else waking him up would suddenly force him to say "Oh, sorry, you're a bhaalchild, I have to let this city of my people get turned into a cinder by the Outcast". It's not like he went seeking out .

Anyway, Viconia is "safe" in the underdark in the same way that Drizzt is during his long stays there after going far out of his way to ****** off the spider queen. If gods could just smite any random mortal they wanted to, there wouldn't be any mortals left at all.

I don't know why we're bringing Rillifane into this.  His intervention has nothing to do with  the Bhaalspawn struggles or their wars.     It has to do with a direct attack  being made against the Tree of Life- of which he's always been  its protecter

Secondly: Rillifane said he could do nothing more after killing Irenicus' servants and opening the door for you.
Was Irenicus too strong for a God to handle? I doubt it. The most probable reason (as I see it) is that Rillifane believed that this would indeed be too much meddling in the affairs of the Bhaal spawn. We know that this God is a bit more likely to follow rules than Cyric.

I think  the explanation he gives in-game makes sense:   Irenicus has surrounded himself with magic that corrupts nature -- and since Rillifane is the personification of nature  itself, he can't touch him.

But as to the topic itself, I think someone  pointed out that you and Vicky manage to defeat  both a  handmaiden and a Yochol  that Lolth sends quite easily, and so I'm guessing that Lolth is content at this point to bide her time until the two of you are  seperated.    And that's exactly what she does.  In the official storyline,  Lolth does eventually succeed in killing Viconia.

Only in the romance ending though, non romance ending she goes on to defend Suldanessellar alongside Cheeze Do'Urden amongst other noble acts. According to the ending, her fate is unkonwn. My bet is she's doing barrel rolls and shoop da woops somewhere in Faerun.

When I was in Ust Natha a yochlol and a drow handmaiden appeared in the street and attacked Viconia.  I thought that was deliberately chosen timing because we were in a drow city at the time, although I did wonder why the other drow didn't intervene.

It just happens when you're near the endpoint in the Viconia's romance, and is not site specific.
