For those of you using ATI cards, specifically the HD4xxx series:

If you are experiencing constant and random crashes, (game hangs for about 2 seconds then crashes to desktop with "Dragon Age has stopped working") more often during a fight involving magic effects, try disabling Frame buffer effects.

This removes HDR lighting and a few of the additional lighting and overlay effects and tends to give the game a darker appearance.

This is a recent development having been able to play the game on it's highest video settings pre 1.04 I am now unable to get through any fight involving magic post 1.04 unless I disable the Frame buffer effects.

It is worth noting that this issue starts at the Circle tower, with the particle effect played by the Abominations on death (when they explode) But seems to get gradually worse from then on until the game is unplayable.

Anyway, on to the point of the post, besides hoping this helps someone I'm also hoping for a response from Bioware (optimistic I know) that they are aware of this issue and intend to fix it, as I am waiting to see if they do before buying any more of the DLC, or have they dropped support for Dragon Age: Origins/Awakening in favour of Dragon Age 2?

Also if anybody else having this problem would like to post the model of there graphics card here, maybe that would help the troubleshooting process for Bioware.

Thanks

Edit: Added the behaviour of the crash to the above.

I'm using an ATI Radeon Mobility HD 4850 (Catalyst 10.7 drivers) with patch 1.04 and I do not have any issue with Frame-Buffer Effects on.

I have a 5600 series and I began crashing at the circle of magi. Is there a fix yet?

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm using an ATI Radeon HD 6770, and on occassion the game does crash at random. I'll try it out, see how it works. Thanks again!
