Based on what I know so far, I will probably steer clear of this. Which is a shame, since DA:O is the greatest game I ever played outside the Sims franchise (sorry for the plug). I also just bought ME:2, which is not bad, and a decent game, but the dialogue wheel is one of the major weaknesses, not a plus. So I have no idea why they would implement such a thing in DA2.
The worse thing is the lack of races. I was dissapointed with the races in DA:O, I was thinking "Now that I'm an elf, I wonder how people will respond." Well, outside the dalish and the alienage, ( and since I was a mage several of the people in the alienage did not say anything) only three characters ever made a statement at all, the quartermaster and ash warrior in Ostagar and Alistair's sister. I was hoping for a more widespread effect that was not there, same with being a mage, or city elf, not as much reaction for the mainstream populace. Now there are no races, no elves, no dwarves, if anything they should have added more races not taking it out.
I cannot play the character I want, and specialize them the way I want, I am forced into being human, and forced into one of two characters. It is not as customizable as DA:O, maybe the faces are, but the background, the race, the class, I cannot choose these, or at least they will not have the impact they should have. (Mage origin for being a mage changes the game in DA:O, I doubt the impact will be there for DA2.)
I also read this preview, http://www.gamersdai...552-page-1.html, and it did not sound good. The story seems too spread out, and the way they did it did not sound good, although it could be the way it was phrased that seemed wrong. For one thing, you get to know about the childhood, this is troubling. Since if I was mage, I would be in a tower and probably not know or remember who my parents/family were. I hope they won't forget that little fact. I also got the impression in DA:O that letting a mage leave the tower and wander freely was not something the chantry would do. I had to be recruited in to the Gray Wardens, if not, the chantry would not let me leave ever, I would be trapped there for the rest of my life, so how did Hawk escape? Seems like a plot hole developing here.
All in all, it looks like Bioware is systematically removing the rpg elements to focus on combat or other things. The lack of races is a MAJOR disappointment, and the everything I read looks like this game is going in the wrong direction. So unless I have money to burn or read something that makes me think that the role playing aspect is NOT being stripped from the game, I will not buy it.
I'm afraid the Dragon Age franchise will have only two games, the first one lit a roaring fire for all to see, the second one snuffed out before anyone could.....

I believe Dragon Age 2 will be the death of RPGs everywhere forever.

I think DA2 will be the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

I'll wait for far more info before deciding. I'll confess though, that I was extremely worried about the game but the more I read about it, the more my worries are allayed.

Well, I'm not making any decisions over 6 months before the release, but the current status is that there's a lot of convincing to do to make me a day 1 buyer.

I find this to be particularly troubling:
Rehashing battles more than a few times is not my idea of a fun plot device.
So there are levels you will play as Varrick’s epic tale and you will also see them as they really happened. In each one Hawk’s situation will change including his armor, companions, and actual events.
Rehashing battles more than a few times is not my idea of a fun plot device.

Oh no, I spend copious amounts of time on this board simply so I can act smug and say, "I'm sorry, you're buying that game? My condolences."
And because tone doesn't carry well on the internet, the above? Sarcasm.
At the moment I'm definitely prepared to buy it, but possibly not a day one release. Maybe a week or so after it comes out.

I see BioWare's expectation management is paying off
I'll buy it unless it's some buggy aberration that gets a bunch of 6.8 ratings or something.

Will I buy DA2? Of course I will! That's a no-brainer because I see nothing else on the horizon suiting me - in spite or whatever inadequacies it may have.

Not unless it's heavily discounted or I suddenly suffer a serious blow to the head.

Well the only thing that'll stop me buying it so far is if I don't have the money, otherwise I'll definitely get it. And if I really like it, I might buy another copy, just to carry around with me and hug warmly.

Seeing as its being rushed to the market and retooled to be as much of a hack and slash as the engine will support, hell no. While I appreciate a good ol' Diablo clone, trying to make one on DA:Os engine=Epic fail.

I say, we are one and the same. It is quite clear that they are intending to make Dragon Age 2 a watered down version of Dynasty Warriors.Archereon wrote...

Yes. Because I have loved every single thing that I've heard about it so far, especially about the new combat system. Making the boring, tedious fights in DA:O faster and more streamlined is nothing but a positive.
Er...I mean "Raaagh no i hate Bioware now death of CRPGs personally I blame EA"
