I'm not sure why Ray Muzyka is suddenly calling the sequel an action-RPG, but I suppose we ll find out sooner or later

Cue all of the posts saying that the president of BioWare being honest is somehow a horrible thing.

Well done Ray-Ray my boy, you've just presented another oppurtunity for the doomsayers.

I'd prefer it to have more action *runs*

Action RPG is, emm, another genre. Demon's Souls is a good action RPG for example.

DAO had absolutely nothing that must be present in a good action RPG. It was a CRPG.

Awe. Can't those who get first in line get in first, though? I need to get into the bomb shelter before the crazy and doom starts up!

Oh man.. I'm guessing he's not he one that has clean up this forum when it implodes.

They should have learned that being honest in no longer a good thing.

No they need to keep working on DA2 for the benefit of the survivors.

I love a good action-RPG. However, I seriously doubt a good action-RPG can be made with Bioware's current engine - so, yes, it's not great news.

Guns, Rank Up Screen, Jumping Aerial Combat or GTFO! All it needs now is dual flaming chainlinked blades and a Pegasus

Fun fact: CRPG - stands for 'Computer Role Playing Game.' DA:O while initially at glance, a CRPG, and containing elements of a classic CRPG, also has elements of a tactical action RPG, which allows you to set-up attacks and things to execute on the console as well as on the computer.

The Witcher is an action RPG.

Dragon Age Origins is a tactical action RPG, or at least that's how I see it. I see no difference in the classification, but that's probably just my view of things that will be inevitably flamed and/or attacked within five minutes. < >

Well... all the doom Doom DOOM has kept me off these forums for a while. Now when I come back I see more "here comes the doomsayers!" Then actually hearing doomsaying. Step in the right direction I suppose!

Anyway, DA2 is not an action RPG. Action RPG never allows you to pause action, and equally demands building your character and quick reflexes. Speaking of Dragon Age 2 it's obvious already that we can pause the game and issue commands and blocking, dodging, landing critical hits etc. have nothing to do with player's reflexes.

Demon's Souls is one of the best, and most respected action RPG in the past 5 years.  It also has NO JUMP BUTTON and no AERIAL COMBO lame Devil May Cry combat.

Take note, you don't need silly JUMPING ATTACKS to make a good action RPG.  THis isn't Mario Brothers jumping on mushrooms.  An armored human w/ a giant 2 handed weapon doing a jumping attack is pure kiddy nonsense.

Why would he call it anything else? It would be a blatant lie to call it otherwise.

I see it more as a tactical action RPG. No real 'skill in dodging or parrying attacks like Fable, or the Witcher, but not exactly 'turn-based' like traditional CRPGs such as Baldur's Gate were. I suppose my classification is probably 'false' and/or non-existant, but one never doth know these things.

Can I just stoke this fire a little by pointing out that some people would consider Origins an action-RPG? It's hardly a tightly-defined subgenre.
