No, the facts disagree with you.  Never pause?  Only Demon's Souls has that feature.  99% of offline action RPGs allow pausing.

Diablo doesn't really require reflexes

Yes, that would be the point. At least a couple of the devs have spent numerous posts around here trying to reasure PC players that they weren't going to get an actioned out version of the game. In essesne trying to steer us away from the connotations of the label "action RPG" and here Ray just specifically slapped on the label "action RPG" along with all of its oh so taboo connotations.

The story, setting and everything was quite well done. Some of the better acting, in it, too. I actually preferred the acting in Jade Empire to KOTOR's actors, but that's me. They flowed quite well, and made the story all the more enjoyable.

I liked the gameplay though it was a bit shallow. A sequel to Jade Empire would be on my top to-buy-immediately lists..

Also. I was wondering. When did 'action rpg' become a bad thing? And when did 'pause and play' and 'auto-attack' become part of action rpg's? Just wonderin'.

I don't think your shield provides you with enough protection. ;)

Heh. I saw that video last night and wondered how long it would take for this thread to be made.

Oh what fun we shall have.

You do realize the jumping part is more than likely a skill that you likely don't ever even need to purchase unless you feel obligated/want to purchase with your talent skills, yes?

No, Jumping has been confirmed to have a dedicated button. The jump button, so you can "press Jump button, press Attack button to unleash AWESOME BAD ASS JUMPING ATTACK"   - confirmed in previews and direct from Bioware.  AWESOME JUMPING ATTACKS!

Dragaon Age 2 - It's a-Me, Mario, only w/  a beard and blood smears on my face.:crying:

Neither of those things became those things. Action RPG is not objectively bad, it's just that Action RPG is what DA should not be. ME already has that covered. Different games with different styles is a good thing. Don't make them all the same.

To each their own. I thought Jade Empire was excellently well-done and one of their better games. Comes fairly close to KOTOR in that regard, but to each their own.

Jade Empire is one of my fav games.  But the combat is horribly unbalanced, way too easy and lacks any depth to it at all.  It hints at depth, but you only need to really do the same thing over and over again, combo attacks for power up drops

Point being, I'd rather have a JE2 not Dragon Age 2 and NO JE2 and the "action' combat of JE being shoe horned into DA2

Some of my favorite games of all time are "action RPGs" of some sort.

One of the joys of DA was it was the "spiritual successor to Baldur's Gate 2", and that moniker does not apply to DA2, sad but true.

Press A to "make something awesome happen" baddasss!

When these guys/gals are making fun of posters for screaming left and right about "it's action RPG like ME2!!!!!" and then their boss goes on G4 and says "it's action RPG," yes he did indeed just put their foots in their mouths.

I can't think of any instance of devs "making fun of posters," care to back that up? The most I've heard from a dev on the matter of "Dragon Effect" was Mike Laidlaw saying, "It's an understandable concern, but..."

This was expected. No surprise to me. Though I cannot say I am glad about the labeling, at least it is honest.

I'm not trying to pick fights with any devs so I'm not naming names. But phrases come to mind of this variety: "I love how people go nuts without waiting to hear any actual information," "it's hilarious to see posters imediately assosate everything to ME2 just because of the dialog wheel," and "don't people ever realize that we get our kicks out of watching them go nuts over stuff when they don't have any real info on it yet."

LOL, so true, so true!

Hell hed call it rich and flavorfull to boot!

The One, great points but as you see, all hypocricy will be spun and twisted away with nonsense!

As for Action part, why would anyone argue that, thats what most folks have expected, a step away from RPG and into Action. Ray just solidifies that concern.

Whats there to argue about!

PS: Wow, this first page of thread is so troll filled, Bioware must be so proud! Special Ed classes love their products now.

Everyone (except SteveGarbage above me) seems to be ignoring that before he called it an action rpg, he talks about the richness of tactics and such. Considering that we still select skills except for the regular attack, we can still issue orders, we can still manipulate our party's tactics, we can use auto-attack, and we can move the camera around (albeit differently) to survey the field, I fail to see how this game is in any way an action rpg. Unless he means that there's more action that's more exciting, which is great. You can be strategic and excited at the same time.

Ok, now I'll protect myself in case of flying rocks.

I'm glad at least one person in here besides me actually listened to the rest of the words Muzyka said besides "Action RPG." However, selective hearing is a skill I guess.

I can't help it but I imagine devs telling Ray "don't screw this, remember, it's still RPG" "No problem, I've got that covered!" later "...An action RPG...." devs "ARGHH"

I would like to ask you something. Did you just insinuate Special Ed classes as a bad thing? Really? And you just insinuated that Special Ed classes utilize BioWare 's games in such a..

Wow. You know, I've heard some bad things about Special Ed classes. I've heard things left and right. But that sentence alone makes everything you ever say, or will say, complete and utter bullcrap. Insulting those who are actually POSITIVe about DA2 is one thing, but insulting those in special ed classes and those who are positive in the same sentence?

My, my, I've yet to see someone as sillily trolling as you, though many at 4chan come close.

I heard the whole thing just fine. You've got to keep in mind the importance of the connotations behind the label "Action RPG." They don't go away just because he said "rich and tactical" before it. He's trying to sell the game to everyone, but some of us are just not falling for it. He said "Action RPG" and no matter how much he pines about Tactics or Richness, it won't take away that "Action RPG" is on top of all that. At least not until we see some gameplay footage and find out if he was just using that term to spin it for the consle gamers. (not meant as an insult to console gamers)
