I find picking my dialogue to keep them both happy is part of the fun but i'm a male PC and they are good at telling girls whatever they want to hear.<3:wub:

heh! But let us be real, as the gals are expert at the same tactics.

^^ lol, they are far better at that tactic then men!

On to more game play. Here is one spell that you do not see mentioned here much, but it is very effective: Spell Shield. Cleared out the Mages Circle and in the Fade and this spell has been a lifesaver. Sure, it gets overshadowed by Mana Clash, but this is a tier 1 spell - has a quick cast time and quick recharge. The instant you see a mage through this up. Allows you surive some otherwise hard encounters. Combine it with the amulet Spell Ward for a 100% spell resistance. Since I am not taking Mana Clash, and no one has Crushing Prison yet, it has been very effective. Bring on the Fireballs and Crushing Prisons!

However, I am actually thinking the majority of fights will be pretty easy. But some may actually be quite hard. Branka, the High Dragon, most Bosses and even the Reverants may be difficult. That is when we can go Arcane Warrior/Bear form and lay down some smack down!

you may be wrong about this...im playing with a mage that has CC up the butt, im not playing with a tanking character  and i can keep bosses/revelants CC'd almost the whole fight...there's a few times where i gotta run in circles or be healed waiting for spells to cool down, but i can imagine the amount of CC you'd be able to put out with 3 mages

my typical party is my warden
wynne as a healer/support
alistar as a DW warrior
and whoever else i wish to bring..usually bring leliana as an archer so she can pick locks

Hmm.  One of the first character guides I read dissed Spell Shield.  Now both you and TBastian have recommended it; I must reconsider!

Spell Shield's biggest issue is that it uses up Mana. Without Mana, a Mage has no way to do damage. However, the abundance of Lyrium Potions actually makes this a minor annoyance. Not only that, but you can actually turn it off when there are no mage's around (or when they're all dead). This is a major advantage over other characters, who would have to change their entire armor setup in the middle of combat to drop their Spell Resistance for more effective armor bonuses.

Frankly, I think Spell Shield is worth having with any character. Especially when backed up with The Spellward.

I've never used Spell Shield but it could hypothetically be really good for blood mages with very high constitution (get Lifegiver ring and Blood Gorged Amulet). If you do enough casting from hit points, Spell Shield will have enough mana to keep your mage protected.

I've never tried this so I'm just speculating but I'm probably going to give it a go when I'm done going through each of the Origins in turn.

I would be tempted to take Dog, Shale, or some 4th party member just to receive three varied weapon enhancements from the mages. Dog could be considered as a familiar, Shale as another component, Lil as a tactical distraction.... *rowr*, etc.

Hey, BC, are you still playing this one? I'm running 3 mages + Leli right now. It was an attempt at the no reload challenge but that aspect ended frustratingly on that little side quest to slay the abomination that killed its former mentor. I killed the thing easily but it got me when it blew up. Still playing, though, and:

* Encounter as difficult as expected - The arcane warrior, dragons and cultists in the ruined temple - my only party wipe. He gets spell shield up fast. I should have ignored him, as I don't think he has any dangerous spells, and concentrated on the dragons.

* Encounter much easier than expected - The high dragon - it never grabbed anyone. Maybe I just got colossally lucky or maybe it only does that vs. melee attacks. I've never run an all ranged-attack group against it before. I didn't keep a save to replay it and see, alas. Even when it swept Wynne up close it didn't grab her.

* Encounter worth a chuckle - I broke my rule about no mana clash for the sake of the no reload challenge (oh well) and boy, did it make the Gauntlet easy where you encounter your own party. Bam - in an instant Leli was the only enemy left.
