Will gender have any significant effect in the Origin stories.

I'm asking this because in most games there isen't much of a different except for a tiny change in dialog or non at all. Anyway, what do you think?

*light spoilers?*
Meaning why are you not a noble hunter like your sister? Maybe NPCs go around calling you ugly and fat or something like that. It'd be pretty amusing.

Whata diffrences are there in the Origins if you play as a male or female?
------------------------------------------------------
Mark Darrah: People will definately react to you differently based upon your gender. Some origins, in fact, will play out VERY differently. I won't reveal more now. Friday October 23, 2009 7:55 Mark Darrah.

Just found this while i was reading through the live blog... Looks like someone beat me to it.

I can't find any videos of a male city elf origin. It seems to be all female in the teasers. Are you sure the male elf is not also breaking out?

Just why do you think the humans are kidnapping the female elves?

I wasn't expecting that. After all, many male gamers won't see the female character's perspective.(As I wouldn't have either if I didn't read this) Guess I'll go ahead and make a female, at least for replay.

A lot more male gamers play female characters than vice-versa. At least in MMOs. Dunno for sure if that carries over to single-player, where the whole "guys treat me better and give me stuff if I'm hot" motivation doesn't apply

Yes, because it is an "evil" human noble who is stealing the women from the wedding. If you play as a female, then you get taken to essentially be raped along with the other women nearby. If you are a man, I assume you get knocked out and then have to go rescue the women that were at the wedding.

That would be a huge breaking of immersion.

It's not female elves it's you (or your fiance' respectively) that one human wants, the local lord. From the descriptions I've seen his motivations aren't clear but it does seem pretty clear that the female elf in particular is what he's after. Maybe I'm wrong but thats the impression I've gotten.

I'm generally extremely wary about gender-based differences because often they mean the female is harassed or complimented for her "beauty" while the male gets compliments for his skill and brawn, and I loathe that. I want my gals to be complimented for kicking arse too!
Well, at the least you may wish to avoid the city elf one. Not that anyone will doubt you're an ass-kicker by the end of it.
*spoiler*
although I do think the female run through is preferable as a city elf. Much more impact, since you're the one in danger of being raped, and rescuing yourself is more interesting than standard damsel in distress. Besides, who doesn't want to go on a rampage wearing a bloody wedding dress?

He kidnaps most of the young attractive women at the wedding actually, not just you, or your fiance if you play as a man.

You did mention an evil human noble kidnapped the lot. And we know "evil" men can have very unusual hobby. *shrug*
Maybe he round up all the male elfs if you are playing a male?

To rape them.
Why do you think the humans wouldn't want a male elf for that?

This is correct. Society forcuses on rape as a crime of passion, but there's ample evidence of it happening without desire. The majority of people who assult child or the elderly don't find them sexy, they just really enjoy hurting someone so powerless.
Imagine there's a human noble that hates elves. He heads to the alienage, finds the biggest, strongest elven male, and then brings that elf to his estate to torture and violate.
The human noble doesn't have to find that elf attractive; he just has to enjoy the utter power he has over the elves.
