I wish to know how to get the script to report that the quest has been completed in the plots editor

This is done in the plot editor. Set the Final column to Yes for the plot flag(s) that finish the quest. When the flag is set in conversation (or WR_SetPlotFlag in a script), the journal will show the quest as complete.
