Am I the only one who HOPES they "Mass Effectify" Dragon Age 2?

And yes "dice rolls" got into whether or not you actually crit, hit normally, glanced, whiffed, etc But you still had to pull off the combos and hit the target.
For melee, anyway.
Ranged attacks used the combo system but were auto-aimed (as long as the target was in your line of sight) and magic didn't use combos at all.

Dragon Age, on the other hand, is a real RPG. I like smaller side quests and travelling between areas and exploring. That's a big part of what makes a game an RPG for me. Not just options in dialogues, but choices of where to go when. The more open the world, the more the RPG, basically. A "real" RPG needs all of those things.
DA is a great game, and so is ME2, but they are quite different games. Keep DA more like a tradition RPG. I don't want DA2 to be a mass effect-game in a fantasy setting.

The setting - and to a lesser extent, themes - reminds me a lot of Babylon 5.
Again, it's not like fiction is written in a vacuum.

For me, ME1 was an RPG. ME2 is less of an RPG. I like managing equipment. Not necessarily the inventory part, but using items for aid, upgrading weapons, choosing between lots of different armors, etc. ME2 is still an RPG, just ... less, since it doesn't have that aspect of the game.

Couldnt have put it better myself. Thats why I love DA more than ME. I mean I loved rumaging through all my weapons and armor and biotics in ME1 and DA:O. Then figuring out what to sell at shops and what new/better gear was avaliable in shops.
And just exploring in both Origins and ME1.
Those things werent present in ME2 which I was disapointed with. I mean dont get me wrong ME2 is a great game but it just didnt have that RPG feel to me like the first did. Which is why I love Origins. I just want them to keep those thing in DA2. I dont want them to do what they did from ME1 to ME2. I would be throughly disapointed in them cause Origins harkens back to the days of old school RPGs which I loved back in the day.
Sorry rant over now just wanted to get that off my chest.

Exactly the same, did no one else get the underlying plot device that Shepard would be euthenized one he reached 30 years old?

My point about B5 was mostly to compare stuff like...
Jumpgates > Mass relays
Babylon stations > Citadel
Rangers (at least by the end of the show's canon) > Spectres
Telepaths > Biotics (kinda, this is probly the weakest one. Really different sociopolitical implications)
Sheridan > Shepard (there's no Mass Effect equivalent of Sinclair - talk about a unique arc in fiction)
Even then, the similarities are mostly superficial.

I haven't read the book, the film most certainly does not take place in space, and there are a couple of other tales from mankind that take place in space.........

[I felt the need to link it because he's sort of what they are marketing for, he views Mass Effect 2 as the best thing since sliced bread (comparing it to Dragon Age) while he can't even be bothered to get past Ostagar before saying the game was a waste of money and such.
Bioware are marketing their games for morons? Not these generalisations again *sigh*
I didn't mean that, it's 5-am and I'm extremely confused. >.<
It's just that.. this guy here is what I hate. He happens to also be getting everything and more that he wants for DA2. I can't voice it correctly but.. yeah. I facepalmed at it.
well it makes sense, that guy represent he majority, he want quick responsive action, instant gratification, cinematic events, voice acting, he dont especially want a rpg. The new fans were attracted to dragon age with the gore trailers and mailyn Manson "this is the new **** " stuff ...Now logically bioware try to cater more to the new crowd they attracted, not the guys who liked old games where "it took ages to go anywhere and had to eat food"(mass effect 2 in game quote).
.What i am expecting next from bioware is a dragon age facebook game, one with microtransactions, those games requires a much lesser budget, cater to many more people and pay much more than a 3D fully voiced "next gen" game, its all win for them. They jumped from traditional pc rpg to console action/rpg to get even better sales then the next step are the social browser games.

Ok then I want a shooter with as much dialogue, choices, romances, interesting companions etc. as Dragon Age (or even more). I´m really not in the mood to argue semantics. For me such a shooter would be a better RPG than all you named, for you it would be a Shooter, that´s fine. I just want such a game, I couldn´t care less how the Genre is called.
YAY!
Especially if the genre label doesn't matter, now you know better how to tell people what it is you want! I'm happy for you!
I think what you are looking for sounds very cool, and I think some games get close (VTM-B, ME1&2) -
perhaps you should try Westwood's Blade Runner. Yes, it's an older game, and yes, to call it a shooter is really a stretch - but the few times in the game (mostly the firing range) you use the gun, you are in control and not a bunch of stats. You don't have levels, you don't gain abilities - but the story and it's outcome are directly dependant on your choices, you control your character's personality and how he responds to people, you control who your allies and enemies are - there are even a few pseudo-romances (3 options, I believe, though they don't go very far, and technically one is probably an underage girl so to call that one a "romance" might be a bit sleezy)...
I will agree that they haven't yet made EXACTLY what it is you want, but I really do believe that you are looking in the wrong place with cRPGs. I think you are the one who said you hated Bioshock, but that's getting closer to what you want than anything really. Anything save one game I can think of -
You want a FPS game engine, but you want a good story and you want dialog choices, interesting characters to interact with, and romances. Again, if you haven't played it, and you can handle it being World of Darkness (and your character having stats and leveling) I tell you that Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines is pretty close to what you want. Half-Life 2 engine. Dialog with choices. Interesting story and characters. Mutliple outcomes. You pick which factions you ally with. Try it.

There's also the SIlent Storm series. Laser Squad.
I actually find this far more fun than the most enjoyable experiences I've ever had with a FPS.

Oooh, thanks for telling me what I want. I mean, it's not as if I've already posted a few times on this thread that roleplaying only makes sense when done by accepted, professional methods of fictive conventions, and how clunky RPG exposition mechanics look ineffective and amateur in comparison.
