Even with vellium in my inventory, all they want from me are runes.

Edit:  Checked your link, and you're the one who mentioned mages using vellium by asking if they did since it's listed on the "Other" tab.

Mages only want Master Runes, nothing else. Dwarves want gems. Elves want herbs. Humans will go for the universal, cash.

I think it's the residue of some cancelled ingame feature, most likely scroll-making.
