What lies beyond?

I would imagine that there are many people who are no solely interested in AD&D who will probably be drawn away by other releases which are more contemporary, which will account for a decrease in the community.
I have noticed several posts discussing the decline of the community. Is this the first time this has been discussed?

Tired of having to obey the rules of other campaigns, I created two planetoids in the Toril system that are too far out and orbiting oddly to have been found yet. One has two continents. It was found by Shou Lung Traders and is an entirely oriental world. The other has one large continent and three island chains. The continent used to have one kingdom where dwarves, elves, gnomes and halflings ruled together. Some humans crash land in a spelljammer and have to figure out how to get off the planetoid.
And lastly, I have a campaign set in Faerun 10,000 years in the future. After the spellplague secret societies formed to combat magic through science. They created fearsome weapons, including biological weapons that would attack only certain species. The cults were wiped out first, then any magic-users who revealed themselves. Finally, they built ships and went after the gods themselves. Toril is now a wasteland with very few survivers and some modern technology. All the old dungeons are gone. It's a totally unexplored world.

The giant HMC2 wore me out. I want to finish the three smallest Ravenloft modules (Night of the Walking Dead, Touch of Death and The Created), the three giant modules (G1-3) and end making modules in my GWC game world and start over fresh.
I have played a few ravenloft modules and loved them all... I love ravenloft.

FYI. I have some spelljamemr stuff completed already (not a lot) Star terrain textures and skybox, and 3 spelljammer ships, Illithid dreadnaught, Neogi death spider and the Elf Arrowing.
And I just played Spelljammer: Pirates of Realmspace and would consider converting it (expanding the ground quests) and my four other SJ modules if there were models to work with. I only need one to do the crashing module. Its likeliest they would be on an Arrowing though normal ships can also function as spelljammers. Hope you plan on nautiloids. They showed up a lot in SJ:PIRS. And the Dragonfly and an elven vessel that looks like a butterfly. The rest were normal ships. Except the Mind Spider and Hive ship. Too bad boarding sucked.FYI. As for things dying, I think it's more likely that game companies will no longer produce games like BG/NWN simply because they are not easily manufactured cash cows. I think the toolsets are a hint that the community is on its own, making these games very valuable indeed.

Seems like there was a slow period for a month or two over the summer when there weren't as many releases. Now things are started to speed up. I really like the versatility of NW2 toolset and the custom content. I would like to release one more module and now that I have one done I think I could get it out a lot faster. I enjoyed modding so much I never finished NW2 or MOTB so may take a break and finish those off.
This is actually quite normal. There are ebs and flows with module developing and times of the year affect that. Christmas is another slow time, but you might see more projects start up because of school breaks after the holiday. Despite what naysayers are naysaying about NWN2, it is coming into it's own and there are MAJOR improvements happening by the community.
Baron and Hellfire of RWS just discovered a new ability for transparent models that will allow glass and crystal effects that was previously thought impossible in NWN2. Waiting for all sorts of glass critters and crystal tilesets from them. Skywing keeps making things that people say, can't be done...his Client Extension alone has changed the online community forever. Brian Meyer keeps making huge improvements to the game in ways that I barely understand, and this is just 4 people in the community.
NWN2 has a lot more to come...maybe not from official sources, but the community is just getting started.

There are still plenty of things going on in the Community and it is slower during the June and July time frames. It's also usually pretty slow around November/December/January -- the prime holiday season. The rest of the time it's pretty much a variable flow.
Other noteable names include ArtEChoke, Kaedrin, Reeron, Trekari, Qk, _Knightmare_ (who seems to be bending the scripting to his will to make a completely different game experience in the NWN2 environment,) Amadrammelac also has managed some feats of scripting with the Book of Nine Swords addition.
There's more stuff going on than that. I just can't remember all the names and I can't give proper credit to half the people I already did mention. As well as others already named in other posts.
And did I mention, I'm making Sticks and Stones, so there~! (it's the simple things, ya know.)
best regards,

Now there's that community project idea that's been floating around, so I might look into that as well.
Harumph!
