I hadn't really twigged this until Kamal mentioned it on his blog but yeah this is a good idea - for the players as much as builders, and to keep the flow / visibility of the projects on the vault. A general strategy to get NWN2 owners back into the habit of checking the vault and away from the lure of DA would be good but short on ideas there

Not to plant too much of a flag in the sand, but as it';s a bank holiday weekend in the UK coming up, it was my intention to release LoWPM on Monday (barring anything horrific in testing). How does that suit the rest of you guys with projects in the offing?

I'm assuming my blog post caused this thread since I see you commented there.

Given the scope of my campaign, even though it's complete I'm going to want a good amount of playtest time, to catch remaining bugs and to get balance right because of it's openness. People should be enjoying the recent releases like TMGS, Wizards Apprentice, Alcheringa and LoWPM (even though it's technically not quite out). Once people have had some time to enjoy those, then I will publicly ask for testers.

@Kamalpoe: Your blog was one of the reason I been thinking of this.

@Wyrin. 30th sounds great, looking forward to playing.

What amount of time do you feel is an appropiate amount between releases?

The time thing is more of a recommendation, the intent is not to force a builder to dely release against their wishes. After spending 1,2 or 3 years building waiting a week or 2 could definately be a hardship.

Risen Hero will likely be ready within a weeks time. Providing there are no strong objections I would like to release after Wyrin.

How about like summer blockbuster movies, at least 2 weeks between them?

While I've spent much time fixing bugs in my campaign, I know there are more but probably not too many major ones. Like White Plume Mountain, I have an overland map, and that needs extra time and sets of eyes to get the balancing. So given the size and balancing, I don't want to claim a date but more of a "when it's done" and "I promise I won't step on anyone else's date". I'd planned to announce a request for testers two weeks after WPM release.

Let's not forget Dorateen's module. IIRC, she was aiming for 08/30.

Edinmoor

Thanks... Yes, I am doing a final playthrough, which might take me through the weekend to complete. As soon as I finish, I am going to release to the Vault. Maybe by 8/30 or else later next week.

Although given Wyrin's projected release, the latter part would probably be better for me anyway.

Harumph!

(Ahem, he was aiming for 8/30)

And I believe Dorateen is male, just fyi.

This is a really solid and great idea. I agree, at least two weeks between releases sounds good, but I would add the caveat that, if module scope is not great, or the type of module (ie: heavy story or total Hack'n'Slash) we could see having more than one release in the same time frame in order to present a wider view and wider overall audience appeal in the player base. Sort of like the Summer Blockbuster concept where you've got Action, Comedy and Horror all out at the same time, but not too many of the same kind at once.

Great idea!

Messages have been sent to Equintir and Knightmare for their upcoming mods.

I will continue to update the list on the first post as information comes in and changes.

I'm not in the "Fall 2010" release schedule (maybe "Winter 2010/11" if I'm lucky). Stick me at the end of any schedule that comes from here with an unconfirmed release date.

I agree to the whole concept of having staggered release dates (and agree with DNO's caveat of module types as well).

I also suggest this as a sticky topic so that the listing doesn't get lost.

Baldur's Gate? I have no idea of the timetable for that.

This is a great idea! I second the two weeks idea and DNO's suggestion seems like a good one.

And, sadly, I cannot give a good estimate for my project. 2011 is the best I can offer. :/

@Shaughn78

Hey, nice idea. I appreciate the extra visibility so people can find the new modules even if they don't visit the vault regularly.  It also seems like a good idea to organize new releases to allow everyone to get some time on the new release list.

Wow...so many good releases coming up.  I can't wait! Now to find the time....

Yeah, thought so. The opposite would have been one of the great NWN2 community revelations of the season. ;)

Good initiative to plan the releases.

I think this is a great idea. Longer term release dates are always going to be difficult as, if you are like me, these things are hard to predict. The general principle holds though giving approximate dates in the first instance and firming these up as you close on releasing the module (it gives players a good idea whats coming too). We are modding for a declining audience and competing for play time with other games, why make it harder on ourselves by competing with other releases.

Sticking the thread is a good plan too, there seem to be a few silent modders out there. I would be good to draw them out of the woodwork too. Though perhaps unsticky this one, which is becoming more of a discussion thread and start a new one which is focused on the relevant information. Is it possible to do this monthly so the list is kept fresh (is that even nessesary)

Maybe in someway this could also be extended to play testing as well i.e. staggering the load on play testers?

My next release The Last Days of the Raven in going to be Q1 2011 at the moment with play testing around Christmas, so I guess _knightmares_ and my project will be seeking play test at the same time. I think that is going to translate to me not getting any Posted Image.

Cheers,

PJ

Does nobody read my blog (he asked knowing the answer). I talked about this way long ago when trinity came out and bouncy rock bounced all over it a week later. After everyone waited like 3 years with campaigns coming out maybe twice annually there should defintiely be some stagger. I can be end of september.

FYI my game is ready now voice acting is slow though ;)

Should have some VO stuff for you this week Eg. Sorry, but all's well that ends well. Hope you like it.

We can keep this thread sticked -- after all, the Title Post is going to get edited to reflect current status of releases, so the rest can just be filler folks can read as they wait for their anticipated modules to come out.

I'll stagger my release of Jabberwocky, but there's no way I can give you a date. When it's done at this point, but I will look at what's coming when I'm close to release. I plan to do some beta testing so that will be the precursor to look for.

As the unofficial Keeper of Lists (though Stanley Woo did sticky my 3 NWN1 Lists, so maybe THEY are official), I can tell you in 2009 there were 55 English-speaking and 11 International NWN2 modules, or one every 6.6 days for English-speaking, one every 33 days for International.

So far this year we have 44 English-speaking and 4 International NWN2 modules in 8 months. So the next 4 months should produce 22 more English-speaking and 2 more International modules in the next 122 days (123 if you count today) which is 17.7 weeks. You aren't going to be able to stagger 22 modules 2 weeks apart over 18 weeks.

I'm taking a break so don't know when I'll be rested enough to finish Chapter 2 of Icewind Dale. I started modding A Raucous Caucus on 10 August 2004. I've completed six whole years and am starting my seventh. I'm tired. I need to play other things for awhile.

Some mods are bigger than others, though. If two short things come out at once, however good they are, people will still be able to play them both within a short space of time. If two major releases hit at once, one might trample the other, or they might end up sharing the limelight. Not that big an issue I guess, but everyone likes to have their own 15 minutes of fame, so to speak.

Not that I'm trying to belittle "minor" mods, at all, but there *is* a difference between ones which come out every 6.6 days and the rare major projects full of new features and stuff made by people who advertise them and things. Really it's more down to size and major content features rather than raw quality, because a top-notch but very short mod is not going to fill up loads of people's play time for a long time so is less likely to hamper something else.

Many mods come out without advertising themselves beforehand. We can't plan around things we don't know about.
