I think Bethany is a lesbian why else would she be your sister. lol
That makes no sense. You can be female.

And how does that even matter in the story? She's not romanceable, (thank God for Bioware's stand against incest) so that has not real reason for happening.

I rather like the idea that she may even have a past that affects her attitude to romance, having been an apostate.

Reguardless, I think Bethany is there to stay at least up until Chantry/Templar heavy involvement. And either way, it will be our choices that cause her to leave/become lost to us rather than a sudden death or capture.

And if Hawke is an apostate female mage herself? An interesting situation and definitely my first playthrough.Odin2040 wrote...
Maybe that's one of the plot drivers in DA2. Side with the Mages (and protect your sister from evil templars) or side with the Templars and kill your own sister in glorious battle! Hey, it would be morally challenging, right? And isn't that what these games are about?

What about siding with the rogue Templars affiliated to the Mages Collective to overthrow the Chantry's oppression?

It could be she's just a Lothering companion for warrior and rogue Hawkes and mage Hawkes get the brother (what's his name?). Like when one of the tower guards that joined you in Ostagar was a mage if the PC wasn't one already.
I just get strong "starting companions" vibes from everyone you meet as early as Lothering. Like origin companions and Jory + Daveth were in DAO.

I must digress. Perhaps they are a sign of her nurturing potent. Perhaps that foreshadows a Spirit Healer class for her. Their mother is also quite so endowed; a mother is nurturing. Perhaps the creators are drawing attention to that location to foreshadow something important. The important details would be lost to perverts further making the foreshadow more vague. We know the writers like to be more vague. Have I said enough to ruin the mood of a pervert yet? I don't know. We shall find out if they read this instead of being visually hypnotised.

Maybe Bethany's role isn't quite as big.

I know what you are saying, but I can't see them treading old ground so soon, in BG2 we had all the characters from the start available throughout, Imoen, Jaheira, the Hamster Chap even the Samurai Fellow, who turned on us.

A happy family of apostates and abominations on the run, oh my!
But seriously, I think it will be really interesting to play that scenario.

Regarding Bethany's status as an apostate, do we know if she was ever with the circle and escaped or has she always managed to avoid their control?.
I don't think it's been brought up yet. But it is a nice excuse to either fight tempelars or turn her over later in the game.

I'm quite interested in how the sibling dynamic will work in regard to interaction with other party members.
Varric: Hey sweet stuff, you fancy coming back to my place for a little something to eat?
Hawke: Remember who you are talking to, keep that up and I'll have you stripped, shaved, painted pink and put on a leash with a little bell.
If this was between Bethany and a Lady Hawke...
Hawke: Don't get close to my dwarf you beyotch, or I'm forced to
Varric: *grins*
NOTE: I can't believe I'm not already sick of my own joke, it's like the 4th time I've posted this on the Biowared DA2 forums
