It is possible to 'lock' the camera in place in ME1 if you turn off the HUD while on the powers screen. You use the 'over the shoulder' camera to find an angle, then freeze the game with the power wheel and hit NoHUD and the camera will lock in that position but allow you to move around without the camera. It's a bit of a hassle at first and not very practical in comat but for simple character movement it does the trick. Unfortunately, it doesn't work in ME2.
Ya, I don't think I'd go back and redo ME1, even though I've learned alot since then. That was more of a bored stoner fluke done in a weekend kind of thing. In ME2 I'd have loved it no matter how difficult it was. I could have made it TV worthy. sigh.

To speed things up, you could tighten up the editing. For example, show the end of a conversation, WHILE you are showing the normandy go through another mass relay. Instead of showing the conversation THEN the mass relay footage.
Also, the speed of things. To move things along, you can cut down some scenes to just a couple seconds.
Overall, I am very impressed though!!
I just watched some more of part 10. And it made me think of somehting else.
You used some sort of fade out transition between scenes. That sort of transition seems to sort of signafy that some time is being skipped. I'm not sure why, but it is a form of movie making short hand, I guess, just like the diagonal wipe effects used in the star wars movies.
You are doing a very thorough job of showing everything, but, in battle sequences, skipping forward a bunch takes any urgency out of the battle. I'd say to cut out most encounters and just show a few guys getting blown away here and there if there is no dialogue along the way.
Did you take Legion on Tali's loyalty mission? I hope so!

My biggest complaint is pacing. A game is paced way slower than a tv show or movie. So it gets tedious to watch some of these scenes that might be fine in a game.

I did take all the characters and make episodes of their side mish's, but unfortunately most of them didn't go into the movie and are destined to remain in my private collection. There's 42 total episodes. 18 are the movie and are going to be posted. That's not including the five versions of the ending I had trouble deciding on, one with the giant reaper battle, one with just a run from the explosion in the end, one where they all die, one everybody lives, and the one I ended up choosing which you'll see.

I just had a thought. I wonder if this would have worked better as a mini-series... sort of like Star Trek or "the clone wars" with a different mission or two in every episode?
Maybe that is why part 8 worked out so well...
Once the PS3 players all start getting into ME2, I would not be surprised if a lot of them were interested in watching your movie of ME1

Oh yeah, I could tighten it up, they always bug me after awhile, but I can guarantee these movies got exactly the amount of time and effort that I'd be willing to devote to a free project. What you see there was super quick, fun and easy to make for anyone with Fraps and WMM. I fully belive with access to the souce engine and the voice actors this could be made into an actual tv mini series way better than that stupid Red Dead Redemption movie. My focus is mainly explosions and coolness. Half that dialogue would be cut out. I consider this more an homage to the most awesome game ever made and tried to show how fun and frantic it was to play.

I considered making this more like that with fake Mass Effect commercial breaks. There's more than a few cool radio commercials in the game. But that's just too much effort. I get bored with things easily.

Even so, this must have taken a LONG time!

4 days, playtime included. I'm fairly efficient. That does NOT however count fricken upload time. I live in Atlanta and there seems to be a storm somewhere at all times that screws with my dsl and makes me redo uploads. It's very frustrating. I can download 200mb in a couple of minutes but a 200mb upload to youtube takes over an hour.Graz73 wrote...
I can totally respect that you have limited time to devote to it.

one with commercial breaks, one from Tali's perspective, or whatever. Just to keep it fresh for you...

Boredom is the absolute deciding factor. I've been switching from ME to Star Wars to break things up. And on a side note, I discussed this on another thread where someone had remade the latest trilogy taking out all of Jar Jars dialogue and replacing it with a strange alien language and subtitles. I saw it a few years ago and then it dissappeared. I'm trying to recreate that. In that version Jar Jar was actually a bad ass thief and all his little goofy slapstick crap was removed. The problem I'm having if anyone can help (off topic) is taking his dialogue out without muting because I'd then have to put the music back in over it. Without access to the layered audio tracks the best I've been able to do is just incorperate his existing voice into a computer enhanced version of Aqualish with cuts of it I've gathered. Any ideas or programs specifically designed to extract all the audio layers intact?

It really is fun. Anyone can do it. Join the ME Filmakers discussion group here and they have all the mods and tools you need, besides like I said Fraps and WMM.

Have you tried the advanced uploader? It supports resumable uploads.

That's pretty much impossible. Once they're rendered together, you can't seperate them. It's like trying to make a poor quality video look high quality; you just can't do it without hiding things. When I want to quieten background noise or make one sound stand out, I use Adobe Soundbooth since it has a 'heal' function. But a lot of the times, it doesn't work without completely stripping the quality out of the audio. On occasion it'll work miracles, but then on others it'll disappoint.GifMike wrote...

I suppose I should, I see the link there to download it. I just never considered myself an advanced uploader. I didn't plan on this movie being so big. With the first one I tried for an hour and a half and ended up with 2hrs bare bones. This one I figured, Ok shoot for 2 hrs. I just kept hearing peoples complaints that I didn't let the ME1 movie breathe so I let this one go like a fat man on steps. And ended up with a little over three.

That's pretty much what I thought. I can cover it up for the most part. The Aqualish bytes are all extracted from the base Kotor games. It's so almost right.

Rodian works great if I slow it down to make it deeper.
