Haer'Dalis

This eccentric thiefling provides endless amount of sufficiently off-the-wall dialogue, has equally unusual philosophy and comes with an exceptionally good voice actor to boot. Very good portrayal of a chaotic neutral character. Also, blades are absurd amounts of fun to have around if you bother to set em up properly!

Haer'Dalis no 1.

Edwin no 2.

no competition there.

Third place is tough: Anomen and Jan banterwise together..I kind of learned to like Anomen as a char in the end. I did like his romance very much really although I would have liked some disgustingly sweet yak! stuff.

I do like Keldorn as well and Sarevok. That's it. I can't make this decision.

Nalia, Mazzy and Aerie all drive me insane.

BG1. 1. Kivan, 2. Coran.

I like Saerileth and Tyris Flare, both mods I know, but such different characters from the norm.

I'd have to pick Aerie. I've played all the romances (and enjoyed them all), but now when I run through the game, I find myself always going with Aerie as my PC's partner. Her spell selection is awesome (I tend to cheat and bump her INT up to 18 so she can learn more/more powerful spells), and I really don't pay much attention to her whining about her wings (which is over fairly quickly anyway). I find her goody-goody behavior more annoying actually, especially when my PC is, shall we say, a little on the shady side.

I voted for Jan because he's just fun to have around, but honourable mention goes to Viconia for having such a strong character, and Yoshimo for an interesting plotline.

Minsc on top, not just for BG2, but for any game. Jaheira close second, while third place is probably for Viconia (especially romanced), but I also like Keldorn, even if he's a bit too classic Paladin. I'm playing with Nalia and Haer'Dalis for first time and for now I'm really enjoying them.

I can't stand Anomen (I have tried), Edwin (his arrogance becomes a bit tedious), Valygar (too plain) and Cernd (too dull).

Jan Jansen gets a mention as well for making me chuckle quite many times as well. Golems are suckers for milk after all!

Aw, I just had to vote for Valygar 'cause he had no votes. None! Poor fella.

(Besides, I find him very likeable. Strong, silent type: so much unrealised potential. It would've been great if David Gaider's romance for him had made it into the game.)

My absolute favourite character would have to be Viconia, of course. Very compelling, believable. Strong backstory, intense dialogue. A lot of tension and emotion in the romance. Plus, she's sexy.

Other characters I've got soft spots for: Mazzy, Jaheira, Jan, Haer'Dalis, and Yoshimo.

Anomen is a prat, it's true, but some of his dialogue is excellent. Particularly his confrontation with his father. Great stuff.

Minsc. Always Minsc. Though god, I loved a lot of the cast of BG2. In fact, it'd be easier for me to list the characters I dislike: Aerie. I can't dislike Anomen, he's too full of lulz. He's my punching bag. Or my garden flamingo.

Viconia; she has the best storyline, and is the strongest cleric in the game if you take her early, and it's nice to use undead against other undead.

BG1: Kivan - He actually feels like a ranger to me. Minsc and Valygar are nice NPC's but somehow don't fit my expectations of what ranger's should be like.

Edwin: He is an arrogant, delusional, nasty, selfish jerk. You wouldn't want to know him IRL, but as a BG NPC? Yes please! He really is hilarious at times. Edwin is far funnier than Minsc IMO as he is not so one-dimensional.

Alora: Has a pleasant soundset. She can lighten the mod in any party (especially useful if Xan is around).

Xzar: One of the NPC's that really benefits from the BG1 NPC project. The most evil controllable NPC in the series. Really is disturblingly entertaining.

Dislike: Ajantis - He is too small-minded, a bit dumb.

The rest of the Bg1 NPC's are all likeable enough to me.

BG2:

Korgan: Comes out with some brilliant insults to the good aligned NPC's. Very amusing. I find myself hestitating to say this about such an evil character, but I find him quite likeable.

Edwin: See above.

Mazzy: Courageous, trustworthy, a leader.

Valygar: It's a great idea to have him with Mazzy in the same party. It brings his personality out a bit. But he is just really likeable in general. His story involving Lavok and his family and whether those who have commited great acts of evil can actually change and truly regret their action is quite interesting.

Aerie: Develops from an traumatised, insecure girl alone in a strange world, into a strong minded force for good. I also like her voice acting. I think it suits the character perfectly.

If only one would meet her much sooner in the game... :crying:

Minsc. Because my real life would be better with Minsc watching my back.

Oh by the way. We're discussing our favourite characters on a game that's more than a decade alone. Most books, films, and TV series don't have that sort of resonance.. Awesome work designers - has any game ever matched the Gate and sequels ?

Whining Aerie is probably now days the last character I would choose even with consequence.

Viconia seems rather good (used to use Branwen she was my favorite character kinda evil **** like my wife).

Minsc humor flow out with BG1 gonna be testing 'Mazzy' today since no Khalid on party.

Honestly just started playing with 'Happy' mod as otherwise there's break down for ideal crew which I've always wondered why Bioware did make the obvious crew so stupid compared to baldur's gate 1 selection. Currently best I can do is 'Minsc', 'Mazzy', 'Jaheira'(If she only would be clean druid), 'Viconia', 'Nalia', 'Main character'.

bwahha Viconia, she pretty much gets into a fight with anyone, yet never causes any "make her leave or im out of here" situations.
and i don't think she leaves when ur reputation goes massively high.

Minsc's voicing and personality grate on me if he's in my party for very long. In BG1 he's a powergaming beast, though and he's not a complete buffoon like in bg2. I feel like they ruined his character by leaving too little to the imagination in the sequel. HI IM MINSC LOOK AT ME AND MY TALKING SWORD, I CALL HIM LARRY ISN'T THAT SO FUNNY, AHAHAH LOOK AT ME I'M MINSC I HAVE A HAMSTER TOO.

Jaheira is probably my favorite npc. I like her more in bg1 than bg2, though, especially her soundset and portrait.

I like Anomen and Nalia. Both have more depth than is first apparent and I find them hilarious at times. I've never done Anomen's romance.

Valgyar is the most boring character I've used. From his background to his voicing to his banter.

Imoen and Mazzy are pretty boring as well. The designers should have been courageous and killed Imoen in spellhold.

In the original vanilla BG2 Viconia will leave if the party rep hits 19 or 20. But you can always install the Happy Party mod to make it like ToB, where no one quits you. Even simpler, turn into the Slayer and lower your Rep whenever it threatens to become angelic Posted Image and then you can hang on to Vicky or Edwin or Korgan.
