Hopefully the happy patch just works as I don't mind really characters being on their others throats (hell, I would choose that before Aerie mood swings any day).

As for 'voice acting' heck I'd wish I could take the left tunnel (where the dragon is) at hell. There's an demon(tan'nari) giving this 'speech' to me now that is one of the best speeches ever. ;)

I'd say Aerie, I romanced her in my first playthrough, and she must be the first adorable character bioware created

I like Nalia the most in BG2, BG1 it would be one tough pick.

Top Favorite(s) and Bottom 3 (There are a lot of NPCs I've not even bothered to play, e.g. Evil alignment; but here goes for what it's worth. Wow, this is an old thread.

Top 3:
1) Keldorn - Paladin's are my favorite class
2) Jaheira - Like the druid spells plus she's a cutie - A little high maintenace but so is my wife.
3) Anomen - Goin' against the grain but like the Paladin/LG Cleric mix w/Keldorn

Bottom 3:
1) Imoen - I like to stick to the storyline - I wish she wasn't in it. Especially in BGII cause I keep feeling like I need to rescue her when I'd prefer to keep adventuring
2) Minsc - Ditto on the storyline.
3) Dynahier - Love the fact that she's LG, but she bites as a mage w/o mods.

Honorable mention:
1) Kivan - I'd take him over Minsc as a Range ranyday.
2) Valygar - Ditto Ranger/Stalker
3) Yoshimo - If you gotta have a thief, he's the dude!

Viconia, since her story is so well written and she is the strongest cleric in the game, which comes in handy in parts of ToB. Since I usually play CG, keeping her happy makes for an interesting challenge.

If she could actually blow up undead and cast Holy Smite, I'd agree.

Ahh! But sometimes it's even more useful to take advantage of her ability to use the weaker undead to attack and distract the stronger undead. All of a sudden you have 15+ party members instead of a maximum of 11 (6+5 summons). Someone like Anomen will quickly kill off the weaker undead, but you still have the principle undead opposition to deal with. Using Viconia at the first battle at the Temple of Mir is almost as much fun as Wishing in 20 fuzzy bunny rabbit allies, distributing them among your enemies and then hitting them with delayed blast fireballs or worse. The problem is that there's a limit on the number of undead that she can control. So if the party suddenly gets swarmed by a horde of annoying undead like Shadow Fiends, she will at most control 5 while the rest will still be able to inflict their annoying effects on some party members.

Good-aligned clerics simply blow everything up nice and clean.

I'm not sure of this, but I think an evil cleric can control undead 2 levels higher than a good cleric (of the same level) can slay them. Of course the good cleric will be Turning the 2 level higher undead, but it's still a matter of having a max party size of 6+5 versus 6+10. With all the advanatages Good has over Evil in BG2/ToB, it's nice that there's one little area where Evil has an edge.

One problem with having Viconia in an otherwise good party is that she also turns paladins. It is really funny to see Keldorn or Mazzy (if modded) runnning away from Viconia! Less funny if there are a bunch of vampires bearing down on the party though. However, I'm sure that Vic would LOL heartily regardless :)

#1 - Jaheira: Strong, determined, loyal. Imoen aside, she loses and sacrifices more than anyone else to stick with the protagonist. Aside from the fact that I love strong women, I also love loyal friends and you can't ask for anyone better. She got my vote.

#2 - Keldorn: He became my character's second confidant and anchor after Jaheira. Yeah, I felt kind of crappy taking him away from his family, but he's useful and duty-bound and willing, so ...

And then, I can't decide. I'd like to say Imoen is #3 because she's family, but her nonexistent banter in SoA makes her a bit of a nonentity except for a few words at certain plot-points. Minsc is Minsc, nuff said. And with Dynaheir gone in BG2, someone has to look out for the big lug. Yoshimo is a tragic figure especially if you didn't even kill Tamoko, I'd always bring him for plot reason (and to fill the rogue spot). Finally, I like Sarevok -- much to my surprise, as I was really pissed when they announced he'd be the new ToB companion. But he has some interesting conversations with my other favourites, and can be argued out of his selfish power-mad plans, so he ended up on my good side.

The ones I can't stand are all the evil ones (I only play do-gooders, so they turn my stomach), Jan (Shut. The. ****ing. Hell. Up.) and Anomen (self-absorbed wanker who has no clue what being a paladin means).

One of the most enjoyable aspect in BG2 is NPC interaction. Therefore I enjoy playing with the kind of companions that have the most amusing banters, romances and quests. Here's my top 5:

1) Definitely Jan Jansen! He's banters are so hilarious that those alone are a legitimate reason to have him in your party.

2) Haer'dalis. Great banters with Aerie, Jaheira and the PC. Really interesting personal story as well.

3) Jaheira. Purely because there is simply the most content included: most banters, romance, quests etc.

4) Korgan. He's rants and insults are always such a pleasure to listen.

5) Aerie. She is just so adorable.

Unfortunately Imoen doesn't have that many banters after she is rescued from Spellhold, otherwise the world definitely be on the top of my list.

Try the Banter Pack and IEP Banters.

These two mods add many more banters to all NPCs, including Imoen. The writing is very good and seamlessly blends in with the original game material.

Personally, I always liked Imoen, (especially if you take the banter mods, and the fixpack that restores her banter in ToB) She runs the road from being the cute kid sister to being a demigod who has spilled enough blood to fill a small lake. I never play a game without bringing her along. Incidentally, did anyone else notice that the majority of your party can be family? Sarevok, Imoen, Viconia, and Charname make for a fascinating, tragic, and brutally powerful little family. I always imagined some poor young lad coming to ask for permission to date Charname's half-drow daughter, and meeting glowing eyed uncle Sarevok, Drow-mommy, and hey, Both you and Imoen are advanced Bhaalspawn at that point, you might have glowing eyes too. :)

I also enjoy Jaheira, and Aerie for similar (if differently flavored) reasons. And Keldorn is awesome, I just feel terrible taking him away from his family.

off-topic: what fixpack does restore Imoen's TOB banter? I didn't finish SOA yet, but it would be nice to have a talking Imoen in TOB, once I get there someday.

1 Vicky. Exactly the right combination of strength and vulnerability. Plus she's one hell of a cleric.

2 Mazzy. The best good aligned character in the game. One of the very few good characters who's not a zealot. Idealistic, but tolerant.

3 Korgan Evil as hell, but he has a great sense of humor. Best dialogue in the game is when he threatens to spank Aerie. Everyone should at least once play a party with both Korgan and Mazzy included.

4 Jaheira For all the same reasons Korva gave,

Bottom 3:

1 You-know-who

2 Dynaheir. I hate pretentious NPC's

2 Ajantis aka Peanutbrain.

Thanks for pointing the way, I found it and luckily it says

Tweak Pack readme wrote...

Imoen ToB Dialogue Fix (jcompton)

This fixes about 15 places where Imoen had banter dialogue in ToB but
you couldn't see it because of a spelling error in the game. If the BG2 Fixpack is
installed, this component will be skipped as this fix is already included in
the Fixpack Core Fixes.

My (Kheltick's, Faihra's, Amniralda's) Imoen won't be silent in TOB, as I have the core fixes of the Fixpack installed.

And now that I've experienced the opening chapters of BG 2 with 3 PC's and at least some of the NPC's, I should voice my opinion to? Let me get back on it in another post.

*edited because I use posting as the preview pane, to check for grammar and spelling errors. I surely do miss a preview function in this site's software!

I think my favourite is Nalia, as she makes standing up for the less fortunate her prime goal in life, like I do myself. I don't think her noble background is such a hindrance, it adds a note of humour to the whole thing. I hope I have less of the arrogance she sometimes displays, but I do find sense and purpose where life doesn't give it a priori, in standing up for people who, like myself, are 'less fortunate'. Especially because my background is a fortunate one, as I grew up in a loving and caring family (they still are), I identify with Nalia. Only in my twenties did my illness make me a less fortunate one.

Second is Aerie: being handicapped and (after some whining) finding purpose in life is very appealing. It's a pity the romance is quite short. Still in chapter 2 she and my Blade Kheltick decided to get married, but right now they are in a kind of silent bethrotal. 'Aerie has nothing to say to you', how I hate that message from my fiancee, there just isn't anymore banter written by Bioware (until TOB, when she will get talking again, I am told).

Third is Keldorn, very dependable, both in combat and as a character. Though his wife can depend less on him than Charname can.

I have to agree about Nalia. Because Imoen spends so much time in the clink, she doesn't catch up as a mage until well into ToB. Nalia is an inferior thief, but first with potions and then with equipment it's easy to keep her Find Trap and Disarm Trap skills at 100/100 for most of SoA and ToB. And until you get a Bag of Holding it's nice to have a Str=14 mage who can carry a load of loot without slowing to a crawl. Obviously Edwin is a better mage and Jan a better thief, but not being into backstabbing and not wanting to have more than one evil character at a time in my party, I think Nalia is the best compromise. The evil "slot" is usually reserved for my 2nd choice, Viconia. She is the best cleric in the game, particularly when dealing with undead, and her romance is the best written.

Apparently I voted for Jaheira in this old poll, but I must say that as of now I like Nalia and Mazzy better than her.

Also, interestingly, Viconia and Nalia have the same voice actress.

I think my favorite BG 2 character is Minsc - BG 2 is a pretty serious game in a way (all the death), so it's nice to hear his exuberance, and his "unique" view on things (such as his view of the play you see at the playhouse), he can lighten the mood.

Nalia is a close second - she is rarely NOT in my good-aligned parties -- her "goody two shoes" doesn't bother me at all, since I'm like that. Viconia, if I would meet her in real life, would irritate me with the feigned seductions followed by insults. After the first time of this, it seem she is playing "games" with my emotions -- those kind of women I keep at arm's length in real life.

I have never fallen for Nalia, she was to naive for my liking. I have always liked Valygar because he looks cool, and because I like the Stalker kit. I like most of the good aligned characters, even Anomen.
