Uh..no, the children of Grey Wardens aren't born tainted.  That's been verified by the lead writer, David Gaider.  Quite some time ago, actually.

I actually agree with the unlikelyhood go Hawke being Duncan's child, but your reasoning is simply incorrect.

edit: also how old do you think duncan is? late 30s?  how old is Hawke when we see him? at earliest 20?

that means Duncan was raped as a teenageer by an older woman.

I wouldn't mind. It would piece together the 2 games at least a little bit. Right now they don't have a whole lot in common besides lothering.

Ducan has a very Ominous Apearnce he could be anything From Native american to 50% white/50% anything else

And his mother is white Making Him the perfect canidate father for any custom hawke who isn't asian

Hmm it is possible that Hawke is Duncans son or at least related to him. And iit would be an unexpected twist. Well till now lol maybe writers will me editing that part out as we speak lol. Darn DAO community figureing things out so quickly. But still we dont really have any decent screen shots to combine and try & determine if its True that would be ironic lol.

Even without the beard, I can totally see a resemblance between them. He may not be as dark as Duncan, but his mother is pale, so. It might also explain Pirate Lady - going to Rivain to find family or an heirloom or what have you. Definitely possible.

And black, I suppose. But that's otherwise a really good point. It would explain any differences between custom Hawke and Bethany as well, who I'm assuming looks the same no matter what. Hawke may take after Duncan rather than his mother, whereas Bethany may simply take after a father she and Hawke don't share.

Just out of curiosity, if Hawke were to end up being Duncan's son, would that change the way any of you roleplayed your character?

Well since Duncan is probaly a Run away dad and Hawke may not know him anyway, No
We still haven't seen duncans body BTW possible DA2 squaddie 
This would also add some more DImensions to his character if he just ran out on his family to help grey wardens

Well since Duncan is probaly a Run away dad and Hawke may not know him anyway, No

Not all children of Wardens carry the taint. Read The Calling. At least one didn't. Also, even if they did, that would be irrelevant if Hawke were born before Duncan partook in the Joining.

You cannot hold this as fact since I don't have the reference handy, but I came across a statement a long while ago stating that Duncan had only one child. The Calling does not specify if the child does not have a trace of the taint. They only hinted that the child may possibly not have been affected. That is not guarantee, and I don't hold that as high canon as Alistar's claim that all children will have the taint or Morrigan assuming that her dark ritual baby is guaranteed to have the taint. The archdemon wouldn't seek out the child if it was not the equivalent of a Grey Warden. Hawke is not a Grey Warden; he is not Duncan's son. I would be willing to place money on that.

That is not to say that I do believe other characters may have had influence in his life as a child. I doubt Duncan had any influence; in any, it would be minor.

I don't really need to debate beyond this matter on this post; because I am arrogant enough not to be disuaded from my points here. I freely admit that; but feel free to believe otherwise. It is your right; and I will support you believing what you choose to believe. Have fun with the rest of the debate everyone; I am moving on to another topic.

Yep, the children of Wardens are born untainted. I think it gets mentioned in one or two discussions late in the game - definitely during the conversation your Warden has with Morrigan over the Dark Ritual. She specifically states that the child will be untainted.

I tried using the Duncan unique shape in the Toolset and tried to make Hawke from the trailer and guess what?

It didn't look like him at all. So I don't think Duncan is Hawke's father. Besides, Grey Wardens become infertile after the Joining and Duncan was a bit too young when he joined.
