Lately I've been playing a lot of Alpha Protocol, not the greatest of games but there is one aspect that I do enjoy.  That's the timed responses; in the game when it's your characters turn to speak you only have a certain amount of time before the highlighted dialogue choice is spoken.  To me this was a good aspect that I wouldn't mind seeing in any further DA games.  For instance, let's say  Hawke is speaking to a Mage and a Templar, you have to choose who to side with but instead of being able to sit there and think about what you want to do, you have a few seconds to make your decision and live with it.

Obviously you can reload the game if you don't like the outcome but to me this would add a level of immersion into the game.  Like it or not, just an idea.

Bioware RPGs are about comversations and choices, and deep ones at that, not about who thinks fastest and has the best twitch reflexes. Coupled with the paraphrases from the dialogue wheel such a system, red fist icons or not, would plunge the convos into utter madness.

I'm not saying combine the new DA2 dialogue system with this idea but as a whole new separate system.  Let's face it, a lot of people complain about "realism" and this would add a level of realism to the game.  When talking to someone or you have to make a choice, you don't get to just sit there and wait and wait some more before replying (at least I don't).  As for Bioware's current marketing stating "think like a General" sometimes you need to make quick decisions without fulling knowing the outcome of your decisions and this would help add to that.  This isn't taking about a conversation or even choices, but making you think quickly on your feet.

Although i really like Alpha Protocol ( i know im weird ) i wouldn't like the timed response anwser in DA2. We are already getting a revamped Dialogue system with the use of the wheel we dont need another change

I think this is a situation where I'm okay with realism being sacrificed for the sake of character building. Although I wouldn't mind ME2-style interrupts, which I guess would be sort of like this.

I don't really see any advantage to a system like this. If people are just going to reload anyway, why not save them the hassle and give them time to think over their answers?

I would love to see something similar in DA2.  The paragon/renegade sequences were a nice touch despite being far and few between.

So would y'all be opposed to some mission complete screen detailing your xp earned, loot, and how many credits you earned. Maybe also a big score counter thing in the top right corner too!

The Paragon/Renegade interrupts were fun, but I don't think it'd work for DA2 because there is no Paragon or Renegade. Unless things could pop up with the little tone icons. Hmm, now that I think about it, a little "sarcasm" interrupt could be amusing.

Actually, in one sense, I wouldn't mind it. In the sense that you could be rewarded xp for completing a mission, and not always per-kill. It would be nice to be rewarded for finding a way to avoid combat. Instead, there's no advantage to it, as you miss out on the exp and loot. Obviously this wouldn't have to be a mission complete screen like in ME, but I would like to see at least that one aspect of what the mission complete screen represents.

Ugh, I couldn't stand the timed responses in Alpha Protocol. They just irked me I guess. I end up doing the "Professional" dialog 90% of the time because of it.

As for interrupts, I think there's something like them in DA2 already. I thought people mentioned something about having NPC's going off and mass slaughtering darkspawn during a conversation in the San Diego Comic Con demo. Some sort of action in dialogue thing.

I think interrupts could work if they were based on your persuasion/intimidation. Also they could have interrupts specific to classes...for example in DAO if you are a mage and you meet the bandits outside of Lothering you have the option to say, "Do you really want to fight a mage?" In DA2 this could be an interrupt if you can intimidate and instead you start to glow and form a fireball in your hand and all scary and glowing like Hawke says menacingly, "Do you really want to fight a mage?"

Also some interrupts in ME2 were just so funny, especially the renegade ones. Even without an alignment system I think the Bioware staff could figure out a way to have interrupts if not for DA2 perhaps, for a future DA game.

Yes, that would be awesome:) I would love to toss a qunari out a window that could be the warrior interrupt.....for persuasion Hawke interrupt could be giving him a bag of cookies:) (Cookies is the ultimate secret to defeating the qunari invasion in Kirkwall)

I really think that DA2 has the potential without the alignment system to still have some really awesome interrupts: Does anyone have other good ideas for funny interrupts?

We can still have cool things like Qunari defenestration without needing interrupts.

Edit: I can't believe I finally found a non-forced situation where I could use that word.

I would like interrupts, but I am a person that sucks with anything timed.  So more than likely I'd screw up and never get a chance to see anything else.

Good idea but not for me.

I have no idea, but it's always been sitting there in the back of my brain...waiting. Biding its time.

Given that you can pause Dragon Age during combat to think about your next move, it would be silly if you couldn't take your time to make a decision during dialogue. And what if the phone rings while I'm in the middle of a conversation?
