So I was thinking of picking it up...but from reading the forums it seems like a giant hassle to install the game into windows 7 and make it work correctly...should I even bother getting it?

Hassle? Some some yes, but the game is great and will give you a huge number of hours of enjoyment.

I was able to install it so even a victim of the zombie apocalypse should be able to manage it.

OS: Win7 Ultimate.

Processor: Intel® Core™ i7 CPU 920 @ 2.67GHz (8 CPUs), ~2.7GHz

Memory: 9216MB RAM

Card name: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260 (latest drivers that SOME people are saying fixed that graphical issue)

The secret to installing NWN2 in win7 is to play it for 5 minutes before you update or install expansions. Play for 5 minutes in between installing each expansion.

Install NWN2
Play for 5 minutes
Install Expansion
Play for 5 mintues
Install expansion
Play for 5 minutes
Update
Play and use Toolset all you want

I don't know exactly why it works but it has for me at least 2 times already.

The latest nvidia drivers solve the problems between NWN2 and nvidia cards.

Is the toolset necessary? I just like to play the main game and online in some persistant worlds but I am not very good at making them...

Toolset's included. You don't have to use it. Many don't. It's there, though, when and if you ever get the urge. And, if that day should come, we're here to help. Believe me, you'll be glad we are.

so any advice on where to buy it? Should I get a hard copy or a digital download?

Hard copy is my vote. I like having something I can install any time, any where (as long as I have the computer that is) and can pull out that little manual and read when ever I wish. I hate having to pull up a .pdf file and read if I don't have to. I like also knowing that a hard drive crash doesn't totally hose my installation or that someone can't just decide one day to shut down the server and I can't download it any more either. Which is why I have all the patch files downloaded and saved to DVD as well -- you know, just in case.

Still, there are others out there who swear by the digital distribution method. No boxes to lose, no discs to get cracked (only happened twice to me since Optical media was introduced as the standard method of retail distribution) no manuals to get lost in moves, etc.

So that choice, will have to be made by you. My vote and advice is, however, go with the hardcopy.

I had to install DA 3 times because of PC problems. It takes ~12 hours to download. Get the hard copy. Amazon has the gold edition for ~$15USD.

I have Windows 7 and I don't remember having any problems with the game.

Playing it for a few minutes apparently isn't usually necessary, but allows the game to setup up Stuff, so will reduce the likeliness of you having problems.

Personally, I prefer hard copies too.

I haven't reinstalled NWN2 anywhere since I first installed it (although admittedly, it's now sitting on systems that are no longer cutting edge, of which I only have one, and Dragon Age is on it, as is Mass Effect 2). Hard drive space is so very cheap these days, I don't take 'em off again, but I also don't play very many because there just aren't enough of them that I like to play any more (RPGs are my bread and butter).

I prefer digital copies, those boxes just take up space even if they are smaller now comparing to the pc game boxes of the olden days which were HUGE. You can always bakc up your digital copy on a DVD or a second HD, I have re-installed the game twice now using my digital copies without problems. Sadly when nwn2 first came out there was only a hard-copy for it hmm I wonder if there is a digital one now I can get my hands on.

You can get a digital installation from Atari (through Digital River) to answer that question.

But I gotta ask -- 'get your HANDS on' a DIGITAL COPY? I know it's metaphorical, but COME ON!

dno

( tongue planted firmly in cheek here.)

NWN2/NWN1 are alone. They are the only games to do what they do, and with their feature.

So is it wort it ? Well if you are interested in the feature of those game you don't have the choice anyway. They are the only one with them.

If you buy the game, make sure you get both expansions with it. Many of the new features/improvements/content make the game 300% better. Plus, any online PWs you play on will probably require them.

NWN2 offers the most bang for buck of any game on the market today.
