My ME2 Council would be saying something like, "We know there are Collector attacks in the Terminus Systems and we're worried it has something to do with the Reapers. We can't come out publicly against them. We know Cerberus has something to do with it. We want you to work undercover for them."
...

I kind of took their reinstatement of your spectre status (for those who accepted it), with no hands-on support and restricting you to to work outside normal Spectre jurisdiction, as an underhanded version of just that.
"Should you or any of your crazy team be caught or killed, the Secretary will disavow any knowledge of your actions. This holo-vid will self-destruct in five seconds."

Possibly did it to escape from the Reapers? Because that could be useful.

The ship is only approximately 8,000 years old, which is too recent for them to have been hiding from the Reapers. Maybe their species was dying from an incurable plague, or something along those lines, and this was the only way they could preserve themselves. It would fit nicely with the theory that the Reapers came to be in a similar fashion: they were originally an organic race who put themselves into the first Reaper to preserve their genetic legacy.

Ah, yes, sorry. Thanks for telling me, not sure how I missed that.

I have the strangest feeling that this entire community will be shoved in the Council's version of the warehouse from the end of Raiders of the Lost Arc and forgotten about because there's no way to get their technological advances out of the devices that sustain them in their everlasting game-life of Galaxy of Fantasy...

Probably on a giant shelving unit next to bits of Sovereign.

You guys realize that alot of what is posted on the Daily News is all based on real current events happening in the world?

This is related to the miners who are currently trapped underground and won't be dug out till December...

sheesh...

That's an interesting hypothesis.

So what if this AI virtual world is what happens to organics after the Reapers harvest them, That would make some of the stuff harbinger said make sense, cause at times he sounded like he thought what he was doing was for the good of organics. And it would make sense of what Sovereign said in ME1 that each reaper was a nation.

That's not the impression I get from what the Collectors were doing to the colonists, or what was said at various points.  My impression is that each Reaper is a gestalt entity, with the millions of "minds" forged into a single "hive" entity imprinted with the Reaper ideology.

And it would've been awesome if they'd actually done that, but they didn't. :(

Being undercover for the Council would've made things ten times more interesting. You'd be walking a razor's edge the whole time between the Council and the Illusive Man, you'd feel conflicted about getting close to Cerberus personnel (conflict is yummy), Jacob and Miranda would feel like forbidden fruit as love interests (forbidden fruit is yummy) and the whole time you'd be this operative whose morals were constantly tested in a tug of war between your duty to the Council and the fact that you're seeing firsthand that Cerberus is trying to do good (emotional tug of war is yummy).

A completely impossible situation would be this is the first reaper that has arrived from darkspace, and it almost used up all its energy reserves, though the 8000 year old part would suggest this is unlikely

The whole thing got made Top Secret by the Citadel and there wasn't any details after that, it's probably safe to say they are still there since they offered tech and scientific advances if they replace the power generator on the ship.

new information

“The famed "virtual ghost ship" is back in the news today after a reported sighting of MIT exobiologist Jordan Detweiler. This follows weeks of rumors that Detweiler had embarked on a diplomatic mission into a virtual alien world that he discovered on the ship's supercomputer. It is now understood that Detweiler's body remained in a controlled coma while his consciousness explored the artificial civilization. However, multiple eyewitnesses on the Citadel claim to have seen Detweiler visiting the Presidium recently. A Council spokesperson would only say, "We do not comment on internal Citadel matters." This fueled speculation that Detweiler was indeed acting on behalf of the Council in his logins to the virtual world.”

With the thought in mind that the reapers leave the mass relays and such behind to steer the races in the direction that they want them to progress.. I wonder if the virtual race in the ship has progressed pass the reapers, or if they have even been influenced by what was left behind. If not, I wonder what they have created in there world. The idea of evolving technologically without the reaper influence is so intriguing to me. The weapons and tech and abilities that BW could get from an idea like that is limitless, not to mention the architecture and well everything and anything else. I think that was really gets me going with this story.

True. And I have to admit that I sometimes miss dealing with it. Then again, I can at the very least respect TIM in a way I never could with the Council, so that sort of makes up for it.

You respect TIM because he acknowledges the Reaper threat and is doing something. In my scenario, my Council would do that.

Besides, I miss the political landscape. I miss arguing with the Council or agreeing or playing the field. I miss being an operative and feeling like a part of the galactic scene.

Speaking of fantasies, you are still getting that Miranda costume, right?

You make a passing comment and it is burned into the memories of the males forever.

Ah yes, I too miss the debates with the Council. Especially now when they owe me big time. If only we could put General Septimus in there instead of that turian.

However, they are now just programs in a machine, and therefore have no rights, according to some of our fellow posters here.

more information

“An unusual twist today in the case of MIT exobiologist Jordan Detweiler: acting on recent rumors that he was seen visiting the Citadel, Detweiler's daughter, Kyra, traveled to the galactic hub and demanded a meeting with him. Although she signed a confidentiality agreement, Ms. Detweiler claims she was repeatedly denied access. "They only let me see my dad after I raised hell about it," she said. "I can be prosecuted for speaking to the media, but I don't care. He's in danger. There's something wrong with him and the Council knows it." Council representatives continue to refuse comment on the matter.”

looks like my hopes that these would be a peaceful AIs may be wong, one of those consciouses may of taken over Detweiler's body.

GAH!

You seriously posted exactly what I was thinking.

Except that I still think they might be peaceful and instead of "taking over," given the shroud of secrecy the Council is displaying, it might be more of an "Ambassador" type situation in which the entities are meeting directly with the council to exchange information and technology in hopes that they can continue living.

Kyra Detweiler, daughter of famed MIT exobiologist Jordan Detweiler, has released a statement to GBC News alleging the Citadel Council is covering up her father's deteriorating medical condition. "He didn't even know who I was -- his own daughter! I got five minutes to speak with him before security whisked him away. Is he sick? Is he brain-damaged?" Council representatives declined to comment on the situation, fuelling speculation that Dr. Detweiler was profoundly changed by his visit to the virtual world inside a derelict spacecraft. "Silence is a terrible answer," wrote columnist Urla Dhen. "The public doesn't know much, but it knows that anything relating to AI or synthetic life is something to fear. Refusing to comment leads us all to assume the worst."

I'm going with the Ambassador idea myself. What can I say, I'm an optimist.

"A furor has erupted over the recent GBC News conversation with Kyra Detweiler, daughter of noted MIT exobiologist Jordan Detweiler. Ms. Detweiler alleged the Citadel Council is covering up her father's deteriorating medical condition, triggering a media backlash from all quarters of the galaxy. In response, the Council held a hastily arranged press conference to manage damage control, at which spokesman Anton Galer said: "Acting on behalf of the Council, Jordan Detweiler did indeed visit the virtual alien world he discovered. Yes, Dr. Detweiler was seen on the Presidium recently, but this was his body, not his mind. He has, for lack of a better term, 'swapped' with an alien consciousness in the virtual world. This procedure was the most stable way for their ambassador to gain access to our physical universe for diplomatic discussions." A stunned media corps quickly erupted with questions, but the Council spokesman declined further comment."
