I use the Wings of Velvet mod for my PC Dragon Aging. It's a nice set, for male and female mages.

I really like that armor mod. I have Morrigan wear it, and Leliana has the same mod-maker's other armor set, Legacy of Sundown.

Anyone mind linking the mage images for DA2? I haven't managed to get my hands on any. Onto the point of the thread, the mage cowls are....

HORRIBLE. period.

I mean, my first character was a mage and the moment I put on the apprentice cowl (me thinking it would look epic), I took it off and throw it out my inventory. I mean, they looked ridiculious, how you could ever come upt with such things is beyond me. From then on I refused to get any sort of cowl in the game, abandoning any loot I found with it. If they return with the cowls in DA2 I will most likely follow the same policy (the only excuse I see for them to do that is for consistency). I mean I really feel for the console users out there, I had DA:O for PS3 first before getting my PC version and I just tried to ignore some of the terrible clothes design. Not the bash the designers too much but they didn't really go out there with clothes design nor leather armour design (I just try to ignore Leliana's terrible armour), it remains me of Fable 2 where most clothing made you look like a pirate.

Cloaks/Hoods is a fantastic idea, not just for mages but rogues as well, I mean, leather armour looked terrible on female and male rogues (I didn't use the helmets either, which were equally bad). The only armour I liked was the Medium/Massive/Chain armour. That being said I didn't mind the Mage's robes too much (really liked the Tevinter one on males) however I agree that they should of spiced it up a bit, especially with there being only two designs which were basically recoloured.

I kinda dislike the dresses the mages wear.

But, if it saves time to just re texture them and maybe a a low polygon or two, then who am I to say no to it?

Serious, diversity is far to search in DA if it comes down to armor. For males but even more so for female characters.

I sometimes wonder why they can't make more diverse armor parts. Cleavages, split dresses, short skirt, bare back...

I still need to encounter the first mage (Morrighan included) that actually looks beautiful with clothes on. (Just my opinion)

So I'm still waiting for that answer...

Seems the engine still needs to be tweaked alot.

I agree Forgotten, they can be more diverse, there is nothing stopping them, after all they have designers for a reason. Also seeing as the game is 18+ there is no issues with being too '****ty' or 'revealing' with certain outfits, which they seem to do with most female outfits.

I mean if the designers are struggling that much with costume design, they should hire some of the DA:O clothing/armour modders who do a great job (I love the Underworld outfit for my mage!).

Something I thought was interesting was that when you first go to Flemeth's hut to retrieve the treaty scrolls, she's wearing peasant clothing. But when you go back to her hut later in the game at Morrigan's request, she's wearing a yellow Circle Mage robe.

Well, you're quite right, good sir. I'm playing on PS3 (I have a PC but I really prefer PS3, a matter of personal preference - I hate playing on PC) and clothes and especially cowls are just horrible. So you either choose arcane warrior to wear something better looking, or stuck with cowls - some on them have too substantial bonuses to ignore them.

the mage outfits look better now. more detailed and the mage hats from origins were pretty bad IMO.

I say circlets, tiaras and headdresses instead of cowls, or just have a grater variety of robes and drop the headpieces altogether.

PS I wasn't a fan of most of the helmets either; I liked seeing faces.

I never wore hats in DA:O. I'd rather take the lesser stats/more damage.

Hoods and cloaks are a must for rogues and mages DA2. And not in DLC you have to buy later. Get on the ball BioWare.

Bethany, Hawke's sister, and a mage, her outfit in this picture doesn't look too bad.

I'd like some sort of armour to be woven in with the robes.

It looks stupid. Naked boobs, unprotected neck. Every enemy archer will aim for the heart or throat. And if it's not meant to protect at all, why there's a chainmail? Too add weight/fatigue?

I too prefer playing on my PS3 but pay up for a PC version simply because all the mods looked awesome on it. I tended to go Arcane warrior but sadly on my first play-through I didn't know how to unlock it and was stuck with tevinter robes (minus cowls), I'm just glad that I could still play the game without having to wear the cowl since the stats didn't really matter that much compared to the rest of the gear (staff, robe, necklaces, rings etc), though in Nightmare mode it can become essential.

Really it wouldn't kill the designers to come up with something different. Especially since they're releasing on console where everything is final (including glitches sadly <_<).

Firstly, thanks for the pic Zarok. Secondly, unfortunately I'm going to have to disagree with you there Gremlin, I actually like the outfit. While I question the dull colours, the design is pretty solid, the unprotected neck isn't really that bad (she is a mage after all) and I don't see Naked Boobs, really, if you think this is bad what about Morrigan's starter outfit? that basically leaves her COMPLETELY open to attack.

It's a mage outfit. It’s not supposed to be armoured. The mage robes in the last game weren't armoured either.

That's a quickly made robe from peasant clothes lol, plus her boobs make any outfit look better.

To be honest that's what I thought when I first saw it . The metal looked like a armoured apron. But it's growing on me the more I look at it, plus it's 10x better than some of the stuff in DA:O.

That's the thing - if it's not supposed to be armored, then why is this chainmail attached to it? Morrigan's outfit didn't protect anything, but it also did not include chainmail. Bethany just looks stupid, like a warrior wearing a breastplate with naked ass.

I can't help but think "combat barmaid" when looking at that. All she's missing are pint-sized mugs o'beer.

Perhaps to stop it looking like peasant clothing? :P But seriously, maybe to stop her getting harmed in the stomach armour (tends to be the most aimed at place in the body). I think you exaggerate the amount of openness up top, it really isn't that much cleavage in my opinion

What are 90% of your posts anti-cleavage?  What did it ever do to you?

By your logic everyone should have every inch of their body full plated and packing steel otherwise they'll get shot in the head.

Perhaps you didn't notice but in DA:O even if you died  in combat you picked yourself off, brushed yourself off and started all over again once the battle ended.  Realism isn't exactly king here.

...

Wait.

A design from the original game you're not okay with? And, changes, you're also not okay with those?  Metal spiked gauntlets are bad because the great RPG DAO didn't have them, but mage robes from that very same game with an updated look are still bad, as well?

Kordy, you should try a little harder. It's what made you a successful troll. You start slipping in quality now, and, well...I don't know what these forums have gone to.

If Bioware does include Grey Knight armor (in my dreams) :P please remember to give warriors the Terminator Armor as well. GO WH40k!

Shale would look badass as an Imperial Titan.

Yeah. Terminator armor (the 'proper term' is 'Tactical Dreadnought Armor', right?) would be nice to walk around in...in the Dragon Age setting.
(Overkill? No. Such. Thing.  )

I imagine Shale would be more of a Dreadnought than a Titan. (to drag up one of my ideas in the now buried cannon/firearm thread that someone started: wouldn't it be cool if you could 'up-armor' a Golem and stick cannons on it? ^_^ )

As for mage armor:
- I disliked most (all?) of the mage cowl/hood/headgear options (something like a tiara or crown would've been nice)
- most of the robes weren't so pretty
- yup: I liked that elf-mage concept/promo art attire thing. would've been nice if the stuff in-game were closer to the art made for it.
- I would have been quite happy had they included all the gear used in the Sacred Ashes trailer (esp. Morrigan's less-revealing attire and Leliana's more 'armored' look)

A simple tactical armor will do for me, but he must have the  2 handed power hammer they always use! Damn, love 40k!
