Continuation of : http://social.biowar...6/index/4594818
I'm having a problem with cutscene audio sync. Casual cutscenes lead to a 2-3 second gap between the audio and the actual lip movement. Pre rendered cutscenes however, are massively out of sync.
This is a very prominent problem, I am finding threads and forums all over the place discussing the same exact issue. The only problem, none of these threads discuss one single fix.  I've looked in the audio stuttering/out of sync thread in this very site and not one solution was found. Every other thread provided by Google after searching had the same results. How am I supposed to fix this? I purchased ME2 yesterday, and worked through some graphics issues that were identical to ones I was having in ME1. I'm using the guidelines Bioware has asked me to use, please help if you can. This renders the game unplayable for me.

1. Syncing issues appear in both regular cutscenes and pre rendered cutscenes. I do not know if the same applies to regular gameplay. I wanted to get this fixed before any major events happened so I don't miss the immersion.
2. Desktop.
3. Windows XP, anything other than that I do not know.
4. A sticker attached to my computer mentions the "3700+ AMD Athlon 64 Processor"
5. I am using an onboard sound called Realtek AC 97. It does not have the latest drivers as I could find no sites that provided drivers for this, even though it is (was?) a popular system. There are speakers built into the monitor.
6. Everything else is closed when the game is active. There are processes running, but I know nothing about those.
7. No. I had identical graphics issues (now resolved) with ME1, but this audio problem never came up.

From what I can tell, you have an incredibly underpowered computer for Mass Effect 2 (as others in your previous thread mentioned). ME2 has major problems with single-core CPUs (processors), and as far as I know no official fix has been found. Some with single-core CPUs manage to get the game working, others don't, as much of it depends on the particular symptom that prevents their play. Your CPU may well be the problem with your sound, and may have nothing do to with your audio device (the on-board RealTek,) Then again, it may. :D Aren't computers fun?

When all is said and done, you may have little choice but to get a new computer, and considering your admitted lack of technical knowledge, you will likely have to pay a bit more for a bit less and go with a company like Dell, unless you know someone who will build it for you. Sorry I can't help more.

Real fun. This why I try and do all of my gaming on consoles. Bioware has me on a guilty pleasure.
I was hoping to at least run ME2 and only ME2 before I had to upgrade. Everything else works and runs great, it's just this damn sound problem.
Apparently single cores can work through the issue after enduring a short while of disappointing drudge, apparently it fixes itself gradually as you progress.
Regardless, I've probably done all I can. Something tells me that even purchasing this titanium sound blaster whatever won't get me anywhere, even though the game runs fine otherwise.

Thanks anyway, going to run it and see if it does anything, I can put up with it for awhile but if it persists I'm going to quit.

Turns out cussing about it and spiting my computer did the trick.

Everything is suddenly in sync, and the game runs perfect.

Weird that it suddenly went normal.

I also have an old-ish single-core machine (P4 2.8), and the only synch problems I have are during the preface when Joker and Pressly are talking in the cockpit. Joker especially is waaay out of synch. Once the main storyline starts, everything seems fine.
