Not sure what kind of advice you need, but this might be helpful to read:

I mean install Advice I see most WIN7 users have issues running the game.

Install the game, play for a few minutes, install Mask of the Betrayer, play for a few minutes, run the updater, play for as long as you want.

This generalization is inaccurate.

"Most" people do not post on these forums when their install just works and they launch the game and play.

The posts you see here are the isolated instances where something goes wrong.

And I say this as someone who did have difficulty with his install and update routine.

Just follow the instructions others have directed you to.  It's not a huge mystery of biblical proportions to install this game.

Prety much what they said. Also there is the Technical Support (Self Help) section of these forums with some information that might be of use to you. My experience so far (WinXP) with those posting about Win7 issues is that actually the majority of Win7 users install with none to few issues on the whole and the majority of the issues relate to toolset use, not game play. You should be pretty okay fine for the most part.

Windows 7 has very few issues, most issues with Windows 7 have been with DirectX drivers; despite the fact the DX 11 may be included with Win 7, DirectX 9.0c (Redistributable) needs to be installed since DX 10 and 11 are not fully backward compatible with apps designed to run on DX9.0c. Please see the Installing NWN 2 topic for installing NWN 2 and subsequent expansion packs.

DirectX 9.0c is on your install disc. It will not mess up your other games. It does not 'downgrade' DX10/11 installs. They are separate beasts and co-exist peacefully on your hard drives. The game determines what it needs in terms of DX. If it finds a lower number, it will barf, if it finds a higher number, it's usually going to be okay. The only times this is an issue is when something requires DX9 and only 10 or 11 is available. And that is actually sort of rare on the whole -- except with the toolset, where it seems to really like to have DX9 instead. This is not completely the case and as long as you're only going to be playing, is most likely not even a concern.

problem is I THINK I bought the upgrade not the full version...BUT my IT buddy installed it so that it was a clean install and not an upgrade to WIN7 (upgrades tend to have problems imo)...so would it be on that disc?

If its not you can dowload it to MS website.

the game works with XP, Vista, Seven and probably Win 2000 as well. There are plenty of post with poeple that explained their problem and the solution as well.

So far no one that made it to the forum got left behind.

If it could have been run with W2K, then I would have done that, but it wouldn't start in that OS for me when it was new.

It's clear that I was not completely understood in my post.  Not your Windows Installation Disc.  IN your NWN2 Disc, in a folder that is labeled: Prereqs, you will find a working and useable copy of DX9.0c.  It's not the absolute latest update of that app, but it is sufficient to get you cracking.
