Ha, nothing to add but support. I say let you all have whatever you want so long as I get a F/F gay romance in the game.

I think M/M should be an option however, I would hate it if it was between two silent type characters, that would be boring. Also, I think I would want somebody easy on the eye, I don't think I'm prepared to have my PC molested by some bear-like character... it would make Hawke and his beard less manly... I think whoever it is... better not make my Hawke feel less macho end of the day. Also, I don't think I'd enjoy the whole : I'm gay for you scenario, while I can understand that a lot of gay men discover their interest by starting to feel attracted to men that are prominent in their close environment, I would find that scenario in a game like DA a bit forced... sure Hawke is good looking manly killing machine but, I just feel that killing a lot of stuff tends to fortify friendship and camaraderie and not make you suddenly start looking at the guy who's dismembering stuff next to you as a potential LI... but that is probably just me.

As for all the incest suggestions... all I can say is = No, please stop saying that... just NO!

So my other thread got locked lol But anyway, what type of m/m romance would you like to see for hawke?

I would like to see a Qunari with Hawke, or maybe even another human male

That should have been your first clue to not restart it. I hoped this one will be locked too, this topic has been beaten to death and only leads to people getting mad.

Uhm, the moderator from last thread said he wouldn't mind a new thread. Get over it.

We discuss what we want, as long as it is kept intelligent (somewhat), some trolls and useless posts aside, this has been a civil thread.

Anyway, I wonder if they go the way they went with Zevran, mildly stereotypical bisexual character, or if they are going for something new.

But the devs have said Hawke is a much less defined character than Shepard.

And thanks for clarifying, my pessimism probably made me not notice it.

The
pessimist in me also thinks that since ME had a definite character and
now DA2 has aswell, they will go with no homosexual romances again.
BECAUSE it is pre-written and constant, like they said, nevermind that
there are a few of lesbian options flying around in ME.

That whole idea of Shepard having a defined character is nonsense - you can't come up with an excuse like that after it's been written in, or when you give the player so many different choices in order to allow them to define their character.... like when you make an RPG.   If Shep was 'set', how come I could choose one or the other?  If I want a shooter with set characters I can't mould to my own liking, I play Army of Two or Gears of War.   I ignore that excuse 100% of the time; it was a pathetic attempt to cover up blatant homophobia.

As for DA2... I hope they include it, and it's done well.  I don't really have much of a preference for him, so long as he's masculine and doesn't ever apologise for finding other men attractive the way Zevran did  (I also don't want any apologies from a possible F/F romance partner).

Generally, I thought the romances in DA were quite well written, on the whole; they fit the characters nicely and there was no weird sudden turn.  The only thing I really hated was that the two heterosexual LIs didn't really have any clear way to avoid them.  Zevran and Leliana had very obvious "FRIENDS ONLY" responses and that was that - friends from then on.  The straight options didn't really give you a real chance to say 'no' until it was too late.

There needs to be an obvious way people can keep the line between friends and lovers clear-cut for ALL potential LIs.  Not just for the people who come on these forums to talk about how gay people are disgusting, but for the normal people who can live with different preferences and just want to avoid certain/all romance options.

And I don't care if there are sex scenes; I know where to get pornography if I want it, and the ones in DA were just embarrassing.  Romance subplots are about real affection, support and loyalty to me, not about weird scenes with people lying on top of each other with pained expressions on their faces wearing ugly matching underwear with some weird new-age music playing in the background.  donotwant :crying:

Alistair had a problem with this, but Morrigan seemed pretty easy to avoid romancing. She kind of asks what the Warden wants.

Whatever the case, I don't think accidental romances will be a problem in DA2.

As to the male love interest himself, I would like someone less flamboyant than Zevran. More of a manly man, so to speak - but not so silent as to bore me.

Shy dalish elf that always knew he was gay, but figured he'd be alone forever cause nobody in his clan was gay.

Hmm, that might work too. I just don't want a Zevran repeat.

No gay stereotype character please and I do like Zevran but no "i'm only gay because I'm madly addicted to sex" either. Can we have a gay/bi character that just happens to be gay without having to justify it? It just ends up reflecting badly.

They are bound to come up with new personalities anyway.

Kind of gets old if things repeat over and over.

Zevran wasn't quite a bad boy type, he was mildly broken and sweet once one got to know him.

There has to be a really bad boy companion this time, just has to. Good if it's a LI, better if it goes both sexes.

Sweet Alistair and slu-... I mean secretive Zevran are unlikely to appear again fully character personality wise.

I didn't think Zev apologized for being gay. I remember more of it as him seeing how you reacted when he flirted with you, and I assumed it was to save the poor straight guys from being hit on by the scary, bisexual, little, elf.

I have liked many of the ideas that have been put forth here as LI's, the only one I COMPLETELY disagree with is the "I don't want the LI more masculine than I am," which completely rubs me the wrong way. Sissy boys can be just as heroic as anyone else, more probably because they ahve to deal with more crap constantly.

Anyway, I see the qunari as a great way to create a love interest that does not have any problem with who he is. The society seems romanesque to me, and while it seems strictly designed where everyone has their role and their place it seems quite easy to imagine men developing partner bonds in their military upbringing, and sex not just being about procreation, either it is split between procreative or recreational, or procreation itself is monitored. Children are not raised by their biological parents, so the family unit is not the same. I would like a gay man who knew what he was and had no problem saying it and I completely can imagine Sten doing so (and having a small problem with it because you were obviously inferior).

Or, I may even be able to handle that the gays are the magic wielders of the Qun- then we get a sort of Native American feel, and societal homophobia mixed in with magical distrust. Interesting, compelling, disturbing.

Personally I don't see proper qunari ever having any relationships based on love, nor any relationships among the same sex.

They have strict gender roles, and seeing women liking women for example would perhaps cause the same thing that Sten said to female Warden, "Why would a woman want to be a man?". To me, it seems that the life in the Qun is but a duty, duty of doing something, being someone.

Sten did not seem to show any emotion towards any one of the companions, he only saw what they were capable of and respected them for it, or didn't.

The concept of love is probably very alien among the qunari.

Hence why I think if there is going to be a relationship with someone from among the qunari, it is probably an outcast, can't remember the term for it. A person who may be from the same race that Sten was from, but outside of the Qun.

I've always wanted to romance that support character... you know the one, the freakishly thin scientist guy who can't actually go on missions with you but gives you cool weapons to use, a little swishy but you can't be sure because he's SOINLOVE with his work. Yeah, that guy.

But instincts tell me this is high unlikely.

i hope male/male romance is an option in the game, even though i'll never take up the option. i have yet to play a male character in the first game, it simply doesnt appeal to me playing a M/M romance but i still like that the option is available for those that do want it

I see your point, but having feelings and expressing them are two different things.  I think that the Qun privately show their feelings and Sten acting in his capacity as soldier (and representative of his race) would adhere strictly to what he thought his role should be.  I also see the Qun separation of duty, role, and emotion as an easy way to fit same sex possibilities in.  Who cares which gender I have sex with, sex is for these purposes, bonding, pleasure, and/ or procreation, and it doesn't matter who I do it with if I deem them a worthy mate.

I'm also unsure of how good a gauge Sten is a representative for the Qun.  His duty was as soldier, he obviously was a strong nationalist and may feel the need to compensate strongly by being surrounded by heathens by exaggerrating the virtues of the Qun.  Also, I think he must have been a little afraid, guilty (for slaying the innocent family), and uncomfortable, so he attempted to keep himself distant from the other companions.  It will be interesting to hopefully find out more about them in DA2.
