The Qunari could be like the Vikings. Lots of historical studies have been done and from what the scholars have been able to deduce the Vikings considered homosexual sex okay as long as the person doing was the "top". They did it as a way to show their conquest of their prisoners. Anyhow I don't mean to say that is a good way to do it by any means - just that the only way I could see the Qunari getting into any m/m relationship it would be as a form of conquest/control type of thing.

I wasn't into Zeveran originally but he grew on me and by the end of the game I actually liked him a lot. I am playing through a 4th time and I had him in camp and I felt a little sorry for him. He seemed a little left out so I somewhat put all my attention on him and enjoyed the romance.

Still my ideal romance would be more like the two guys in the Calling (the book by David). It was very nonchalant.
Actually the best approach would not to even make it an issue, because prior to modern day there really wasn't any "homosexual" identity in the past. It was more just an act. According to many theories by historians people didn't identify as "gay", they just carried out sex. A subtle but important distinction. Where it was considered acceptible to have same sex relationships it was also often considered a side thing - something to do for pleasure as many cultures required people to produce offspring for the good of the community.

So with that framework I would prefer to see Hawke and his/her romance choice to be jsut a natural occurrence without any labels. In other words a real blank slate where Hawke and his/her partner may not even have thought about it to much. Perhaps they had a little experience with both sexes, some experimentation, but until they actually meet someone they really fall for they are open.

For example they might meet another guy, a warrior type, who may have fooled around with his comrades, as well as some wenches in the bar. No labels of gay, bi, etc. Hawke and that guy grow close and discover some attraction ... and viola they end up having a relationship.

Not sure if I explained that well or not. As for the type of guy I would like - someone like Julien or Alistair or the brother of the Couslands or even the poor guy in the Noble origins who wanted to be a gray warden but never made it beyond that night of the attack.

I doubt there will be one but if there is, I'd hope a warrior. Perhaps a Qunari.

After watching the trailer I somehow got the impression that default Hawke is gay. Dunno I have no problems with gays but it is strange seeing a homosexual maincharacter isn't it ?

How many potted plants have you pegged as gay in your life time? I can only imagine quite a lot.

OMG LOL this is the funniest thing I've read in a long time on a forum.

I've said this before and I'll say again; though I do not do the M/M romances (as I almost never play as a dude) I consider it a major ++ . Homomance is the salmon swimming upstream so to speak, but it sets companies apart from the mainstream garbage that is blended and poured down the consumer feeding tube in massive quantities.

For the record, I found out about dragon age because a very popular gay celebrity blogger (not perez) had a youtube of the Zevran romance on his main page.

It's not gay if it's an elf.

A Qunari would be cool.

Honestly, a Qunari romance in general, whether same-sex or not, would be interesting, just given their culture. According to the wiki:

Qunari don't generally associate mating with love. They feel love. They have friends. They form emotional bonds with one another. They just don't sleep with each other to express it. And if they do, they get re-educated by the Ben-Hassrath.

So it would be interesting to see a Qunari wrestling with a more traditional human view of romance vs the Qunari view of relationships.

Yeah...

I like Zevran (obviously), but I would prefer -- both for my own enjoyment and to get a little more distance from stereotype -- to have a male LI who didn't have to be Ye Olde Jacques Nasty, the darkest and dirtiest of them all.

I don't think I'm alone in this. In male-male love stories, both those written for gay men and also those directed at a female audience, the typical object of desire is  -- whether he's the slim, long-haired androgyne or the straight-arrow jock next door -- a pretty sweet guy. That seems to be what the audience for this niche wants.

Having Zevran play the over-the-top, insatiable horndog seems directed less to either male or female fans of gay male romance and more to straight guys who prefer to treat it as a jokey gross-out. Of course, yes, straight guys are the majority of the audience, but they are not the ones who are going to be reading this particular chunk of content. Make it easy to avoid this storyline completely, but if you're going to include it at all, then why not write it for the ones who want it, rather than for those who don't?

I see your point, but having feelings and expressing them are two different things.  I think that the Qun privately show their feelings and Sten acting in his capacity as soldier (and representative of his race) would adhere strictly to what he thought his role should be.  I also see the Qun separation of duty, role, and emotion as an easy way to fit same sex possibilities in.  Who cares which gender I have sex with, sex is for these purposes, bonding, pleasure, and/ or procreation, and it doesn't matter who I do it with if I deem them a worthy mate.

I'm also unsure of how good a gauge Sten is a representative for the Qun.  His duty was as soldier, he obviously was a strong nationalist and may feel the need to compensate strongly by being surrounded by heathens by exaggerrating the virtues of the Qun.  Also, I think he must have been a little afraid, guilty (for slaying the innocent family), and uncomfortable, so he attempted to keep himself distant from the other companions.  It will be interesting to hopefully find out more about them in DA2.

I still think if there is going to be consummation with a Qunari, it will be with a Tal'Vashoth, an outsider.
Considering the fact that male Hawke was fighting with a Qunari, they may be the antagonists aswell. Image IPB

Seems like it might actually be easier for a qunari gay romance to slip past the priests than a straight one, since a gay affair wouldn't run the risk of jeapordizing the breeding program (although still a distraction from Duty Above Else).

I'm heterosexual and I really like Zev. He's my bro, sort of.

On topic, I fully support M/M romance in Dragon Age 2. Don't think I'd pursue one, but I just want all the insecure, immature, indoctrinated homophobic morons to go OMG GROSS INNATURAL and generally be very upset. :D

What's wrong with being female and doing the M/M option? ... you tink we'd like teh F/F one? ....

Anyway, I have a feeling there wil be 2 bi characters (male and female) for that like in DA:O. As for type? Hm ... sadly I cannot say here because it might get locked down ... no offense but I can get descriptive =)

I'm all for M/M romances anyway.

I believe there might be more romances available. The FAQ kind of hints it.

Or perhaps all it does is tell us it is no longer companion specific.

It's not gay if it's an elf.

Hawke: "Hey, I sure wouldn't mind getting some more of that Elven p.o.o.n tang! Remember that time?
Carver: "Yeah, Hawke, but the one you had was male!"
Hawke: "It doesn't matter when it's Elven, baby!"

(For the record, my Hawke will be as straight as a razor... Just got reminded of that line B))

That whole idea of Shepard having a defined character is nonsense - you can't come up with an excuse like that after it's been written in, or when you give the player so many different choices in order to allow them to define their character.... like when you make an RPG.   If Shep was 'set', how come I could choose one or the other?

Personally, I think the issue with Shepard being a "set character" (as relates to the topic of same sex romances) is silly, too, I just didn't want to get too far off the topic of DA2.  The devs have said that Hawke will be handled differently from Shepard, both mechanically and as a character, so I try to focus on that. Image IPB

And I don't care if there are sex scenes; I know where to get pornography if I want it, and the ones in DA were just embarrassing.  Romance subplots are about real affection, support and loyalty to me, not about weird scenes with people lying on top of each other with pained expressions on their faces wearing ugly matching underwear with some weird new-age music playing in the background.  donotwant :crying:

LOL!  I'm fine with fade-to-black, although I would love sex scenes in DA2 if they aren't as stiff-looking as the ones in DA:O.
