Maybe I'm over thinking this but can Dwarves be templars?  Templars have magic and dwarves aren't suppose to be able to use magic.

Templars do not have magic. They have something very magic-like but not.

As far as we know, dwarves can be templars.

I'm sure a dwarven PC can learn the ways of the Templars, but as the Templars are a chapter of the Chantry, and the dwarves in general not particularly religious (At least not as followers of the Chantry), I doubt there are any dwarven Templar NPCs...

Although I guess there are very few dwarven templars lorewise. But I have not seen anything that should stop a dwarf from becoming one.

They're more of an anti-magic force.

But a dwarf probably can since it's a specialisation of the warrior caste and all.

Ha ha, I can see the sign at the entrance:  "You must be *this* tall --> to ride on the Maker Merry-Go-Round"

And then a big rant from Oghren about length and stupid rules while Zevran says. "Do you want me to explain the experience for you or should I buy some platforms shoes for you?"

They can. This applies to both lore and gameplay.

ERm...don't think so

IIRC, David did mention that templar abilities are very spell-like..and they probably draw from the Fade too. Now I'm confused....

No, this is what David mentioned:

No, it's not quite the same thing as what mages do. Dwarves could be templars if they learned the right skills.

Well dwarfs do have a natural ressentice to magic. They would be good for hunting down mages.

They CAN be Templars, but it still doesn't make much sense lorewise because Dwarves are atheists who practise ancestor worship and believe only in a state of being called ''part of The Stone''.

You can pretend your particular Dwarf converted, of course, but that's a pretty radical change from your upbringing... in both Dwarf origins.

Many dwarfs leave underground and many dont come back because they arent accepted.
They are called sun touched or something. So they stay above ground and breed and so there children probably may convert. All the templars I have seen are humans.
I suspect that Alistar teachs you how to be a templar...there are always books also.

You don't have to BE a literal Templar to learn Templar skills.

Depending on the specialisation, I suppose it doesn't really mean that becoming a Templar makes you a warrior of the Chantry. All it means is that you acquire the skills of that role, through training and education.

It's not exactly like Alistair is an actual Templar when you meet him, but it doesn't mean he can't employ the abilities and teachings to significant effect.

Yes, becoming a Templar does make you an arm of the Chantry. However, you do not become a Templar by specializing as one.

I think it's somewhat feasible for the mysterious Orlesian Warden Commander should (s)he be thoroughly "air-touched" for a generation or so. Just as they might conceivably lose their resistance to lyrium, so too might they regain some measure of "sorta magical" Templar ability in addition to Chantry worship. I know I only really want the Righteous Strike.
