Uhm, maybe Miranda chose to bang you in the engine room because there is a big possibility there are no bugs there? Why do you think Tali always wants to talk in the engine room?

It's also where Tali and Jack will probably notice.  Miranda is playing alpha female again.

I didn't know that people put this much thought into one line of dialogue.

A couple people here posted that maybe Jacob broke Miranda's heart... I took it far differently.

I played ME Galaxy. For most of the game, Miranda is telling Jacob what to do, and who to shoot in holographic form. At the very end, she shows up in his room with champagne.

Later, she was Jacob's boss again at Project Lazarus.

If MaleShep romances Miranda, she tells him that SHE will get him when she is ready for some lovin'.

She likes calling the shots and controlling/using people.

So, I'd say that she was just "rewarding" Jacob/using him for some sex. Maybe she had feelings for him, but that is never shown. It seemed like she thought she was too good for him, except as a play thing.

Oh, I think she cared for Jacob. The look she gives him after his loyalty mission says that plainly, imo.

She also said she had cleared the engine room. Think she's lying to get into your pants?

In reality, though, I honestly just think they chose the engine room because they thought male gamers would find it cool. Or hot. Whatever. I really don't think they put much thought into it. Not as much as we are, anyway. I think we're looking for meaning in a pretty meaningless design choice.

And that's where the problems start, when the designers don't put much thought into something.

Well the writers are kind of like God. We earthly mortals look up at the sky and try to divine some hidden wisdom in why he let the Dark Ages happen, it makes no sense, so much suffering, and for what, what was the grand message. He looks down and says oh yeah, damn, I was pressed for time that day and I had a cake in the oven.

Which I believe is the fundamental problem: that of the designers, not the writers.  Writing was not given precedence.  More like "Hey writer guy!  We need dialog for scene X!"  The game designers came up with scenarios, and the writers just came in to fill in the blanks (perhaps grudgingly, pulling their hair out all the while, potentially considering putting a pseudonym in the credits.)

You know, if I worked for BioWare, I would jump at the chance to write dialogue for a scene. That all writers in the entertainment industry inevitably grow weary of being asked to write on demand has always troubled me.

But gamers are ruthless when it comes to tearing apart dialogue. I salute the writers for wrecking peoples heads.

I've shied away from Miranda and Jack so far.  What does Kasumi say?

Kasumi says:

"Really Shepard, in the Engine Room... right there where Tali works,"

"and exactly how much is Miranda genetically modified,
'cause I mean - wow."

As for the "not this Sh*t gain comment" about the engine room. I thought it was cool idea, but it just didn't make sense. As others have stated it seemed like pure fan service. Mordin removed all of bugs from the lab, why couldn't Miranda do that for somewhere they were unlikely to be seen. Even if they are no bugs, that still doesn't change the fact that their are windows to the engine room all over the ship. Miranda takes her work very seriously. The game makes a point to hammer that part of her personality home. Jack seems more like the lets get it on in the engine room kinda of girl not Miranda.

I seem to recall a conversation with Miranda being amazed that Shepard can do all she can, that pretty much established Miranda

Confusing.

The line is just a pride boost for male Shepard, but can be read wrong when it's female Shepard. I did of course at first. I think of it now that Miranda probably emotional and mentally abused the poor guy. Unless male Shepard is around, Miranda is probably going to die a very lonely shrew because she'll never find anyone to meet her standards.

If you ask me, and no offense to the Miranda fans, but good guy Jacob deserves better than Miranda.

BAM!!!!!  HOMERUN!!!!!

Miranda's character and her personality is pretty rotten.  Despite the super-confident attitude that she likes to project, she really has all of the traits of an individual suffering with a MASSIVE inferiority complex.   She projects all of her insecurites on others.  During the start of the Suicide Run I really wanted to tell her to just S-T-F-U.  The mission was dangerous enough and there she was doing her best to kill the morale in the room.

She didn't have any actual respect for the people around her, and the squad KNEW IT.    I won't even begin to try to address "Ms Perfect's"  narcissism, her pressure filled upbringing obviously played a huge role in shaping her impossible self image.    But in their clearly short lived relationship, Jacob probably began to identify some of Miranda's issues.  Her latest manipulation involving the Hugo Gernsback  probably helped him come to the conclusion that a relationship with Miranda is not in his future or in his best interests.

The reason Miranda chose the engine room is: vibrations.

As Jack said. "Miranda's a Cerberus ****." But that doesn't mean my Shepard can have her for a one night stand.

Well Mass Effect Galaxy is canon. Although ME:G's version of Jacob was a bald, a Sentinel (He had biotic and tech powers), wore heavy armor, carried an AR, a Grenade launcher, and had good one liners.

They hook at the end of Galaxy if I'm not mistaken. I've only read about the game, I haven't actually played it. I refuse to buy and i-phone. HTC ftw!

At the end of Galaxy, Jacob is resting in a room on his ship. Miranda comes over, with a drink, and joins him. The rest is fairly easy to imagine...

LOL! I wasn't ACTUALLY serious there, by the way. To be completely honest, I think it's clear that the writers intended to make Jacob and Miranda seem as if they had something in the past. Jacob goes through a lot with Miranda in Galaxy. Also remember how Galaxy takes place two years prior to ME2. I just think it's very possible the two were romantically involved at some point. You can even get Jacob to talk about it in ME2, but he doesn't seem to WANT to talk about it.
