I'll be honest and admit I avoid the Jacob romance just because Femshep just seems so needy when she is stalking Jacob. Considering the rest of the romances don't come off that way to me, I'm thinking it's just my perception filter working overtime again

There's an odd moment in ME1 as well.   Ashley and my Shepard started talking about faith and poetry.   That was IT!  After the next meeting in the FTL com room,  Ash demands that I choose between Liara and herself!

I couldn't believe it! lol! All I did was listen to a few lines of poetry and Ash was convinced we had a relationship!

Yeah it's not like a crew member saw you with Miranda and commented on it..oh wait Kasumi did <_<

That doesn't me she saw much of anything.  She may have simply that noticed Shep headed down there right after Miranda did, and done the dead simple math.  If she can leave her room to go full on voyeur, she can leave her room to do that too.

Unfortunately for your argument Kasumi doesn't say "What were you doing in the engine room with Miranda, Shep?" She directly chides you for getting it on with Miranda in the engine room where Tali works. That's pretty specific.

Uh, yeah: soooo utterly impossible to guess what those two were doing in there.....

No, she simply had to be cloaked and watching from a front-row seat or whatever.  'Cause it's not like the whole ship wasn't aware the two of them were involved before that....

Exactly, Miranda picked the engineering section because of how LOUD IT IS.  It's a part of the ship where she and Shepard could make as much noise as they wanted and no one would hear it.   It's also the reason why Tali motions for Shepard to talk near the drive core.

The OP mentioned that they were already romancing Jacob when he said that line during their playthrough.

I think one issue is that some people don't consider the romance to start until you are given the option "officially" after having completed that mission. Thus, they see it as him making a casual comment about an ex to someone he never thought of as a romantic partner, and so never considered her reaction. From my perspective, however, she has been interested the entire time and made that clear through comments like commenting on his body and asking if he's single (the option you get as a female instead of saying you're interested in Miranda). He hasn't been pushing Shep away either, he seems interested as well, just not ready to jump* in yet until he dealt with his daddy issues.  Shepard was already considering him a romantic interest, and then gets that line tossed to her like a used hanky.  For Sheps that weren't thinking of him that way and didn't flirt with him to begin with, I suppose it could come across differently.

(*on an unrelated note, I originally typoed "jump" as "hump". until I reread and fixed it. Image IPB)

I was thinking along the same lines but apparently, in the ME universe, you're not really in a relationship with anyone until you sleep with them right? Image IPB

I see the point but don't personal quarters serve the same purpose? If technology has advanced enough to create a portable nuke-firing weapon, surely they've developed some type of noise-reducing metal material to construct ships out of. I can buy it with Tali because it's right next to where she works. But Miranda actually made a premeditated decision to clear the engineering bay just for this purpose. Which means she's either nothing more than an exhibitionist or worse, someone that enjoys creating conflicts where none existed before (aka a drama-queen).

I've shied away from Miranda and Jack so far.  What does Kasumi say?

Kasumi says:

"Really Shepard, in the Engine Room... right there where Tali works,"

"and exactly how much is Miranda genetically modified,
'cause I mean - wow."

As for the "not this Sh*t gain comment" about the engine room. I thought it was cool idea, but it just didn't make sense. As others have stated it seemed like pure fan service. Mordin removed all of bugs from the lab, why couldn't Miranda do that for somewhere they were unlikely to be seen. Even if they are no bugs, that still doesn't change the fact that their are windows to the engine room all over the ship. Miranda takes her work very seriously. The game makes a point to hammer that part of her personality home. Jack seems more like the lets get it on in the engine room kinda of girl not Miranda.

So Kasumi commented the same way I did -- "Wow, way to throw it in Tali's face, Shep."

And yeah, that kind of unprofessional, indulgent, self-absorbed behavior doesn't strike me as Miranda at all.  She had to be convinced to talk to her sister, even.

And yeah, forget bugs, Mordin and Jacob can look right into the damn engine room from their stations.

How do you know Miranda even knew that tali had a crush on shepard? We only see Miranda and tali talk once on freedoms progress
Miranda also stated she Cleared the engine room meaning likley everyone on the engine deck, she's second in command onboard im sure she has authority to clear the deck.

Don't waste your time with them. They are as ridiculous as their arguments.
Nobody on the Normandy can see the place where the scene takes place, the crew can see the engine core but not the room entrance.
And they didn't notice that Miranda also choose the engine room even if Tali is not on board (if you don't recruit her).

Yeah it's not like a crew member saw you with Miranda and commented on it..oh wait Kasumi did <_<

1/ What she said doesn't prove that she saw them, you don't need to watch people make love to know where they did it, especially on a small warship where you can't go somewhere without being noticed by someone.
2/ If she saw them she wouldn't ask Shepard how much Miranda is
genetically modified, she would have been able to see it by herself.
3/ It doesn't change the fact that the exact location where the scene takes place cannot be seen from an another location in the ship.

Try something else.

Yeah it's the same thing Conrad Verner. It sucks. Although Liara seems to throw herself at Shepard in ME1 no matter how you treat her. That chick gave me serious stalker vibes in the ME1.

I wish there was a WTF dialogue wheel when she opens with a detailed explanation of why a non-asari having sex with an asari is not only totally cool, but actually encouraged by her species. Might as well just lie naked and spread eagle on that counter.

Because Shepard instaled loudspeakers in his room or something to project to the rest of the ship? I'm pretty sure going to the isolated part of the ship only Shepard is allowed to travel on the elevator is significantly less stupid.

I mean, the whole scene is just such a giant WTF. When I saw the trailer I assumed it was something random and sponatenous instead of Miranda planning for public sex in the engine room.

I happen to like Miranda, but seriously, that whole scene makes zero sense.

That's just Liara being switched into exposition mode.  Like when Tali gets on a roll about quarian immune systems or the political structure of the Migrant Fleet.  Both of them basically cover the Codex entries for their respective species in somewhat more detail.  The asari biology entry just so happens to spend a lot of time on that topic, so Liara gets stuck with talking about it too.

That line is just another example of Femshep getting the short end of the stick and it's not Jacob's fault it's Bioware's.

As for the Miranda engine thing, it's probably a fetish or something. Some people can only get off by doing some weird sh*t. Ms. Lawson might need a Tantalus Drive Core. That might be the reason her and Jacob broke up. Hell, it might be the reason Wilson betrays Cerebus. Miranda did it on top of his desk or something.

I always felt like they wanted to make sure they could justify blue alien sex to the player. No, it's totally not creepy to get it on with blue girl over there; hell, their magic powers biology even works that way!

Her explaining Asari biology didn't bother me. Running a background check on me behind my back raised the red flags. Everyone else asks about your background, but Liara she's digging into your personal files. Makes me wish they had renegade interrupts in ME1.

Yeah I agree the Miranda scene makes no sense outside of being fan service. It goes completely against they way her character is presented in the game otherwise. I know Miranda's personality rubs some people the wrong way but I liked her cold business like attitude and professional dedication. She was results oriented that it drove poor Gorim...erm...Wilson crazy. I wonder what EDI thought.

EDI: "I broadcasted your encounter with Ms. Lawson throught out the ship Shepard."

Shepard: "You did what!?"

EDI: "It was joke, Shepard."

1) Liara didn't say she hacked into some private data. Shepard's background is basically common knowledge, the kind of thing you could look up on Wikipedia about a US Medal of Honor (Star of Terra?) recipient. Complete with biography and award citation.

Here's an example of someone with a similar level of fame/exploits.

2) I didn't notice Wilson was Gorim until reading your post. Now I'll actually be sad next time I watch Miranda put a bullet in him.

1)I didn't mean to imply that Liara hacked Shepards files. I didn't like that she went behind your back. It wasn't right and she admits as much.

2) I noticed it immediately. It made me sad that she killed poor Gorim.  Why couldn't Wilson be voiced by Bhelen's voice actor? Well, I beat Dragon Age with my Dwarven Noble last night, so me and Gorim are going back to Orzammar.  We are going to spill drinks at Tapsters and celebrate my Paragon status. I feel better now.

This is what happens when people get overexposed to Tali. They must intrude upon my favorite romance with thoughts of her. Grr. Harrumph.

If Tali can stand there and say nothing while Gianna Parasini kisses you on the cheek, or while you share a kiss with Liara - if any LI can watch you get hit on by Shiala without saying a damn thing - I don't see how you can say rubbing anything in anybody's face is possible or plausible, since all the LIs seem to be totally unreacting to one another. I honestly don't think the level of depth you're attributing to inter-character relationships is actually in the game.

Agreed there again, Night.... granted, I've usually had my first meetings with Liara, Gianna and Shiala before any romances have started, but I would really have loved something in the back of the shot in this kind of situation; Tali looks at her feet and turns away, Jack makes some kind of threat of has to be held back by someone, Garrus uncomfortably says hi, Jacob finds something suddenly interesting about the ceiling... that kind of depth would really be great. Sadly, it just ain't there.

I usually run into those situations before my romances start to, but you are right. The ME team needs to talk to the Dragon Age team. In Dragon Age if you are romancing a love interest and get kissed by someone or flirt with someone else they make a comment about it and it lowers your approval with them. In ME2 the crew members barely acknowledge each others existence.

Bioware needs to bring back the indle conversations that your squadmates would get into on the elevators. I hate bring up Dragon Age again but that was one my favorite parts of the game. While you are walking around your party would talk amongst themselves. It was great. I hope ME3 does something similar because outside of "loyalty" fights, your squad pretty much doesn't interact with each other. Well, with the exception of Jacob, he usually says something to new squadmates when they first board the Normandy.

@Nightwriter

Sorry, I had to ask. I'll drop it. I'll hush up now. :?
