If anyone's still discussing the oddness of this character's lines, could someone explain what Jacob meant when he told Shepard as a LI, "with you, there's dead and redline"?

Do I even have that right?

...Wow, I didn't see is as that. Seems everyone wants to make Jacob look like a jerk these days.

I see it as Jacob seeing himself as inferior. He doesn't feel worthy of Miranda, and doesn't think he can give her what she wants. Remember he said "It was close, and then it got very far apart." Obviously something happened between ME: Galaxy and ME2 that made them reconsider a possible relationship.

Also, Jacob's "the prize" thing isn't his fault. Shepard comes onto him like she's looking to strip him down right there in the Armory. If anything, his behavior is HER fault.

This is exactly how I saw it.

I don't think Jacob was slamming femShep, but neither do I think Jacob was going, "F*** that high maintenance b****."

My femShep is aghast at the implication she should be responsible for the words BioWare forces from her mouth. Forces!

With an ass like hers, Miranda is too good, even for Jacob. The only guy good enough for her is male Shepard or a nonexistent male Shepard. As much as I agonize over creating my femsheps in ME1 to make them look as good as possible, it just doesn't hold up.

I agree completely. Never spoke to Jacob because of that horrid flirting they made Shepard say to him.
Not Jacob's fault; but then I wonder if Miranda and he broke up because of the awful dialogue

I agree with the OP. I had heard the line many times before in my male playthroughs and never thought anything of it but when it was said to my first femshep I took it the exact same way as the OP.

Wether it's the characters intention to offend or just bad writing I dont really care, now when I play as femshep I just dont speak to Jacob.

Are you sure he doesn't rather say: "She needs a man better than me"?
If she had said "she needs a better man than I" that would imply that Jacob needs a man as well...

Uh. "Better than I" is correct.

Sois "better than me", actually.  Or rather, people have been arguing about which one to use for centuries.  I expect they'll continue to do so for at least a few more.

It's contested.  "Than" could arguably be a conjunction or a preposition.  You're arguing for it being a conjunction. Siansonea II was leaning towards preposition.

Been there, done that.
