I'm just curious how many folks "hardened" Alistair in conversation to have him become king?

I wish I could put a Yes/No poll up  - but asking should work :)

I have not and will never put that whiny bastard on the throne, hardened or unhardened. Unless I do it once just for the achievement - is it an achievement? Because otherwise, nope.

No, there's no achievement for it.

I have never hardened Alistair and have never made him king either. When I'm being friendly with him I refuse to put him on the throne because he doesn't want to, so I won't force him into a position he doesn't want to be. If I'm not being friendly then I just reason that Anora is a much better choice due to her attitude and experience.

Usually made him rule with Anora. Once had him drunk, once had him ruling alone.

My first canon playthrough = unhardened, not king, stayed a Warden

My second canon playthrough = hardened, not king, exiled

I sometimes harden him and make him rule with Anora. Other times it's Anora ruling alone or with my Cousland male.
I never have him rule alone, and the only Cousland female I've made so far hasn't got on with him so will back Anora instead.

ew... Anora... *shivers* she may end being a 'good' queen, but she is too damn bureaucratic. I always put Alistair up on the throne hardened or no. Plus, I may forgive Loghain for his action, but that doesn't desolve him of his crimes and must reap the consequences of his actions. Plus the first time I meant Anora, the b*tch ratted me out .... I may have died and reloaded the save and picked the peaceful option but still, she betrayed to advance her own goal and that is corrupt whereas (hardened or no) Alistair is noble and honorable. So yes that is my response.

Alistair - Yes (The King)

Anora - No (Disgraced and Imprisoned)

Loghain - Dead (lived long enough to see himself become the villian)

best ending:

Me - Queen

Alistair - King

This is better than marrying Anora since marrying someone you don't love is just...not really a true happy ending.

Usually - hardened and ruling alone. If I'm not intending to king him - I leave him unhardened and go the GW ending.

I have married him off to Anora but I only do that if I'm going to let Loghain skewer the AD.

The only reason I make him king is because I don't want to hear Anora screeching, I mean, delivering her motivational speech.

Urgh, my ears were never the same.

Not once have I made him king. I thought about it during my last Origins go-around, but this time I just decided to keep him a GW instead of normally having him executed and recruiting Loghain

Always hardened, usually sole ruler except one time I made him marry Anora and stayed on as mistress. But as I like to say, friends don't let friends marry Anora. So he gets to find queenie on his own. I have one ending where he was not king.

Everytime but the first playthrough, which was only because I didn't know how to harden him, and he was so against it, I didn't have the heart, even though I still wanted to. Now, I always harden him, and always make him king. If I'm playing a male, he rules alone. If I'm playing a Cousland (my most common playthrough), my PC usually becomes queen, but was chancellor/relationship ended once.

It really depends. If I've played the game so that Anora does *not* betray me at the Landsmeet, she gets to keep the throne. If she does betray me, Alistair takes it. I have never married Alistair off to her; it just doesn't seem like it would make either of them particularly happy.

Although it makes me wonder as to who will take up the throne after either Anora or Alistair passes away with no heir.

No, I did not make him King. Allistair is to childish to be King. He is just dumm happy warrior, who has no idea about politics. His heart is good and justice, but he doesn't see the bigger picture.

Yes, in fact I marry him off to Anora too. It's my favourite way of torturing him.

First couple of times I refused to make him king or married him off to Anora. Simply because he didn't want the throne and he wasn't suited enough. He's a good guy but too much of an airhead and happy go-lucky. Even Duncan's death didn't guard him enough to reality.

However, I did a recent play through and hardened him, I thought it might be okay to make him Sole Ruler that time around (and kill Loghain :P).

This is pretty much my reasoning exactly, as well.  Given the circumstances and current climate in Ferelden, Anora is the less disruptive option plus she has the experience, maturity and willingness to rule. If you're honestly trying to do what's best for Ferelden at the time, then it seems like an easy choice...unless you're metagaming.

With unhardened Alistair, it's more a choice between Eamon and Anora anyway, and personally I am just not a fan of Eamon at all. Maybe it's because of what he said about Dog in the Landsmeet, I don't know...

I always harden him.

In most of my playthroughs he ends up marrying Anora. Only once was he a wandering drunk and the other time he ended up as a headless corpse.

I suddenly feel really selfish. Did no one else put Alistair on the throne to expand the Grey Wardens' influence in Fereldan?

No. The wardens are supposed to be neutral. In fact, Alistair being a warden is one of the reasons I don't like to make him king.
