*attempt two due to the troll ruining my previous thread*

Note: I've only played the Xbox 360 version, I do apologize if any of these problems are also persistant in the PC / PS3 versions.

After recently replaying through the game these past two days in order to brush off every codex entry, sidequest and important choices (explained at the bottom of the post, not really important for the suggestions) I've found a lot of tedious minor things that would have made my life a lot easier if they were fixed. I'll just add them here. Please don't harm me if these don't seem minor from a programmer's point of view, I'm saying this as an armchair developer with no proper expert game programming knowledge.

Console version suggestions:

NEW: Deleting characters.
If you try to create a character after you reach the limit, you cannot delete them in the game itself and you require to go into the memory files and delete it from there. This is especially troubling when all your characters are the same name and you're extremely paranoid of deleting the characters you've created. An ability to delete the characters from the game itself (similar to the Mass Effect 2 mechanic) would probably be one of the best.

"Item recieved".
My problem with this text isn't from when I defeated enemies and looted them or something, the problem for me is when a quest giver tells me "Take this, it's valuable!" and then it tells me I recieved an item. Upon opening a menu, I have no idea what I've recieved and cannot say if it's valuable or not. This is even more of a problem when you're given important items that might have quest purposes. A way to know what item you've just recieved or how to easily track it down in your bags and spot it would be amazing and extremely convient.

Edit: Oh, I've found the perfect example. You pickpocket somebody, "item recieved" and you have no idea what you just stole.

Scrolling through Codex entries.
I've just found a note on the floor and I have looted it, I press the back button to open up the codex entry and read what it might say but for some reason it decided to open up my inventory. I think to myself that I'll just simply read it from the codex. There's a dozen or so new codex entries in the "Note" tab so I open it up and the tab goes further than my screen shows. In this scenario, I  found myself wanting to have the right analogue stick raise / lower the codex entries so I can see where exactly my new note codex is located. Browsing through the entire Quest-Related tab, Note tab and such when you're not even certain the codex entry is located in that specific tab is troublesome.

Approval bar.
While I'm basing this off what I've heard from PC users, I have heard that you can scroll over the approval bar and it'll tell you how the other person feels towards you like if they are a "friend" or something. While on the Xbox 360 we can ballpark how the person feels for us with the bar itself, being able to see the approval bar itself (if what I heard is true) would be extremely nice. Far too often did I have to sit there and wonder if the approval bar went over to the next "level" or not.

Suggestions in general:

Recent Codex entries.
Following the above, often would I find the need to scroll through dozens of already read Codex entries to finally find the one I had been searching for. When I opened my codex to only read through 1-2 newer entries, while going through the 200-300 others (again, the above scrolling would've helped tons), I'd find myself wishing there was another tab that was completely unlinked from the others. A tab that would show all recent unread codex entries since the last time you had opened the codexitself. This would allow me to go through entire scenes (like the defense of Redcliffe for example) without stopping and letting the mood calm down while I read the codex. I can play through the entire area, open the recent entries and find what happened.

Adding more opportunities for changing party members out of camp.

I know there isn't a camp system in Dragon Age (instead using Kirkwall as it's base of operations from what I heard) but needing to go back to camp and then back to the location you came to swap out a party member was very inconvient. When doing the Wynne's Regret quest, I had forgotten Wynne in the camp and had to go through the loading screen to the camp and then the loading screen back again to the Dalish Camp to simply  replace Dog with Wynne. While I do understand why this is so, adding more opportunities to change party members would be extremely helpful. The many times I wish I could swap a character in Orzammar and Denerim (areas with barely / no fighting) were many.

Using party member skills when not in use.
In Awakening, I had decided to make Sigrun my Runecrafting partner. This worked well until I realised I needed to buy things in Vigil's Keep Throne Room and then go out and make her craft it for me over and over again until I recieved everything I desired. This made the crafting really tedious and time consuming for going in and out of the keep every two minutes in order to purchase materials and using them. The ability to use their skills when in the throne room itself would've made it a lot more convient and less dreadful.

That's it for the suggestions, once again apologies if these don't seem as minor as I believe them to be.

- - -

(the two days replaying the game thing)

I had went into a self imposed exile for two days in an effort to complete Origins and Awakening 100%. Except for the few bugs preventing me from doing a handful of sidequests, I've completed it and read every codex entry. These above suggestions were the small things that made me sigh as I went through the game.

I've got a save at every single important choice in the game for the sequel in an effort to not miss anything. :P

Sort of fixed the formatting to the copy-pasting issue, hopefully it'll appear readable now.

Gotta agree with most of it as an Xbox'er myself, the approval bar never bugged me personally though.

Yes please let us use NPC crafter abilities in "camp" or whatever we get.

Oh, it never bugged me as much as the other suggestions. It was just very frustrating to waste gifts to try and find out if you're capped or to push the person to the next "level".

I agree on all counts. I wouldn't say they were the major reasons I switched to PC (the controls and graphics were), but the scrolling stuff especially was really annoying, as was not being able to see the details about the approval meter.

I think when the radial menu is up you should be able to have an option that says send character to this location.

The location will be the center of wherever the radial menu is pointing.

To help you know where your sending your characters there should be a flag saying this is where your character will run to when you unpause.

This would actually be amazing for the strategy aspect of the console, although it wouldn't really be a change of convinence but rather gameplay itself. I'm all for approving, though.

Playing on console, I have to deal with all these. Hopefully they will have a better system in DA2, especially for the codex entries. Maybe a new way to learn about the lore too. If not I'm sure it will still be great overall.

I think the "Item Recieved" and "Scrolling through Codex Entries" would apply to the PC version as well in my opinion. They're definitely good ideas. Hopefully Bioware has been working on a better , smoother, and better user interface.

You weren't able to scroll through Codex Entries? Like.. if you opened a tab, you had to go down through the entire list one-by-one with half the list missing?

Well, they said they are focusing more on the console version (so I'm guessing other console players spoke up enough about the same issues) so hopefully annoying things like the Approval meter will be fixed. But yeah, seeing these things addressed would be a welcome relief.

I'll repeat my post as well then.

I can see why they want to establish parity between the systems. Quite a few of your concerns don't exist in the PC version. You can switch party members in Orzammar, the Dalish camp, Redcliffe, and some other places; you can see the approval bar, as you said; the codex entry system is a lot less cumbersome than what you describe; and the inventory has a tab to show the most recently received items, so if you receive something noteworthy, you'll know. The inability to craft with companions in camp/in the keep was really annoying though, yeah.

Also:
Regarding the copy paste issues, I find that if I copy it to notepad, copy the contents of notepad, and then paste it back into the forum, that effectively prevents formatting flubbery.

I'll try that next time, thank you.

Entirely possible but it's still possible that it won't happen, just bringing up foward. The chances of a Bioware rep to read this is unlikely, I'm just shooting my thoughts in the void and hoping for the best.

The console version felt plain akward. A perfect example is the stone prisoner dlc puzzle. The radial menue got the job done, but more than once I have died when activation an ability on an enemy only to realize that i Haven't technicallty targeted him yet. Wouldn't happen on PC.

Mind explaining how the stone prisoner was awkward?

I totally agree, esp on the codex stuff. Especially since, in my experience, if the new codex entry was below what you first open up, you wouldn't even know if you hit a new codex or not because "new" was signified by the codex being highlighted around the edges, but scrolling through them took away the highlight! So if you're just pressing down down down down and you get to the new one, the highlight is taken away before you've even registered that you've gotten to the new codex entry.

It made it very cumbersome, and I rarely read the codexes for DA:O because of it. And usually I LOVE stuff like that. But I couldn't keep what I had and hadn't read straight in my memory, and the codex setup wasn't helping me.

This. This was the main problem, huge pain in the ass, actually.

This was my biggest problem also. I really hope they fix this.

I tried to write this down as well but couldn't do it (due to being extremely tired), glad you were able to voice it while I couldn't.

Oh, the troll was dealt with and solved. The problem was the first two pages of the thread were nothing but people talking about the troll or being angry at him. I wanted to restart the thread anew and hope people would actually talk about suggestions and such rather than being angry at the troll.

Ok, but know that I can also simply cut out posts that will derail a thread as well.

Back to topic :)

Actually, you CAN switch out party members in the Dalish Camp, Redcliffe, Orzammar etc. (But not Denerim for some damn reason) on the console. I actually didn't notice this until a year after I bought the game, but when you open up the radial menu there's a 'Change Party' button in the upper left side.

Completely agree with everything else, tho'.
