Actually, you CAN switch out party members in the Dalish Camp, Redcliffe, Orzammar etc. (But not Denerim for some damn reason) on the console. I actually didn't notice this until a year after I bought the game, but when you open up the radial menu there's a 'Change Party' button in the upper left side.

Completely agree with everything else, tho'.

If it's true, I'd slap myself. Although I don't want to feel pain so I won't check it out.

Yeah, it's true. Certain areas don't allow the switch, but this is the same for console and PC.

It is true. I've discovered it on my third playthrough and was enraged.

"Item received".

Yes.

Scrolling through Codex entries.

OH GOD YES

Approval bar.

Yes.

Recent Codex entries.

A THOUSAND TIMES YES

My own big big peeve: targeting with the D-Pad. So horribly awkward, especially when the game sometimes refuses to acknowledge a sight-line between a character and a particular enemy that is right in front of him.

Some kind of cursor or reticule system for targeting controlled by an analog stick would be a godsend. And is there any chance at all of letting us pull the camera out, even a little? That would be aces.

*slaps himself, starts crying in pain*

Well, that certainly would've been nice to know before doing the playthrough and wasting a lot of time to simply bring in another character for a quest or something.

I found the change party button almost never worked for me. I don't know if I just had the bad luck of trying to switch in all the wrong areas, or if I was just missing something but it frustrated me to no end. While part of me enjoy's the tough-love c'est la vie attitude of "Oh, wrong party memeber? TOO BAD, SUCKER! Bet you wish you didn't bring Dog along now, eh??!!" but I agree, a quick changing out of party member would be handy.

I'd love, love LOVE to be able to use party abilities in camp. I hated brining Morrigan out to make 100 potions only to turn around head back to camp, and switch her out for someone else. It would be pretty sweet if you could just take care of that in camp.

And 100x yes about the codex entries and the items received. Those are absolutely changes that I would love to see.

The console version felt plain akward. A perfect example is the stone prisoner dlc puzzle.

Mind explaining how the stone prisoner was awkward?

There was a puzzle challenge towards the end, and it was wierd targeting the squares to move them in position.

Had no problems with that... I leave my party holding position near exit, and squares are easily selectable with directional buttons... At least on PS3.

I have another suggestion. It's purely cosmetical, but it's one of the things that I love the most about the PC version of Origins. I'd like for the inventory/map/codex/etc screen to be done in the book format on the console versions. The presentation feels much nicer that way. Anybody agrees on this?

I think the "Item Recieved" and "Scrolling through Codex Entries" would apply to the PC version as well in my opinion. They're definitely good ideas. Hopefully Bioware has been working on a better , smoother, and better user interface.

You weren't able to scroll through Codex Entries? Like.. if you opened a tab, you had to go down through the entire list one-by-one with half the list missing?

Woops.  I think I brain-fryed on that one... I was thinking more of the Recent Codex one which is in the "for all systems" section.  Blargarrific of me isn't it?  Image IPB

I'll just be hitting the ye old dusty trail now...

Mm.. I can understand this as well, makes the interface appear a lot prettier than just having a giant screen open up out of nowhere.

Good suggestions, especially the "items received" one. Nevertheless, my main problem with Origins was the necessity of a rogue in order to loot chests that'll likely contain good items rather than the iron daggers Darkspawn drop. If lockpicking became a trait that warriors, mages, and rogues could use, then I'd be very satisfied. Also, being able to switch your party in more areas would be appreciated.

Really? You didn't like having a to have a Rogue for lock picking? While I can understand that, I'm a bit of a traditionalist and I believe that lockpicking , trap making/disarming is a totally rogue trait. I wouldn't want my warriors to be able to do it. Your class is your class, and it has pros and cons to each of them, which makes party composition so vital. Sometimes quest can be hellish when you've brought the wrong person around.

I know the "item received" txt was annoying however I know once you received any new item, that item was highlighted in yellow in your inventory from what I noticed.  Only problem with that method is, if you're going through your inventory on the bottom of the screen you won't notice the yellow box because once you highlight it, it disappears.
Maybe a journal of some sort, how you can reread conversations, but one that also lists any items received and by whom or what method you received them?  That might not work considering how much items you received but maybe not counting loot as you know what you picked up.

As for party members, I think it was KOTOR that there was an option under the map section where you could switch out your party members at any time.  At least that's how I remember it, I would love that option to be in DA2, would make party selection a lot easier in my opinion.  Overall great suggestions Dave.

I don't know about the 360, but on the PS3 the one thing I HATED was the limited character saves. I find this more annoying now with the stand alone DLCs.

This. Million times this. And copy-protected saves.

It's the same on the 360 and I absolutely agree with you on this.

Actually, I agree with a lot of the suggestions in this thread. Not being able to figure out which items and codex entries I just recieved after quests and/or pickpocketing and such is quite frustrating.

Edit: I don't know if this has been discussed before but I'm going to bring it up anyway. Would anybody have cared for targeting with the directional pad if that feature was removed and replaced with the option to select and use more spells and talents? Would that feel a bit strange in overall terms of comfort and accessibility?

Another way to identify quest based loot would be to add it into the actual saved conversation in the journal such as...

Flemeth: Well done Warden allow me to give you this. [Received jar of Flemeth's fart]

Not sure if it would solve all loot based problems but it would let you know what you got atleast. I'm pretty sure it doesn't already do that.

I agree with pretty much every other point the OP raised.

Completely agree with the codex and items received suggestions. It would be nice if they had a "recent codex entry" or "recent items received" tabs.

As for the issue with the rogues (slightly off topic, so I apologize)...I agree it was frustrating requiring a rogue to open all locked chests (particularly during some of the origins). I think that this could be fixed, however, by allowing warriors the opportunity to bash open chests at the risk of damaging/destroying items located in the chest.

I wouldn't mind it. I NEVER had used d-pad for targeting. Analog stick was far more comfortable for me. As for d-pad being used for more spells/talents/items, I'm not sure. I'd rather have quickslots for map, codex, and such assigned to the d-pad.

I'd like BioWare to run competitions for PC modders, the winner's mods being adapted as DLC for PS3 & 360. Give them a signed print or something as a prize, should be pretty low cost overall.

Well that's like The Anvil of the Void quest. You have to take Oghren with for one part of it.Which I can understand because of Branka but, having to take a rogue with or being a rogue yourself becomes a pain. For instance, either you have to be a tank and you have to take Leliana or Zevran with or you have to be a
rogue just so you can open up all those chests in the Deep Roads and take Alistair with and Wynne for healing and then Oghren comes with. And then if you want to switch companions, you have to fast travel
all the way back to Orzammar and then go aaalll the way back out to the Deep roads again. It's like, what if I wanna take Dog, Sten or Morrigan with? I could but then I'd have to make alot of potions without enough money to buy the ingredients or make Morrigan a healer or do without a tank or take a rogue with depending on what class I pick for my PC.
While I agree that rogues are naturaly good at lockpicking, it's a little inconvienient sometimes due to the fact that we can't swap out PT members whenever and wherever we want to.
Don't get me wrong.I do like the fact that I have to plan on PT setup for every quest, it
reflects real life in learning how to deal with a situation by planning and using what you have. But my point is what if I want to set the PT up differently for a change of pace? It's a little challenging.

On the 360 theres seperate saves for RtO,DC,LS,DA:A,and GoA.On the hdd, the saves have underscores in the names.I have to pay close attention when I delete my saves from the hdd.And there's limited character saves too (ie: you can only make so many characters because the DLC saves count as seperate character saves) like you said. They need to fix that.

While I see your point, I just don't agree entirely. Maybe there's some sort of compromise, like you can buy cross-class talents, but at a a higher XP price. But I don't think it's very feasible or likely. I know that Rogues are supposedly going to be different in DA:2 as it was hinted in the recent Chat, so who knows what the future holds?

I think that being able to switch out party members more easily would remedy that as well.
