Hawke's really Duncan who was resurrected, and de-aged by Flemeth after Ostegar through some crazy ass Old School Blood magic ritual, and placed in the care of Bethany, and her family due to a debt they owed to her. At some point this will all be found out giving you the option to romance her. Also explains Hawke's freaking mage powers.

Dragon Age 2 will be free to owners of Dragon Age:Origins, but you will have to purchase Hawke as DLC.
