Ok, so I have a pretty good idea of the load that NwN 1 will put on a server when running X number of areas on it (after creating a rather large PW), but don't really have any ref. to NwN 2. I am working on "upgrading" my world to the better graphics, etc..

I'm going to be using an i7 system to host the game, but am working on it's design via an Intel dual-core, (which is working fine for now). What I really need to know, before I sink too much time into this, is what kind of h*ll  the server will be put through with about 300 areas, (none larger than 16x16), & about 2-8gb of external resources.

Any theories or knowns would be great.

Thanks,

Interiors are tile based, so whatever formulations you came up with in NWN1 should probably carry over for NWN2.

Regarding exteriors, my advice to you would be to benchmark to your own build style. If you intend to use lots of grass, trees, placeables, etc, then whip up an area that represents an average area for your PW and see what that does to your memory footprint (via task manager). Compare that to the memory limit per process for your operating system and you'll have a decent guide.

Just keep in mind that the game will still need to allocate memory for players and scripts and to function, so don't use up all available memory for your areas.

lol, thx for that last comment about area / mem usage...... funny.

No, I don't like to over-embellish areas with textures / placeables, but provide enough to give a realistic feel. I've always focused on content more than textures, mainly b/c (in my exp), most players will fore-go / forgive less texturing for LOADs more content & overall game experience.

Thanks for your prompt reply tho, & I'll def. be looking into that ASAP.
