After entering the arl's estate I took a break instead of leveling up my characters right after the auto-save occurred. When I came back I loaded the auto-save and my coup de grace was gone. I remember having it cause I got massive benefits against opponents I stunned with dirty fighting. I also remember planning this when I made the choice. In my level up there was only one point for talents so I took coup de grace again. Anybody else experienced this?

Did you swap or unequip any gear? As far as I can remember anything with "improves backstab" on it adds Coup de Grace.

I didn't know "improves backstabs" is the same as coup de grace so I took the talent early on. You are right I have it on one of my daggers but I never realized it's the same thing. But it doesn't change the fact that the choice should remain in the talent tree for my other weapons since I spent a point on it. I swap between the dagger and bow, do you also mean it could somehow mess up the talent tree? I quess you only meant I thought I had coup de grace because of the dagger. But yeah I didn't know about it so I did actually spend a point and remember considering it. Even if a piece of gear adds something it doesn't show up in the talent tree so you can add a point to it for when you don't have the gear on. Is there even items that add talents? I quess so if "improves backstabs" is coup de grace. Maybe "increases hostility" and "decreases hostility" could be threaten and disengage but they don't really work from the menu wheel. Anyway good to know about "improves backstabs", thanks

forgot to mention this happened on 360

Well it works like this:

If you dont have Coup de Grace and equip a item with "improved backstab" you will get the talent. But when you take the item off, or swap for another item (like weapons) you will also lose the talent.

However, if you actually spend a point on Coup de Grace, the talent should remain regardless of what items you have. Otherwise, I never seen it mess up the talent tree.

Increase hostility and decrease hostility don't add talents, they simply add or substract threat from your attacks, meaning enemies will be more inclined/declined to attack you instead of party members.

Anyway, Coup de Grace is a passive talent, meaning that it is always turned on. I dont know of any items which add active abilities (usable from the menu wheel).

I lost coup de grace again! I've spent a point on it twice now. This is how it happens:

I have a dagger with "improves backstabs" equipped. I switch to another weapon and coup de grace disappears from my talent tree. I tried using a different dagger but it doesn't bring the talent back, it reappears only with the "improves backstabs" dagger.

Try it out guys, this is crazy. You might have to save and load to make this happen.

And possibly 360 only

I would like to add that I too have exactly the problem described by luminary on an xbox360. Very dissapointed. Basic beta testing would have found this one. The bug does have something to do with improve backstab items not properly recognizing that you already payed for the skill. This is incredibly frustrating as I wasted like 3 talent points already and have exactly the same talents I started with. I also can't use coup de grace ever because it keeps going away. So much for my plan to dual wield dual stun with coup de grace. Stuff like this is why people pirate games. I wasted money on a product that is so bug riddled that it is clear the company making it didn't bother to beta-test it. If it was "free", then I wouldn't have lost anything by purchasing this terrible DLC. Now I am worried that this bug will occur in origins as well and I am not going to use improve backstab items. More lost functionality...YAY!

FIX IT OR LOSE YET ANOTHER PAYING CUSTOMER BECAUSE YOU CAN"T BE BOTHERED TO BETA TEST YOUR PRODUCTS. Major game-breaking bugs still in the game when it has been out for more than a year. Sad commentary of how much bioware cares about customer satisfcation.

I can confirm this bug on PC.

A workaround would be to not spend a talent in Coup de Grace, except you change your weapons and don't use this Orlesian Curse(-Putter) anymore.

While using it, it doesn't matter if the talent disappears when switching weapons–so long as the dagger is part of your melee weapon set. Le Coup only happens in melee fights.

(What I didn't try was to spend a talent on Feign Death–possible with the dagger equipped. As far as I understand the game mechanics, this following talent should remain even with the dagger unequipped.)
