Is it possible to add to the game different more types (fire, nature, spiritual etc) than the vanilla ones?

Yes. Basically you would edit the scripts that control what abilities do, or create your own (Under _Ability_Scripts). You would define a constant somewhere as a new type of damage, and then you would also define a constant somewhere as a resistance type (e.g. you could make something damage type 20). There's nothing to the damage types other than what resistances creatures happen to have to each type.
A word of warning, as suggested by my vague response, this would be quite complex to do and would require a fair deal of understanding of how the combat system in scripting works.

I was also worried about the GUI displaying it correctly...
I wanted to add a few more elements (corruption-taint, for example, instead of the abused spirit damage and different damages for melee, the good ol' classical blunt - blade)
