I've been trying to set up a multiplayer game of BG2 between a windows 7 machine and and xp machine.  I've been looking all over for help information and finally decided to just post and take a break.

Here's what I know:
-We both have BG2 SoA and ToB installed with the patches
-We are LANing it and not setting up a virtual lan
-Both computers, no matter who is hosting it can see one another so I don't see firewalls as an issue
-When XP is hosting, BG2 crashes on the Windows 7 machine as soon as we tell the game to start from the party screen
-When 7 hosts we seem to load 2 different games.  The XP machine loades where it should with the correct party but the 7 machine loades some random game I've never seen before with party members we never had.
-I've found this to happen with vista as well
-the XP machine is dual booting 7 and I've tried LANing 7 to 7, the dual boot 7 can't even start a new game or load one without crashing, it can join a game hosted by the other 7 machine but crashes after the start button is pressed too.

I've read plenty about firewalls on routers and about issues with TCP/IP stuff.  I'm not sure which is the issue in my case and I'm not sure how to implement either of those fixes.  If someone could point me in the right direction that would be great.  Feel free to ask for more information if I've missed something.  I really want to get this working because there are so very few co-op RPG's anymore and this is a classic.  I'd really like to avoid having to dual boot the other windows 7 machine with XP.

Both of you download Hamatchi, the person with Windows 7 has to host a new network in Hamatchi, while the XP user has to join that network. You should be assigned unique I.P's, the XP user should enter in the I.P of the Windows 7 user into the Host Address bar that comes up in Baldur's Gate multiplayer. Hopefully that'll work.

Thanks for the help. I just tried it out and the same thing happened to the Windows 7 machine. It loaded with a dialogue screen that says:

"Escaped Clone- Ah! Thou hast come once again to prey upon me, my 'Master'!!"

I'm not sure what it is, is it a previous save or some chapter of the game? We are trying to start up a new game so you know. The XP machine loads up the joined game just fine. It enters the game where all the characters are in cages and just before we can get torchered the game pauses for the Windows 7 dialogue screen. I may try to delete or temperarily remove all old saved games just to give it a shot. Any ideas?

Well removing all the saved games on the Windows 7 machine seemed to do the trick. The new game loaded up fine on both computers and we were able to play for a bit, then save, and reload it just fine. I'll be sure to post again if I find any more problems. I want to guess that it will give me problems if I have more then one save point and try to go back to an old one. Only time will tell but thanks a lot for your help and for even posting :) Best of luck to you.
