I'm going to just uhm... not even try to follow the last few pages of the thread...

So to Saibh's original question:

Human or Qunari either a mage or a warrior. Someone scruffy and bad*ss. An equal to Hawke who can hold his own in a fight.  A bit goofy and fun in private but a terrifying death machine in battle. Fiercly loyal to Hawke and his cause. The kind of companion who would try to stand up to an entire army to protect his friends.
I dunno if Qunari come in a scruffy variety (scruffiness is my weakness :innocent:) though... so if not he'd have to be human.

AKA: some big manly Miidnighter/Malcolm Reynolds hybrid

Who's most people? Not me obviously. I'm the guy who's a little annoyed at 'gay' love interest always turning out to be bi. Attraction isn't an on off switch.

That annoys me a bit too. I understand why they do it because there are only so many companions they can make so it saves time to combine male and female love interests into a bi-sexual character.
But as a girl, I also admit, kinda sheepishly, that I tended to dislike the fact that Zevran was bi... Not only because all his explanations about how he likes men but he prefers women were somewhat annoying, but also because it was almost feels like hetero girls have to share him with players who want male/male relationships and vice-versa... and I don't like sharing . Lol I don't know if I'm explaining this very well. I guess I'm saying that a bi-sexual LI seems less special than one who's strictly straight or gay. You know, the whole 'Zevran will sleep with anyone' thing.
It seems to me that it would be much more fun for there to be a completely different LI when you decide to do a playthrough as a gay/lesbian character... not the same LI you just had playing as a straight character.

Anyway... to chime in about the type of gay m/m I think I'd like to see potentially in DA2, it'd be a gruff but good-natured, good-hearted warrior who's loyal to the death (once you earn his trust and friendship, something that won't come easily) and is comfortable in his own skin. I'd also like him to seem a little sad and aloof at times because of some kind of tragedy in his past. It should be a challenge to get him to let his walls down and open his heart :).

I will admit I'm uncomfortable with homosexuality but it wont affect if I buy the game or not.

Fair enough. Like Bioware said earlier on the thread you'll get clear indicators of certain content, so avoiding those options should be easy enough for you.

Nice to see the thread on a positive heading. It seemed to be on something of a downward spiral when I last left it.

I reckon' the MANLY MAN THREAD BOOBS! topic drew them all in, the unpleasant people.

Do you think the FAQ mentioning of romances could mean more romance options available than usual? And therefore perhaps more bisexual or even entirely homosexual or lesbian love interests?

It's not time so much as trying to get the most bang for our buck (innuendo unintentional). I'd love to have a romance interest specifically homosexual, but that's unlikely to happen anytime soon simply because it's content already geared at a minority of players. But we'll see.

Until then, however, if one's opinion on the matter is "all or nothing" then I'm afraid the answer would ultimately be nothing.

Or how about turning people down gently won't hurt their loyalty?

That's incredibly hard to do IRL. In fact, I would say it's impossible. People will like you less for not liking them back. They can't help it.

Not all the time I have been shot down in nice ways and I get over it :?.

Of course you get over it. But, when the shooting down is occuring, you like them just a bit less? Or, rather, you don't like them as much?

well as long as the person isnt being an rude and just hating, it really doesnt matter i guess.

I loved this skit years ago even before I found out who Colbert and Carell were.

Aww. Well, thank you for speaking about it honestly, Mr. Gaider. And, besides, I was rather happy with Zevran. His sense of humor amused the crap out of me.

Probably because as soon as you get into college, your mind degrades to that of a sophisticated five year-old.

Personally, as long as we don't go back to the Jade Empire method of having to tell both female love interests (including one that is allegedly your childhood BFF) that you hate them and hope they die in fires in order to "unlock" the gay option, I'll be happy.

Just a thought, but why does the LI have to be bi? Why not just write one set of romance dialogue that can be used by the character no matter what sex the PC is?

Because that'd still be bisexual?

You mean one that never refers to your sex? Ever? One that doesn't acknowledge the difference between genders, as Leliana's does and Zevran's does?

In any case, that character is still bi.

That would still be bi, it would just now have the added bonus of being really generic and boring. ;)

No, that's not what I'm saying. As far as the NPC is concerned he/she is just romancing the PC. The nature of the romance is simply initiated by whatever sex the PC is. It's not as if you can romance that NPC with both male and female in one game.

That all comes down to the quality of the writing. They ain't writing an epic novel here, there's only a limited amount of dialogue to do.

Personally, I despise "oh, I'm only gay for you". What a cop out. It would be utterly pointless and retract from the writing to have the character never acknowledge their sex or mine. It's only odd when Alistair calls you a rose and you're not female. I absolutely adore that scene, and would hate to see it removed.

I understand, but it's a fairly simple romance story-arc, not one that would want to address any gay romance issues. Yeah, it could be seen as generic, but I don't think it's anything that a decent writer couldn't make satisfactorily emotive with ease, given the limited dialogue for each character.

Also, the character would never state they were 'only gay for you', as far as you're concerned they're gay for everybody. You just never get to see it.

*sniffles* you don't have to be gay to appreciate the sentiment of a rose *wipes tears with hanky*
