Dwarf along the lines of Gorim or Leske would be my preference. Zevran was nice but I'd like to see a Bi/Gay character who wasn't a straight up "Chick" so to speak

How exactly is Zevran a 'chick' again...?

He has longer hair and isn't super ridiculous buff, so that seems to imply that he's a girl to most people.

I know it makes no sense, but that's the best I've seen it be explained when the topic came up before.

He's basically Leliana when it comes to his interests as well. Gloves, Shoes, well in his case boots, his appearence,  the Warden.

Maybe he meant like... the "receiver". Or was it "catcher"? I keep getting mixed up on sports innuendos.

He likes the gloves because they were similar to the ones he had as a child that belonged to his mother. He liked the boots because of the smell of Antivan leather. He cares about his appearance for the same reason as Leliana, I guess. It's hard to seduce people (in order to murder them) when you look like a Broodmother.

Zev's a bit off-topic :?

and I guess nobody has thoughts about Gaider suggesting there's a possibility Hawke could have a kid...?

Zev seems to be the catcher if the male Warden is human or dwarf, but the pitcher when the warden is elf.

I'm all for some m/m love. Preferably with a taller, and more serious qunari. I had mixed feeling about Zevran, but I learned to love him for who he is. I'd just like someone more... masculine. Bioware makes awesome characters, so I'm sure whoever he is he'll be great. Assuming there is one of course. :P

Anyway. Back to my veteran soldier idea. Maybe not a soldier but a salty sailor, someone who'd always have a story to tell about this or that far off land and people. He'd be like Leliana  in his love of stories but not so carefree and without the rose tinted classes.

Okay, I'm going to explain my M/M romance as best I can w/o sounding too ... over the top or something that might get this locked.

I envision my Hawke as a man who was thrown into a situation he didn't want to be.  He joined what Lothering calls a militia (my own words here) so is just learning how to pretty much fight.  He's good with a 2 hander because magic is not his thing and jumping around like a rogue is just silly for him.  Since his sister is a mage, Hawke has a great distrust of Templars and is very protective of Bethany whenever any is around.

Notmally, Hawke's personality is quiet yet focused, speaking when he has to as well as being Neutral Good (meaning he does as best he can to do right things) which of couse can kind of make him seem naieve.

For this Hawke's LI as a male, I would see a soldier of Kirkwall that sees something in Hawke besides another refugee.  In the beginning, Hawke becomes the soldier's squire so to speak, and Hawke is taught how to fight better as well as the ways of Kirkwall.  Over time, the two men become closer in learning about each other's country history as well as personal.  Now at a certain point, Hawke would find that his soldier/mentor's strength both physically and mentally is attractive to him, and finds he spends quite alot of time with him as he adjusts in Kirkwall.

One thing I've come to understand both IRL and in books/games, is that love for another person isn't always ... sexual so to speak.  A son can love his father with the same strength as he loves his wife.  So my Hawke loving and protecting this Kirkwall soldier at such a level that he needs the man (whether it be a one night stand to "complete" him or a much longer relationship) is up to how Hawke and the soldier react and see the relationship together.

I hope this makes sense.  I would be MORE than happy to share ideas and the like with anyone in PMs or here.

Reading the profile of Finn, one of the new characters for Witch Hunt, it's very similar to a concept for a male LI that I suggested earlier in this thread (or an earlier iteration of it).

A broken character, something that Zevran was, would probably end up a cliché again.

I wonder if there is a not-so-evil bad boy character type that wasn't in an emotional breakdown.

From what I know of Bishop, there was absolutely nothing you could do to change his mind.  He slept with your character (if you went that route) and still gave your the short end of the stick afterwards.

I'm not saying that we should get such a bad boy and do everything in out power to change his views, but male or female characters I play, I could not and cannot stand a character in game that would string my PC along then dump them or up and leave at the end.  If there is to be a bad boy character for my male Hawke, make it so that even after the romance is done (one night stand or long term) they do NOT up and leave and remain just as loyal as before.

I personlly really liked Zev. He was a character I instantly liked and related to. That said, another Zevran would be a bit stale, so if there is a M/M romance (and I hope there is), I'd like the partner to be quite different. Possibly more, tough or "masculine" in demeanour, and more reserved, with a strong moral backing. A human or qunari/vashoth woud be interesting, as would a dwarf, but I'm hoping for a female qunari/vashoth in this game, and two qunari seems unlikely, so here's hoping for human or dwarf. A think a tough warrior dwarf who was gay or bisexual would be awesome.

I had my male Cousland work on Zev's story and romance.

I enjoyed Zev's backstory and learning about Antiva a great deal.  Hearing his past battles and missions was informative and fun.

I was not thrilled with his romance subplot though.  I am not sure if I can put my finger on it.  Maybe it is because:

SPOILER!!!!! (in case you didn't do this in DA:O)

He is the son of a **** and grew up around such women and culture.  I mean it says it straight out there when you ask him.  So IMO the "romance" was less of one and more of a sort of fun fling one does when they are stressed out.

/SPOILER

Give me a man with an interesting background as well as a romance subplot that makes it all worth while for me to spend the time to pursue it.

Did you continue the romance past the encounter in Denerim? After that encounter you see a side of Zev that is completely different (I dont want to spoil it in case you haven't gotten there yet). I think a lot of people who disliked Zev's romance (not saying you in particular Posted Image) just gave up before they peeled back his outer layer and realized how different of a person he is once his defences drop.

Just thought i would say this incase i offended anyone else
I have no problems with Male male romance in Dragon age as long as it is tasteful, not forced on players who do not want to see it(which i hope with the new dialagoue system will be easily avoidable), and remains optional the same applies to Hetero romances. and if you want to know what i consider to be distasteful the "love scenes" were just unnesscary and could have just faded to black.

From what many seem to say, the dialogue wheel will warn people of romances.  I really wish they did in DAO because it was so easy to screw up and stumble into Zev's romance lines when I was already with Alistair on my female warden, really screwing the pooch with Zev's favor (thank the Maker I save a TON)

I understand yours and many other's feelings on the love scenes.  Though I have yet to play a dwarf character (besudes origin story for achievement) the scenes I have seen, I only like Alistairs.  Zevran's gave me a holy &*$^ moment watching the scenes.  Even ME1 (Kaiden) and ME2 (Tali for me) were done a ton better.  I've watched other ME2 romance options, and theonly one that is kind of over the top is with Miranda but it was still IMO done tastefully.

You know ... a toggle option would be nice.  What do you think ... just one could toggle gore on and off, why not love scenes?

Even before than. Maybe it was just me but all the stories Zev told sounded like he was laughing at himself. (and not in a haha look how silly I am sort of way. in a this is the only way I can keep from cutting my wrists way) Especially his stories of looking for the Dalish and his upbringing. I felt really bad for him but didn't show it. It didn;t seem like he needed someone's lecturing.

I'll pass. Just like Zevran, a male L.I. for a male character is fine, but I'm not going to indulge in it. If I was gay, however, I'd probably want a manly man, not some tiny pipsqueak like Zevran.

In all honesty I stopped it after the romance.  I was disgusted really because of what ... I want to say the conversation happened afterwards.  It just felt too much of a "hit it and quit it" sort of thing, less of what Alistair's was.

I'm sure there isa great story to it but when my stomach gets into knots I stop.

Peel the onion more. He may have seemed like a one night stand kind of person, but after his personal quest, he will start to open up even more.

He even expresses the idea of exclusivity and devotion just for you character. The turning point is when he offers your character an earing. You may even choose to reject said earing, and he'll start realising that his feelings for you are much deeper than he thought it was; he will refuse to "share a tent" with you, and start to question the nature of the relationship, wanting more than just sleeping around.

I prefer Alistair over Zevran, but Zevran proposes. Sort of. :D
