In fact, I think this explanation is ridiculous. So Shepard is more pre-defined than a DA character. So what? Shepard can be male or female and has a great variety of love interests to choose from. I don't see how Shepards sexual orientation has any importance on the plot or character design and no reason why a gay Shepard should be forbidden.

Cerberus found the "gay gene", and thus systematically eradicated it from the male human populace with certain chemicals and hormones placed in the water supply many years before the events of the original Mass Effect. Females were left out due to the department heads not wanting lesbian pornography to go the way of the dinosaur, since men like unrealistically hot lesbians, and men still rule the human world... Also they got rid of all the genetic factors contributing to obesity.

Anyway, that's what I like to think happened.

There's a point to relevant, realistic criticism - you can hold a developer to higher standards, and we're not talking the 'deep and meaningful' here, simply decent treatment of the subject matter. That's as relevant to this thread as anything else.

The Asari are completely irrelivant to a thread about s/s relationships in Dragon Age 2. Sorry but that's not a matter of opinion that's a matter of what the Moderators have repeatedly stated while closing threads down for being off topic. When DA threads turn into pages of debate about Asari and ME threads turn into pages of debate about Zev and Lel, they get shut down.
(Do I agree? irrelivant. Mods keep doing it whether we agree or not)

Comparing Hawke and Shepard is one thing. Discussing creative standards, decent treatment of the subject matter etc is on topic when that subject matter is DA2.  Focusing on what the Asari represent or how they're viewed is something for the ME boards.

Apologies though, just trying to keep yet another s/s thread from getting shut down via lame excuses.

It's not off topic is it? As I stated here:

'Seriously, though, as I've just said, some of us feel the subject deserves far better treatment than the tired cliches (Liara, Zevran) we've seen so far. We're not asking for social commentary, just decent creative standards.'

If you want to disagree, do it openly, and don't use lame excuses yourself.

Yes let's not talk about the Asari. This is not Mass Effect nor do the asari have anything to do with gay male romances.

It's not about the Asari per se. It's about what we've seen so far from Bioware and how I'd like to see better in DA2. Simple as.

It isn't about the Asari specifically. It's about the treatment gay and lesbian relationship can be expected to get from developers. They have a track record of cheapening the experience by making the 'lesbian' and gay love options tired stereotypes and cliches meant for the sex fantasies of heterosexual men. And considering this is the same company I don't see how it isn't relevant.

Oh for... like I said. The Asari debate is off topic. Discussing creative standards is not.

(i'm not even going to touch the notion that I would try to avoid disagreeing with someone... that's just... mind boggling...)

Edit: ARGH! and now we're debating what to debate! AAAAAH -headexplodey-

Just like Shepherd, Hawke is a specific character that bioware are making, so there might be no gay romance at all, because Hawke, unlike the Grey Warden in Origins, is Biowares character, not your character. And he might not be gay, like Shepherd.

After all, Shepard's too predefined to be homosexual--disregard your power to make FemShep a lesbian, occasionally it actually being beyond your power not to be interested in women (hello there flirty smile with Shiala!). It's okay for commanding females to only be interested in other females, but it's not okay for commanding men to only be interested in other men.

I can't even describe my disgust with that particular explanation. I understand why they did it, but, still, how...ignoble.

Asari are asexual so fem shep cant be gay if theres no female also i agree bioware should put a male on male romance in DA2.

First of all, to a human, she's female. To a human, if you are straight, there's no reason to be attracted to an asari if you don't like girls. From everything we know, they look, sound, and even act like women. They are referred to as "she", all of the nouns associated with them are feminine. Kaidan will even start to say he didn't know you were a lesbian.

Regardless, there's still Kelly.

Er ... unless people get a different ending than me .. there ain't no Kelly.

wow... this thread has a really hard time staying on topic doesn' it?

Yeah especially since I put alot of thought into a LI for m/m and not one darn person replied on it.  Too much arguing and crap on non topic stuff.

Bah ... what's the use then?

Yeah lets keep it on topic guys. No more asair discussion, we know they're chicks.

I would so love a Qunari romance like I stated earlier, it would be like a cool culture shock character moment

Don't feel too bad about it, people were perhaps too distracted by the blue alien chick discussion. Besides, I think I did reply to one of your posts.

No, but the Chantry only recognizes heterosexual marriages.

You sure about that? Because at the end of Zevran's romance, you can get him to propose to a PC of either gender. Granted, at this point we're at the endgame so there's no way to actually implement it. But it seemed like a real offer.

I'm pretty sure the devs told us this was the case. Marriage, in that time, is seen as a way to legally give offspring--a duty of each man or woman--rights to inheritance. They don't acknowledge it otherwise.

Orlais is supposed to be, I dunno, very French about it.

Here.

I think Zev was sort of being poetic about it. Like a "Let's spend our life together". You don't propose with earrings, Zev.

What I'd like? Human warrior. Not that I have anything against elves, but I get so annoyed at all the 'it's not gay if it's an elf' nonsense. Personality wise I'd like someone with a snarky sense of humor. And someone who's noble, but not so lawful good that he'll disapprove of every morally grey decision I make.

It's a joke though.

Sounds good.

someone on this thread told me to try the "gay best friend" pick up line, and it actually worked. She was mad, when she found out I wasn't gay. Atleast I got her number

I want the ultimate bromance in DA2, like that gay couple in big daddy.

I would like for there to at least be a Male/Male Hawke romance option. I'll be greatly disappointed/upset if there's only a Female/Female Hawke romance option (other than Female/Male Hawke and Male/Female Hawke).
