IS there a way to set my mage tactics to automatically preform a combo?

1. Slot one is set to cast sleep anytime on an enemy,
2. Can I set slot 2 to cast horror right after a sleep cast?

You can do this, but it doesn't work all the time. Well at least in my case. Morrigan is my Nightmare champion, but it's even when I set Horror spell on sleeping enemies in the Tactics slot, she sometimes gets back to her freezing/lightning spells first before realising she has some sleeping enemies to take care of...

Thanks. I realise there is a way to put horror on sleeping enemies, but is there a way to actually tell it to cast horror after sleep. Or cast Drain Life after vulnerability etc.

You can ensure nightmare and improve the odds of getting improved drain with tactics such as:

1. Self --> health < 90% --> drain life

2. Enemy --> clustered with at least two allies (or whatever) --> sleep

3. Enemy --> status: sleeping --> horror

4. Enemy --> nearest visible --> vulnerability hex

5. Enemy --> nearest visible --> winter's grasp

Morrigan typically won't get attacked until she's done some damage, by which time she's probably cast her hex, so if that enemy is still alive, there's a good chance she'll drain it.

One last thing, what does the term "Charmed" refer to when it says it in tactics?

To get them ages to use tactics, move sleep and horror up as 1st and 2nd options in the tactics window, so they are the first choices the character considers before reverting to other activities.

If you are in PC get the advanced tactics mod. It makes setting up combos quite easy. Since it will add a new effect tab "Target is a sleep, Target is frozen, Target is etc"

When an enemy fights on your side. Spells like Blood Control will make the target become an ally for a period of time.

In general I would consider, healing, buffing, debuffing and single attacks good for automatic mage.

I have only one automated mage, Wynne and she is my healer. She mostly just heals, but sometimes she does debuffing and do single attacks. Example I cast cone of cold, Wynne will cast stonefist. What is combo spell. Haven't tryed, but next could also work.

x: Enemy: nearest visible: Petrify
x: Enemy: paralysed: Stonefist
(x: Enemy: paralysed: Crushing Prison)

Because I haven't tested, I'm not sure does the Crushing Prison cause problems with Force field. Remember Force Field + Crushing Prison is shockwave. As force field is also paralysed status.

Combo spells are the result of mixing two or more normal spells together... see the list.

Mages (more than any other class,) work best when you are in control.

ussnorway has it about right. I personally set party mages to some general stuff for their role, and then I take control of them for situations that require some finesse.
