Is there a method of permanently modifying an ability score, other than by a permanent supernatural effect? For example, if I wanted to script a "Manual of Bodily Health", applying an ability increase effect results in an effect icon showing up next to the character picture. In the character interface, the ability is hilighted in blue, as though it were effected by a magic item. I would just like the modified ability to be the new score with no special indicators.
Thanks.

You can give the relevant epic feat, epic constitution for instance.

If you don't worry about making a character illegal, try using SetBaseAbilityScore.

Yeah I thought about the Epic feats, but that only works for increasing the ability score. It would also look a little odd.
What happens if a character is made "illegal"?

I'm only going off of the function description here, but it's possible that the character *might* not be loadable via servers/other mods. Not sure the specifics, as the function is new(relatively speaking) and I haven't heard much about it. I've used it for companions with no problems, but not sure how it would behave with PCs.
Basically, it's an option for you, but consider it as a last resort.

The character will not be useable on MP servers that use the "Enforce Legal Characters" checked (or whatever the specific wording is for that).

I tried every means I could think of, including the epic feat to increase ability scores permanently and the only one that would work was using SetAbilityScore.
I experimented over and over with the feats and just couldn't get it to work. There is the option of making a permaent effect, this was done in the Moonshadows chap 1. If you do this, then any magic item will not stack with it, so it probably isn't what you are looking for.
Now that I think of it, I know that I was wondering if there was a way to access the GUI that allows you to increase you ability score when you level up every 4 levels. Clearly this does not make you character illegal.
Another option is just to bite the bullet and explain somewhere in the documentation what the consequences of the action that increases you ability are. Perhaps you could give several different options, if that fits with the plot.

I was just checking in the toolset and the comment said that *most* applications of the funciton will cause characters to fail enforcing legal characters. Perhaps there are instances where it will not cause failure. Sadly, I have no idea what those instances are. Perhaps perusing scripts from the OC or XP's could shed some light on the matter.

For the Feat Stat increase to work for chars below lvl 21 you need to alter the Feat.2da in the ReqEpic column to be a "0", then you can give the feat and it will work properly for non epic chars - I believe that unless you make it possible, the new Feat standard will remain only possible via GUI on epic levels and in script for lower levels. But I could be wrong. I did though use this method and I haven't come across any problems so far...

Turn off enforce legal characters, it marks almost any build as invalid given enough time ( though randomly ), and if you use any custom content like kaedrins you HAVE to turn it off. You don't need in single player, and a PW if they want to protect things will use a server vault. Best thing i ever did was get rid of it, have not had to fix a players file since then.

I think I'm going to implement this in the form of a permanently "cursed" item that the player can't get rid of without "divine intervention". Thanks.

I have used SetAbilityScore tons of times on our PW there are no problems with it. It WILL make a character illegal if you do a check for it, but generally if you are a server-vault server you shouldn't have that on as it gives a lot of false positives (or used to at least). An example of the false positive would be a sorcer changing their spells during level up would result in them being considered illegal.
