I don't understand why all these females are taking the whole big-breasted thing so seriously. You never see guys complain that all the male characters are macho muscular guys with magical, never messy hair... This is a video game... if you feel that females are misrepresented (in a video game... really?) than there are bigger things in your life to worry about.

2 things

1) I **** about it constantly. It's just that whenever I bring it up I get called a ****got and have realized my complaints fall on deaf ears.
2)For a lot of guys games seem to be about fulfilling some kind of fantasy and the avatar is part of that fantasy. Suddenly the player is some hulked out warrior of truth and justice with tons of DD's begging for his Sword of Might. I don't see that kind of behavior in women gamers but I don't know very many women who I'd call gamers.

Really? I've never heard that complaint anywhere. You do make an interesting point.
Personally, I've never had that fantasy. I don't envision myself as the character I play, so I have no problem with this; this is also why I have no problem with playing as female characters. However, this is just me.

Anyway, my point is that certain females take this whole thing way too seriously, and even begins to treat it as some sort of sexism. However, the underlying reason is so the graphic designers only need to really draw one set of body and reuse it over and over again. There is a practical reason underlying it.

And the reason all of these character models can't look more evenly proportion is--say it with me--fanservice. Yay!

Having a reasonable body type was done in Mass Effect and Dragon Age, the company's top-selling games. There's no reason that a body type that pleases all sides can't be achieved again.

Good job replying to a logical point without a logical rebuttal. If certain females are really taking the whole representation in video games seriously, then they need to step back and rethink. For the whole male/female equality thing, I've never seen a male complain about anything he is skimped out on and never see a female mention it. Now it has gotten to the point where anything and everything is seen as offensive to feminity.

Then he doesn't care. If he's not willing to mention anything, he doesn't care. Actually, judging by the wild success of games like Gears of War or movies like 300, men prefer for their heroes to be muscular, to appear powerful, and very masculine. Practically, a very fit man makes sense in these settings.

You know, there's just something so...not fun about your philosophy for games.

That's probably the best point, from a logical stand point, here. I mean, Bioware isn't exactly known for their myriad equipment designs. There's like 3 different armor sets, 3 swords, and two hats.... at least they're all cool, like Bethany's boobs. CURSE YOUR ROCKIN' ******, BETHANY!

I can't imagine getting a lot of good feedback on that kind of assumption. Unless you know a majority of gamers in the world. I would bet that some do, but they wouldn't enjoy getting called out on it. Sounds more like you are describing someone with self esteem issues so they attempt to make up for it.. But that's from more of a psychology stand point. =]

Breasts and a waist that size are not standard, not common, not usual, not regular, and generally not natural. There's no subjectivity to it. The word seems to have some pretty negative connotations for other people, so I promise I won't use it again, but I won't retract it, either.

I think we can all agree that whether the avatar is a male or a female, when they become too idealized, it begins to detract from the immersion into the story itself which is the only reason to play a game in the first place. If it doesn't help make the story more believable, they should avoid it if possible.

You didn't think Mass Effect or DAO, both games with fairly average-figured women, were fun? :D

Just reporting what I've noticed. I understand my entirely anecdotal experience can't be relied upon to describe the larger community of male gamers. But the guys I know I wouldn't describe as having self esteem issues (They're pretty self confident.) and that wish fulfillment seems to be big in what they look for in a game.

ummm the success of those movies doesnt come from the fact of the men being very masculine. maybe because of good story and great lines and scenes that remain etched into peoples minds. Leonidas yelling this is sparta and kicking the messenger into the pit has practically become legendary because of the fact it was such a powerful scene that people remember. Plus i dont think your in the position to say what men prefer. Something like that is generalized and should be avoided. Some men would be better as just saying men prefer. Its like sayign women prefer men with a sense of humor. Not completely true.

Woo, BW made the Asari and take every chance they get to sexualize them and expose their breasts as much as possible, even on a 600 year old warrior monk. Really, it's obvious the catering you guys do, but hey, thats you're fanbase. Seriously, don't try to deny it, it's just sad when you do.

Yeah, I'd just stray from using the word; when people don't see Normal rhetoric they make assumptions and flip out.

Well, Hawke is unnatural, considering he will "change the dragon age universe forever", so Bethany's boobage might also indicate that her cleavage will "change the dragon age universe forever"!

If generalizations weren't allowed, then BioWare could make no decisions regarding preferences. Why are the men, in a movie/game geared towards men, so ridiculously ripped and beefy? Because that's what would appeal to men's taste for a manly movie/game.

I can't account for every individual varying taste out there, but there is a reason why most men represented in video games and movies geared towards men tend to be absolutely muscular and masculine, why the trend continues.

Well I don't think most guys are drawn to the fact that they get to play as muscular guys. I think they are drawn to the massive amount of violence and bloodshed.

A game is a game, and while it has its realistic roots, it's not meant to be follow realism 100%. I still don't understand why anyone would care about representation in a video game that much. I don't exactly envision myself as an emo, flamboyant teenage boy out to save the world in JRPG's, yet I've never taken that as a representation of men as a whole. I fail to see how this is so offensive to women.
