Would you be ok with guy oriented eye-candy if there were more for women?

So I take it you didn't like Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 for the PS3? link

I've found that when a story does take itself seriously, it is almost always of high quality as well. I've also found that the opposite is true, that when a story does not take itself seriously, then it is typically garbage. In the anime world, I believe what you are asking for is called "fan service," in which the action and plot of a story is halted to make way for unnecessary eye-candy.
Now, I'm not saying that all terrible stories are such because of the use of gratuitous eye-candy, but all stories with gratuitous eye-candy just happen to be terrible.

I honestly don't see how there is a strict problem with that. Both images provide what is widely accepted as attractive. Women don't wear little dresses and high heels because they help her kick butt. And I'll be frank with you, high heels are way more attractive than combat boots. That was an extreme example and should be taken as hyperbole. Point is that maybe her complaint is what people see as attractive as opposed to games presenting what is attractive. I'll tell you one thing for certain: games will give you a woman that looks attractive and make her hero, whether it makes a lot of physical sense or not.
Additionally there is more than one bodytype that is perceived as attractive. When you watch the Olympics, I don't think anyone is complaining that the female athletes are physically unattractive on the whole. Yet you'd be hard-pressed to find one with Pam Anderson's proportions. Why can't DA use an attractive female body model who also looks like she's suited for more than holding a sammitch and frosty beer on the sidelines for the men?
It's nice of you to want to allow us women more eye candy, but that isn't what we want. Perhaps it boils down to the problem of attraction in the first place, with men being more visually focused. You can have your eye candy, you can keep Bethany just as she is. Just don't force it on the female PC's body model.
I already said Bioware is fantastic at creating men who are appealing to women. They don't need to turn up the eye candy factor.

Also fine with me. I don't need for the PC's female version to be strictly hawt-as-hell. But I'd like the option for her to be hawt-as-hell to exist. Some guys like playing females as well. I don't, personally, but some do.Anarya wrote...

What she's saying is that men like their avatars to be masculine and powerful, too. They like the women to look buxom and unrealistic. Women might like male avatars to be ripped, but they don't appreciate the Barbie look on their heroines.
I don't need for men to look ridiculously muscular in my game. It's an unfair trade-off, since I'd rather do without "my" eye-candy, and men generally enjoy looking their avatars looking masculine. I can do with more realistic bodies on both fronts.
Right. And isn't it fair that the avatars for men and women are something men prefer, whereas women get something they only slightly care about, and the other we really dislike?

That would pretty much be exactly the sort of thing I dislike from the looks of it. Essentially a pair of boobs that may or may not have a woman attached. Those types of games are portraying objects that pretend to be people. A woman who happens to have large breasts, or a man who happens to have a tight bottom is entirely different.

I, for example, am able to look at a really really good looking guy with his shirt off without becoming sexually aroused. I can admire how hot he is, enjoy looking at it, but it rarely goes to that "ooh mama, I need to take a shower" level that men SEEM (note the word) to be instantly taken to when they view beautiful women in sexy outfits and seductive poses. I don't know if other women have this same experience, but if so, it seems to be a fundamental difference between men and women, that in a way renders the OP's question nonsensical.
Clear as mud?

I guess my struggle with the OP's question is that I'm trying to think of a male equivalent to the "big boobs and hot ass" eye candy and I'm not thinking of anything. There's no (semi)-ubiquitous "hot things about a guy's bod" that really exists like boobs and butt do for men in Western culture. It also presumes that men and women process sexiness and what's hot in the same way, and that doesn't seem to be the case.

None, in particular. He should look fit enough to use his sword and wear armor, and that's pretty much it. As for clothing...I don't know, Alistair looked good in male noble clothes. Not that I'd put him in that for battle.

Well, and I think therein lies the issue. I don't really give a crap. I mean, as long as it's not grotesquely out of shape, I'm really not noticing whether the NPC I'm talking to has ripped abs or is showing some skin. It's not even hitting my radar.

That's pretty much what I was feeling. People bringing up Bethany and how oversexed someone like that appears and how horrible it would be to have the PC have that body, when Bethany is built pretty similarly to me personally, feels a little insulting.

I already addressed this in an earlier post but I don't think less of women with large breasts. If she has huge breasts on an otherwise stick-thin body ala Barbie, then no I don't think she looks much like a fighter. If the large breasts are attached to, say, a lady who looks like a female Qunari, I'm going to run away before she kicks my ass.
I am not belittling well-endowed ladies, I just don't think the far end of the spectrum should be the default body model.
Edit: and that goes for both ends of the spectrum. I don't think A cups should be the default either.

And your body type, many women have it naturally? It doesn't cause you back pain? You frequently lift swords and wear armor and traverse countries?
We've said it before, I am not affronted that Bethany's body type exists. But it should not be the default female model, as it is shaping up to be.

But last time I checked, not every woman has mountains on their chest. Even then, they tend to cause back trouble.
