Ho ha ha ha.. oh man that is a good one. But seriously anybody should be able to beat Mass Effect on the hardest difficulty if they take their time.

Why would anyone want to pause to shoot or set up shots like that?

To eliminate the player's aiming skill as a variable.

I'd much rather Shepard's aiming skill determine her accuracy.

It'd make the game way too long and way too easy. The second you have line of sight on an enemy, you'd get instant headshots and would probably never even get hit.

As the levels are currently designed, yes, probably.

I don't really see that as a problem.  I don't play BioWare's games for the combat.

Look at Adepts for example. If they were meant to use nothing but biotics, they wouldn't have access to pistols and SMG's. You are meant to shoot people.

My ME1 biotic hardly ever shot people.  She'd just Lift people and let her suadmates shoot them.

Pausing was put into the ME series so you could play the game like chess. Analyze the situation, set up what you're going to do, and then do it.

Hence the ability to pause between every single action.

If pausing to line up shots was like that, the game would be over 150 hours long.

Nothing wrong with that.

A. Exactly. Her skill at aiming. Which is aiming IN THE MIDDLE OF A HEATED BATTLE. Not pausing, setting up a shot, and then taking it. That would be based on the player's skill at moving a thumbstick/mouse. Which takes no skill at all unless you lack thumbs.
B. You might not play the games for combat, but others do. Not just combat, but story. Seeing as the issue here is with combat however, your comment is unnecessary.
C. Your point? The issue here is with ME2, not ME1. ME2 using a vastly different combat system.
D. In that case, why not pause between every single step you take in game? That should be REALLY fun. /sarcasm
E. If you want to spend an hour getting past 3 enemies just because you have to pause the game to line up every single shot you take, then go ahead. Everyone else will ruin the ending for you since they'll have beaten it a couple of weeks ahead of you. 150 hours spent playing a game would be fun if it were 150 hours of in game content, not 150 hours of pausing, taking a shot, and repeating.

I found ME2 to be more challenging, but the controls in ME2 are far superior compared to the Original. Course, I play Shooters a lot too so the controls are more in my comfort zone than ME1. It all makes sense on how things are mapped out on the controller.

I can see how ME2 would be difficult to someone who typically doesn't play Shooters, but even an RTS fan like yourself must know Strategy when coming up against foes with Shields and Armor. Out flank them.

The limited ammo is no big deal. You have to get over the run and gun style of ME1 without a worry or care. I think it heightens the drama. Play as a Soldier. That way you have access to all firearms.

Except that without the pause Shepard is a lousy shot if the player is a lousy shot, and that makes no sense within the game.  Shepard should never be a lousy shot.

ME1 established the setting's lore - Biotics (and Engineers) don't need firearms to be successful.

No sarcasm required.  You just described classic turn-based RPG gameplay.  Those were tons of fun.

I recommend Ultima III - it's a good introduction to the genre.

You don't have to pause.  If you don't pause the game then it won't take you 150 hours.

Why are you tryign to protect me from a feature I would enjoy?  Particularly when it would be optional.
